Your ideas on how Lex and Lois could not know CK's other identity when he finally...

WTF! What a dumbass indeed. What a major cop-out! Gough's answer is a major disrespect to the people who have watched Smallville all these years. With answer like that, Smallville should be cancelled. :cmad: A letter should be sent to CW and Gough for this dismal and uncreative response.

...At least KBX had a logical explanation for Superman's identity.

My thoughts exactly. Alfred Gough has no business being in the business whatsoever especially if he has the guts to make a statement like that. He's basically wasted six years plus of our lives on teen drama and taken away the point most of comics fans have been watching.

Apparently, teen drama is fine and filling in some of the blanks works but for him forget the rest of the work. Let's jump ahead a few years and not even clear up things and our problem is solved.

Sheesh, I'm truly ashamed at the WB and DC now for letting someone like this stay on as an Executive Producer and I'm a fan as much as everyone else here.

Still what a total slap in the face to the Superman and comics fans.

Is he saying that he doesn't give a damn about the SV universe he contributed to "create" and he doesn't care about the crucial unanswered questions he leaves behind, once the show is over and the money stops pouring in?

He could have given many answers to that question and I think he chose the worst one. IMO.

Yes indeed, that's the statement he's giving. He doesn't give a damn about the series at all.

Honestly over the last six years, this man has lied through his teeth more times than he can count and he's kept the show going at the studio request. It's all about the paycheck for him.

I'm sorry but as an Executive Producer who hasn't written a single episode for almost three years, that's the worst thing to say and it's proof of exactly how much consideration he's putting into the show. Especially if you're in front of an audience of fans.

It's not about the worst choices of wording here. He said what he said and that's showing how he feels about this series, which falls back upon the constant contradictions and changes in statements that he makes constantly.

Pretty much..

He'll get his paycheck from the Supergirl spinoff then; tis all he cares about.

Yep, statement says it all.

I'm finished babbling.

Looks like I'm picking and choosing and writing my own fan fiction ending for the series, when the day comes.

But seriously though, I go into this show knowing this and accepted it ages ago. We as viewers make the decision to watch it; and we're obviously going to continue to watch it for the sake of some closure after this long.

Its only a disappointment if you expected the show to be more than what it actually is.

I wouldn't put too much faith on that statement, they always say contradictory things. And it's all part of getting people to watch the show. It's a bit of marketing. If they gave everything the people wanted or said yes to everything there wouldn't be surprises left.
Yes, they probably won't explain how he doesn't get recognized with glasses but that's because the show was always supposed to end before he works at the Planet.
If you want to know these and more then write to Warner Bros and/or Gough/Millar and ask them to follow up the story in a movie be it theatrical/direct to dvd or tv movie. Then they can explain the rest.
As for showing his costumed years, that's correct they won't. But I bet they will show Tom in the suit in the last scene. Gough said it himself the show ends with Lex completly evil and Clark becoming Superman. And I'll go by those words not these who were more than likely a joke.

Theres also this though;

From movievee.com:

Have you ever thought about Tom Welling donning the costume -- just to get an idea of "what if"?

Gough: No, it's actually in his contract that he won't wear the costume. (Laughter) I'm not sure what he does at home, but on the show, he's not wearing the costume. And again, not to conflict with the movies, [Warners Feature Film Division] doesn't want him in the costume, and we don't want him in the costume. [Smallville is] a different show altogether."

and from an appearance in Sept 06;

"Gough said Tom Welling will not be putting on the Superman suit, again because of the feature-film franchise.
"It would be the end of the show because that would be when Smallville would end and Superman would begin," Gough said "It's always been Clark Kent becoming the hero we all know him to become. It was never our intention to put him in the suit, as we always said, unless it was the last moment of the last episode of the series. Now, with the feature film out, we're steering clear of it."

Ever since the film franchaise launched, Gough has gone on the record saying no Superman. They originally planned to show Superman in the last moment of the last episode according to that; but now they've decided to 'steer clear of it' due to the film.

I'm thinking theres a restriction or deal in place with the film division. That would explain this his recent "we will never see him in the suit" statement.

I guess what they cant do with Tom they will do with Laura in the inevitable Spin Off. She will already have flight & in the Spin Off they will give her the tights

Well if you want to get technical about it we might never see Clark in a suit, which might be fine if they end something like this....

Cain's role on the show: evil doctor who sidelines as a hero, wearing a costume much like the above but with a different emblem (\G/?)... Clark befriends him... Doctor is eventually killed by Luthor while saving Clark from same... When Clark adopts a uniform, he goes with those colors in his memory but personalizes it with the \S/.

Then we get to see DC do an \S/ rip like the above on the show THIS season. That would be sweet <SIGH>.

Back to the point of the thread.

How about Clark befriending someone with Shapeshifting abilities (Like Martian Manhunter perhaps?) To have 'Clark' and 'Superman' in the same room at the same time with Lois and Lex. Allowing them both to believe he's someone who just happens to look an awful lot like Clark.

Or what about that kid from 'Blank'? He seemed to be kinda friendly with Clark at the end. Maybe he could wipe certain things from the minds of Lex and Lois.

Yah, but I kinda dislike the memory wipe idea. Makes it seem like everything was for nothing.

Either/both would at least cast a shadow of a doubt on things. I like the MM idea better - then Lex & Clark and Lois & Clark would still have a history to build on; Lex would still be suspicious of Clark but - again! - thrown off the scent for a while...

I rather like the MM idea, personally. Hell, he can augment most of Supes powers. If they made a play to make Clark look bumbling, while 'Superman' did something heroic, and Clark was there with Lois and Lex, it might be enough to push both of them away from his secret. Especially with what happened in Nemesis with Lex and Clark.

A guy that looks like an exact clone of the Clark Kent they knew in Smallville (without the glasses) but with powers and an alien origin. I doubt even seeing them together will throw Lois and Lex's suspicions off about who Clark is.

Mindwipe is the only thing that works; but it undoes all the development the characters went through.

I'm going with the story that if he goes to his "training"

And then when he returns he wears glasses, maybe look slightly older, is bumbling, his hair is different etc

When compared to Superman who would have a preasence about him, speak firmly, have different hair again...it could work

Everyones went to High School with someone then 5 years later see them again and hardly recognise them so its not out of the realm of possability in my view
