Xbox One Games: The Real Meat Around The Bone

I honestly think the d-pad is a waste. I can't remember the last time I used one for its intended purpose.

I am surprised we still have them, quite frankly. Be interesting if it was replaced with four more buttons.

EA Sports UFC going to the Vault next week. Was pretty close to re-buying it a few times so glad I held out. Excited to get back into it with Lesnar being added in recently.

That Vault thing would be a great deal if I cared about any of the games in it.

I generally don't enjoy games that are open, I prefer more linear titles, but I don't know, DR is just so fun to mess around with.
The best open world games are great but otherwise I also prefer somewhat linear. Whenever I see any gaming debate it's almost as if you are morally supposed to prefer open world.

Yeah, it's like I get the appeal of open world, but it almost never really touches me in the same way it seems to a majority of people. I tend to get bored with open world games incredibly fast.

I feel like I use d-pads a lot.

It does seem that the word "linear" in games is taboo. Like God forbid your game isn't a sandbox. I don't have a preference. I just want the developer to deliver the best game they can in the style they want. Some of my favorite games are in the linear and open world category

I posted this in the Sunset Overdrive thread, but I think more people will see it here:

Wal-Mart has this one sale for $34.99 online. It seems to be on sale in store, too. Some people are seeing $35, while others (like myself) are seeing $40.

It's identified as the Day One edition as well.

In some people's minds, if you don't do open world, you're not getting the most out of the hardware.

I can see that point. Idk, as I said before, just make the best game you can, sandbox or not.

All of the Telltale games on are sale for Gold members on Xbox One for $55 (making it roughly $11 for each full season). This includes the Borderlands and Game of Thrones full season passes. Not sure if this is available elsewhere, so I'm posting it here. I've read that some people managed to get The Walking Dead Season 1 & 2 bundles refunded and put towards this, so I'm going to see if I can do that.

some people like it linear, some like it open. I'm fine with both, just depends on the game. Although open world often is better since it gives you the most option.

Yep I have no preference. Just make it as good as you can and don't box yourself in. Choosing open world when it isn't 100% natural for the game you're trying to make is a limitation. I love being able to explore a beautiful open world between game objectives but for certain linear games they can make them that much better when they cut off some of the scope. I don't think you need to visit the next city when you're playing a high tech shooter where the precise combat and controls are a much bigger part of the attraction of the game.

I'm hoping WWE 2K15 goes on sale on Live sometime during this sale. I'll probably only play through the Triple H v Shawn Michaels showcase and spend the majority of the game just playing exhibition matches with my favorite superstars. I'd pay $45 for that but it would be nice if it got a 50% reduction.

Been a long time since I played a WWE game. I really want to see how good they look nowadays.

Yea iv played 2 of the WWF games in the last 10 plus years, the 2012 version and this most recent version. I like it, save for the fact I don't know 80% of the roster, but its got the Rock and he's like the only reason id buy a wwf game. I wish he had a one of those showcase modes because the John Cena v CM Punk Showcase was pretty neat.

I stopped caring about wrestling after the Attitude Era. WWE 2k13 would've been perfect for me; too bad that storyline was used last gen.

Same. Thats been my biggest gripe with this game. Theres very few of those dudes in the game. They don't even have a classic Kane attire.

I'm basically just gonna use Stone Cold, Rock and Shawn Michaels and Stun, Rock Bottom and Sweet Chin Music my way through the rest of the roster.

What's changed on wrestling games in terms of mechanics? I always enjoyed them, but they were just too low down the prioirity list to actually play properly. I even own about 3 or 4 on the 360.

I have the newest game, but haven't played it much. From the little I've seen the mechanics are much more simulation based (ala sports games like NBA2K and Madden), than a arcade style like previous games.

It serverely lacks in other areas, though.

Simulation? So I guess you have to be better at the game than just use the same tactics over and over ;)

What areas does it lack in?

Primarily in match types, but the non-dlc roster is nothing to smile at either.

The creation modes are severely stripped down too from last years. Though, they make up for that with the new textures feature.
