 I said this 2 days ago! In the words of the great Stephen Colbert "She gets it". Yeah I mentioned this in a thread somewhere (not even in this forum I think) that basically because the show has been extended, the writers need to fill in the timeline. So with that said they add these other elements. In the end its fine because the show will end in a way that resolves it well and ties remotley close to how the Superman mythology. But in the middle why not have fun with it

Musta missed that post, Luda... sawwy... :(

But it's still true no matter who says it? Right?

It's the journey we're enjoying here even though the destination will be awesome too... ;) :D  :supes:

Everyone needs to sit back and enjoy the scenery, the ride will seem to be too short once it's finally over.

Yeah, I did.... going nuts here...

I'm exhausted and yet trying to NOT sleep (this morning shift may kill me yet) whle trying to work on my review and I have to fit in cooking dinner now too....

And here, when I saw you respond to my post I thought you'd sing it's praises or something... LOL!

I'm just punchy... never mind me and don't take it personally if I don't reply. I'm not tracking too well right now...

LOL! I wasnt looking for praise I just wanted to make sure you saw it. :)

I think ppl pay too much attention to the writing for the individual plots of each episode than the writing for the overarching plots which really make this show what it is. Some of you dont realize it, but the stuff you call "filler" are really just there to support and propel the overarching story of each season. As long as the major stuff is written well (which it almost always is), we shouldn't be complaining.

You have to have filler in shows or else it finishes sooner than schedule. Since they work on a timeline and episode supply ordered by the execs their will be filler. As long as its somewhat enjoyable its ok (that's why I dont worry about stuff like Spell and Thrist)

You have to judge an episode for the episode plot itself. Sure its a piece in the puzzle of the entire season; but you cant judge that season on a whole till the puzzle is complete.

Having fun is great. Telling inconsistent or poor stories isn't. There's nothing wrong with having fun, but the quality of the episodes need to be the same across the board.

But you cant have that kind of consistency when you realistically consider what the show is about and the network, as I said before they dont have ther pressure of a show on abc/cbs/nbc they can relax a bit. Only fans on the internet (and lets face it there hardocre about anything) say that. They can relax a little with it. In the fillers there having fun, you want them to be consistent with laid back fun comedic episodes the samw way with drama? Not every writer is built like that

You can have that kind of consistency if you raise your standards to do so.

So I guess having fun means writing throwaway episodes?

In any shows there gonna be episodes that are viewed as "throwaway" episodes because for just episode or two they steer away from the main storyline of the season or bring to the forefront a subplot that's not main plot or even connected to it most times. All shows tend to do this but as long as it doesnt effect the overall product it's fine and it hasnt effected Smallvile. The writers only fault is that they sometimes try to come up with episodes that are almost "Whedon-esque" (see Spell, Thirst, ie occassional episodes with a fun connecting theme. Joss was great at this, the SV guys arent even though I was hoping since season 1 they would have fun with it as the mythology progressed. Its not a big deal at least they tried) but as I said there really isnt any pressure for them to do that and because they feel the light stories are their bread and butter since season 1 they just roll with it.

Umm, those would be episodes that affect the overall product, particularly the former, where not only didn't add anything to main plot but it featured one of the biggest glitches in the show.

Maybe they need to try "I Can't Believe it's not Butter".

But even with that they were trying something different. It didnt work in the end, I'm not sure what there intention was with it but like I said the writers do not take this show with as much seriousness that maybe they should or writers of say 24 and Lost (whole different region). Smallville will never be that serious comic book/well written drama that people hope it will.

Maybe you need to step your Joke game :o :)

I'm not saying it should be purely serious. I love comedy. But it has to be well written. That's the difference between 40 Year old Virgin and Soul Plane.

But I guess that'll never happen like you said.

Nah dawg that was just a filler joke. I'm saving the serious ones for the finale.:O

But again to flip it SV isnt that bad with what it's writing. Everything has a justification more or less and I'm not one to tiredless defend them on everything either cause I have called them on a couple of things but I take stock in assume they know what there doing and when it ends it will all make sense.

Why do I get the feeling that if you were to get into a trash talk with the even the Smallville writers they would make you cry? lol

It's not that bad but it could be better. That's all I'm saying. Enormous potential is there, unfortunately I find that it's not capitalized on. Perfect example from this season is Fanatic following up Lexmas.

I'd cry from seeing poor writers getting jobs. I'd make them cry for attempting to argue with me.

It's the balance and the fact that I think they try to fit in certain storylines that each of the indiviuals that dreates percieved inconsistency

That soundest like the gayest emo steel cage match ever. That or New Edition getting back together without Bobby. Just people crying all over the place, softer than ice cream in the summer.

Hey, I cry internally whenever I look at the current state of rap.

Eminem's group D-12. Proof was Em's best pal, he was in 8 Mile and everytime you see him in concert he was his hypeman. Crazy thing Eminem just made a video like a year and a half ago talking about peace in Hip Hop and no violence and it showed Proof getting shot. That is so ****ing spooky that the exact thing happened well just a few hours ago (4:30 AM)
