They only really need to paint Mystique's face now that she's accustomed to wearing clothes, I don't see her being as bothered by that, they don't even put facial prosthetics on her anymore so I could see her being okay with that.

Your right I forgot she actually has a costume now, I honestly rather she not be in the movie at all lol. Kinberg really has to pay attention to his competition though thats one reason why I wanted someone with new ideas or hoping he would change his team up a bit more so that we could get something different. There is no room for error, they need to come through with these costumes, they need to come through with the characterization o these characters, they need to come through and stop having these characters as background with nothing to add to the movie. Also stop rehashing the same minor plots, they have to do better for the majority to respond the right way and have both fans and non fans happy with the finished product.

I think the only way they can redeem Mystique being in this movie is if they explore the mother side of the character, it's something they've never done on the big screen and can actually put Jennifer's talents on display. If not then they should get rid of her because she's far too over exposed in these films.

I honestly dont see these talents but that would be an interesting twist and a nice supporting role for her and not take away from the other cast. Possibly expensive as well, renegotiating these characters after their contracts already expired is going to take away from some of the budget for this film. I just want the best movie made, no more foolish mistakes but actually show they care about the franchise and all the characters involved.

Magneto returning you can at least argue there's a dangling plot thread with the Quicksilver father/son thing. OK fine. Mystique doesn't have a reason to be there IMO. They chose not to connect her and Nightcrawler. They dropped her and Hank's whatever you want to call it. She was their team trainer at the end of Apocalypse. If this takes place roughly a decade later, They wont need her training anymore.

Just give Rebecca Romijn a call I think we'd happily welcome her back. :p
If they bring back that version of Mystique then yea but not the direction they have her going currently. I honestly dont even want the Brotherhood in another film tbh for awhile.

I don't see her talents either. She's vastly overrated (and many online blogs and lists also say this). She doesn't even pop up on lists of the hottest stars of the moment.

But the studio clearly wants her. They even developed that Red Sparrow spy movie to keep hold of her. Whether it's Kinberg who wants her back, or studio bosses, I'm not sure, but it's worth noting how some producers and execs attach themselves to certain actors (Jackman, Reynolds, Tatum are the obvious ones with this franchise).

The trouble is they'll have to renegotiate, she'll want more money (and possibly have certain conditions written into her contract on the blue make-up) and they'll have to justify the big paycheck with a prominent role in the story. You don't pay someone $20m for a cameo.

Also worth noting in that Cinemablend interview with Hutch Parker is mention of "some of the younger characters that we introduced last time" returning. Note the word some. That jives with certain rumours that were floating around. I just hope they leave doors open for a later return of the ones they don't include rather than kill them off like Emma Frost and Banshee.

The mention of Rogue is interesting. At this point they're beyond caring about continuity, lol...

They should rename it to Dark Raven and call it a day. :o

Seriously though, Magneto, Mystique and Quicksilver being treated as the good guys/anti superhero for how many films now? more than Angel, Psylocke and those other wasted ACTUAL X-Men... I really doubt any of the major people handling this is a fan of the X-Men comics.

Jeez, they didn't even confirm those two will be the main leads so relax. Jean was the main arc of Last Stand, which was mixed between 2 storylines so I don't think a movie about Phoenix will not center around her.

Like they weren't the leads of Apocalypse. It doesn't matter if they aren't leads, their presence would still be in the film. and I doubt they would be the silent henchmen and the unnamed mutant this time.:o

Also can't wait for Beast to do less than Mystique again....

Aka No Jubilee.... This is ********

Who knows if Jubilee became a vampire sometime in the late 80s. :o

This series is so shortsighted in terms of the actual X-Men. I'd give them a pass for one and done villains, but at least showcase mutants who were main staple of the X-Men. They already dropped the ball with Betsy, Warren, Lucas, Sean, Alexander, Remy and Emma. and nOw it looks like Jubilation is wasted again and her little role in Apocalypse is leading to nothing.

I think the interviewer is aware that its unlikely to follow the source material that closely.

But like all the X-Men movies they will do things abit differently, even DOFP had enough differences from the source material so i dunno why Dark Phoenix would follow any particular guideline.
He IS talking about the source material, not the movie:
because the character plays such an integral role in the tale.
So yeah, marvelrobbins was right to call him out on that. Frankly, I don't know what he smoked making that statement, either.

So overrated yes. I dont understand either when some of these studios go with the demands of an actor and set the movie back rather than focusing on making a good movie about the XMen. That "some" phrase did concern me a little bit as well, I honestly dont know what to expect with this movie. i know they like certain actors but to make room for them rather than focusing on the team in the title just really grinds my gears and its something I honestly dont understand. The ones introduced I feel only Jean and Scott are guaranteed for the next movie just going by that quote. If Mystique and Magneto both indeed come back and say Storm and Nightcrawler are out ill be absolutely done with the franchise, I couldnt support it anymore. Ive been upset about things but have always supported the movies and even stick up to them to many, but some things are just to much. Im still upset about Banshee because he was my fav out of that new cast. If they introduce Rogue at the end of the movie I think that will be good. My point is Fox needs to get their ducks in order and not have as many mishaps this time around they need to focus on the XMen rather than villains we see every movie flip flopping. Im just ready for some official news of whom is cast, people throwing hints around that they know and all i want to know is if my favs are coming back.

Well then give us something to discuss, that's all the news we got so of course people would elaborate on it. If you go back and read certain posts you'll see that I said it could all just be a rumor to get people talking and that I hope that is the case. The Last Stand was just a bastardized version of that storyline and it did nothing for the DP Saga so no she wasn't the main arc she was a zombie for the most of the film.

Don't these people do any research on the online reaction to the product they put out?

They should be able to see the astronomical difference in excitement for people like Reynolds and Jackman in their respective roles vs. JLaw out of makeup as a Mystique who also shapeshifts rarely if at all.

At this point they're forcing on the audience a character they don't want to see. And they're the ones who have to pay for their movie, lol. It goes against any principle of supply and demand and marketing.

I found that social network graphic you posted in that other thread to be illuminating -- people obviously excited for characters that end up being background roles.

These are just facts ^^^ I agree with it all. Its so sad what has become of this franchise pondering to certain actors or using them over and over because they like them in the role they need to expand out. Im just keeping my fingers crossed its just a rumor and nothing more. Do you know when will start getting official news.

I wonder which announcement the internet will react to more negatively... Kinberg as Director or J-Law as Lead Protagonist

As I said on another board, if they reintroduce the Hellfire Club as a manipulative factor for Jean in this film, Erik could serve as a subplot and re-introduction to the club's Inner Circle.

Erik was a member of the club and I believe he was a White and Grey King for a minute so there is a place for him in this film if they bring back the club.

Maybe Erik joins the Hellfire Club as a way to control the fate of mutantkind by joining the Inner Circle which is run by powerful and influential mutants.

Once he learns Jean is their next pawn and power play, he's conflicted but has to make a decision which side he's on ... and maybe he doesn't choose a side.

As for Mystique, I do like the idea of her being a glorified cameo used to bring Rogue (if she is being rebooted and introduced) to the school.

I really don't see them having Magneto do villainess again when you already have quicksilver to give him a purpose to be there.

As for mystique/Jlaw i still say the fans are more obsessed with her than what they believe the studio is because you can make out everything they do is to kiss jlaws ass but truth be told if the character is already in the script and they don't know if she will be back... well that says alot about character vs actress.

I remember before apocalypse come out there was that false leak on reddit of what happens in apocalypse, presumably written by a fan that studied the trailers like crazy, it wasn't too fanservice and it had mystique involved in tricking apocalypse at the end and in so taking him down

Now whats interesting about that is the fans mind set over the creative team mind set, yes a fan assumes they there is no doubt she would be the hero while the creative team took her out of play in the final take down of apocalypse.

Seems a logical possibility if Young Rogue is in the movie.

Just give Rebecca Romijn a call I think we'd happily welcome her back. :p

She wouldn't even be playing the OT mystique anymore, she would be more her character from the librarians show.

If this indeed comes to past, my hope is that returning characters established in First Class are used sparingly. After all, what's the point of introducing a new, younger team of X-Men if there's the potential for them to be sidelined by the other players? Not that this will happen, but with nothing else to go off- or even who may be returning- just speculating.

In one of the leaked audition tapes they mentioned Grey was coming (they use codenames as to not reveal details) but it'd make sense if Magneto was the Grey King and they were referring to him. I have always wanted to see Selene on-screen but I dunno if she could fit in this movie and if it came down to the choice I'd prefer Lilandra and full on Queen of the Damned garb. :p

Never mind 'hero', for her to lead the team and be barking orders was quite enough.

It would be strange if she just stopped leading the team and barking orders in the next film, so there's genuine frustration/worry that this is what will happen in Dark Phoenix.

Unless they've written some surprising new arc into the film for Mystique, I can't see her character just standing in the background or wheeling Charles around the grounds, can you?

This then means that Cyclops is unlikely to be leader. We don't know of course, but if Raven/Mystique leads, then Scott won't be leading...

I'm hoping that if J-Law is back, Raven has only a small role in the story. But somehow I doubt it. The Hollywood Reporter's piece on the franchise said "the script is being written with Lawrence, Fassbender and McAvoy optimistically in mind."

I really can't see how the franchise is being reconfigured to be honest. Singer not directing hardly amounts to that if everything else is the same. It'll be interested to see how 'reconfigured' it feels when it's on the big screen.

JLaw is not getting paid 20 million for a glorified cameo.
