5.17 - Void (Spoilers) Discussion Thread

LOL @ those of you who consult the DC encyclopedia during episodes of Smallville to determine if something is OK. That's one thing I've always hated about hardcore DC comics fans, they can never just enjoy something, they always have to consult some kind of manual or rulebook to see if it's ok for them to like something. things must always be "classified" and analyzed to be made sense of like your an entomologist in the rainforest sorting through species samples......I've officially given up on this forum....

Hey I already said I enjoyed and laughed at the episode for what it was. It entertained me in that sense and Im not gonna expect the show to be anything more than that anymore...

Im tired to repeating that.

Hulk is a man of his word, if he says he won't be back he won't...

He's a busy guy. He's barely been posting here anyway lately. :(

I thought the episode was very bad. There were more holes in the story than in swiss cheese:

First of all, all of a sudden Lana is a junkie? This was completely forced. I can understand her wanting to go to her parents, but the show started like she had being doing it a few times beforehand.

Whether she was a junkie or not, it seemd very uncharacterisic of Lana to try to steal from Lex. Even after Lex says that all she has to do is ask for money, she steals his Porsche? Please.

There is a crapload of press when Martha was speaking, yet no one catches that Lionel was there and openly being friendly with Senator Kent? They all just walk past him.

I found it funny too that Lance went from supplier to crazy homicidal killer.

I questioned the Metropolis to Honduras thing, but I didn't think it was impossible for Clark, it just raised an eyebrow. What really had me thinking BS was that he knew EXACTLY where to go.

The best parts were obviously Jonathan coming back, and Lex's journey to the dark side, but it wasn't enough to save this episode from mediocrity. Most of the episode seemed like lazy writing IMO.

Odd. I didn't think of Lana's comments as an intentional slam. If anything, I thought the writers were trying to parallel Lana's feelings of being alone - even when she was with Clark - with Clark's feelings of being an outsider. In every sense of the word, Clark is an alien. Earth is his adopted home. He has to engage his brain every time he shakes somebody's hand, never mind doing the horizontal jig. Lana has No. Freakin'. Idea. what Clark goes through on a daily basis, nor does she know the magnitude of the personal sacrifice he's made for her safety and eventual happiness. That's the truly sad part. I don't feel sorry for her at all; she'll be able to move on. Clark, on the other hand, will always be an alien. And that demon will remain with him forever, LONG after Lana is dead and buried - and everybody who ever knew her - except Clark.

My issue? When will Clark reach the point where he'll see being an alien as a blessing and something to be proud of? He already feels different and like an outsider, plus everytime he encounters something from his Krypton in some form it doesn't have a positive outcome.

I hope that gets turned around soon. Being proud of being an alien and appreciating his heritage is part of Clark's path to being Superman after all. Unless you're a John Byrne fan.

What can be said about this episode, other then it was the worse thing i have seen from this series. The final run of this season is going down fast.

Also i loved the run, but the problem is that Clark can do that one second, and can't get down the street faster then he ran half way around the world.

Nobody cared the first time around..

Hulk was just explaining in a very "mild manner" way how you and your
clones are idiots he does not need to waste his time with..

Tonytr16 on the other hand called your lot heartless bastards, which I think is more accurate..

^What a joke. So his opinion is not valid here because he's not part of the herd you're a part of?

He said he enjoys the show for what it is, a watered down version of the character that the producers have taken a lot of liberties with. Some might like the changes, some don't. No need to call him an idiot or myself one for that matter.

What amuses me is that people can choose to look past a guy wearing a business suit one second and the next second he is wearing a costume with a cape and his previous attire doesnt appear to be stored in any pockets on his person anywhere....

but same guy runs from a town in North America to South America in a matter of seconds and all basis for suspension of belief and fantasy are thrown away.

Woah Woah Woah... Not true. The modern Superman cant move that fast. The classic precrisis god-like Superman could...but it was retconned obviously for being too ridiculously fast.

Theyve been pretty inconsistant with his speed but yea, where did they say he can move at close to the speed of light?

Flash is the one that can run near lightspeed (at his very very fastest) according to the DC comics enyclopedia.

Clark to Jonathan in the episode Perry "my lightspeed gave out over Lake Tahoe"

Did you know in the pre-crisis days, Superman used to have small compartment on his belt where he put his Clark Kent attire after he compressed it down with his strength? :)

Just some knowledge.

But since Smallville isn't established pre-crisis or post-crisis, neither of those apply. Then you have to factor in that Clark's powers increase every year, as his body continues to store more yellow solar energy. In Kingdom Come, he was so powerful that kryptonite could hardly affect him after years and years of yellow sun exposure.

Last time I checked Superman can move close to the speed of light. Flash can move at the speed of light and beyond because of him tapping into the Speed Force.

LOL! :D

I didnt know that.

This wasnt my favorite episode but thats MOI.

What I find weird is that ppl think that there are "set rules" with the Superman universe when there are adaptions and different takes on the character since the 30s.

Aren't the ppl who created SV comic book writers themselves???

...Yes, were 'idiots' for not taking seriously of the most ridiculous hours of TV out there; ghosts from beyond, flatlining, crossing over with jon edwards, lana the junkie, etc

Seriously, you're in no position to be flaming.

Ya I know that. In the Mxy episode, time literally froze around him as he went from one far location to another. Im just saying I thought it was too much. It was just a minor 'observation' though, it wasnt even a complaint.

The main problems with this episode had to do with the ridiculous story itself.

don't mind me....as you were.

How can you water down something that was never fully expounded to begin with? If anything, SV is defining the early years of this character for a new generation, not diluting him. But that's JMHO.

As to name-calling on I-Net message boards.... LOL!

Welcome to The Hype; what goes around, comes around. ;)
