Ant-Man Yellowjacket

these special effects are pretty damn sick. i think the visuals in this film are going to be some of the best MCU has done.

It's great to see this much of an out purring of support for a design that takes such huge liberties from the comics. I remember when the concept art first leaked and everyone was like "He's ripping off Doc Ock" :whatever:

I like the Yellowjacket suit in the comics, but this looks way more villainous.

I just don't know why they had to make Yellowjacket completely CGI in both of those shots. In one of them he's just standing there, and in the other he's throwing a punch. I hope there's at least an actual, practical YJ suit in the movie as some points that isn't CGI.

I can understand the need to make the articulating arms on his back CGI from time to time just as any moving part on the Iron Man armor will require it to be CGI. But who says the rest of him in those shots is CGI? I can't tell. And frankly, if one can't tell then who cares anyway?

I can't tell either. And like you said, if you can't tell, why does it matter?

I think the antenna ear pieces used on the Yellowjacket suit from the comics would have made the suit look much cooler & more buggish looking.

While this will be a case of in name only for me, gotta hand it to them, this design is badass.

It doesn't look like armor so much as a type of fabric mesh kinda like the Daredevil final costume.

I wonder if he actually survives this movie that he might return later in his more comics accurate Crossfire identity. That'd be cool to see.

^Well then by definition you'd be able to tell so the point would be moot anyway. And I don't mean able to tell in the sense that because someone works in SFX they have an expert eye for this kinda thing and that's how they can tell. Fooling the casual viewer such as myself is all I ask them to do. Beyond that, I don't care.

Well, I'm not an SFX expert but I can tell that he's entirely CGI in both of those shots, so the point isn't moot to me.

It's not that I'm anti-CGI, but it does bother me when a character is rendered in complete CGI at points that seem unnecessary, like when they are standing still and not performing action. There were moments like that in a few of the Spider-man and Iron Man movies.

I'm a sucker for the artistry of practical costuming, I guess.

^I'm not sure. Not an Ant-man expert.

Edit: Just looked it up and yes you are right. Well then, there you go for who could be an antagonist in the sequel with motivation already easily laid out...revenge. But I'd say do it more along the lines of Peter Gruber in Die Hard 3. He's got his own agenda on the side but can incorporate revenge on Lang as a bonus.

I'd say half the time in the original Spidey trilogy I could tell he was CGI, easily. Lighting on him simply moved wrong. Never caught it with Iron Man and I don't see it here. I also didn't see it as much with the 2nd Spidey series.

Now I can deduce that where his helmet closes by itself that's gotta be CGI. Just like when Spidey is swinging hundreds of stories or pieces of Iron Man's armor are movie independently then I just know CGI is how they did it. But that doesn't take anything away for me. As long as it doesn't call attention to itself I don't care whether something is practical or CGI. The end result is all that matters.

Crossfire is his cousin.

Darren Cross in the comics is like a pink Hulk.

It better be a awesome fight, Im already loving that Thomas the tank engine fight lol

Everything about Cross is giving me Obadiah Stane vibes. Even to the point of him being bald. Heck this movie is giving me flashbacks to the first IM movie in general. This, is not a bad thing.
