Again, the Prestige will not be in the running. 76 % on Rotten Tomatoes displays that. Especially since most of the critics featured on RT are on the academy. Is it enough for a good movie? Yes. Not an oscar calibre movie. It is a fanboy loved movie, not an Oscar contender.

I agree, I think that the people who loved it will be disappointed if they think that it's going to be nominated for best picture.

As for DeCaprio's accent change, it was intentional, he was a double agent. His accent changes based on who he is with.
Yeah, I thought that was made incredibly apparent when Dignam was having his little chat with Costigan in the beginning of the movie.

Yah it did score a 76% which isnt very high but crash won best picture last year and it has a 75% review rating. I'm sure if crash can do it with a 75 then The Prestige could at least be nominated with a 76%.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1144992-crash/

they both have an average score of a 7.1 so i think its fair game that The Prestige could be nominated.

Look at Crash. It had around 75-76% and got Best Movie award.

I hope this time Scorsese will get his award. He has been waiting for it since 70s.

I'd say Affleck will definitely win Best Supporting.

Apples and oranges. Crash was a movie that dealt with racism. It was made to be oscar bait. Prestige was a movie that dealt with magicians. It is fanboy bait. Apples and oranges.

Plus last year was the year of movies that dealt with issues. Crash was pretty much the racial Brokeback Mountain.

Yah you do have a point there. I just loved the Prestige :)
Yeah, I thought it was good. Not as good as people on this board make it out to be. You know the ones...the ones on the "OMGZ! BATMAN AND WOLVERNE AND SCARLT IN THE SAMZ MOVIE DIRECTEDBY BATMAN DIRECTORZ!!! LMAOZ! PWNED!" trip.

I don't think anyone uses that exact line. ;)

Affleck's got it locked up I think. Nicholson could stand in his way, just because he is going on 70, and it could very well be his last chance to get an oscar (then again, considering Affleck's self-destructive script choices...this could be HIS last chance). Also, Nicholson is doing a movie due out next year with Morgan Freeman about terminally ill cancer patients directed by Rob Reiner...so, yeah, that just screams Oscar bait. Yeah, its 'Fleck's to lose.

Yeah, I was just gonna say regarding to it being Nicholson's last chance... he'll surely be up for something from that road trip movie with Freeman.

I'm happy for Ben, I think too many people give him a really hard time, but he's finally getting the recognition he deserves.

The prestige will def not be in the running, I saw it the other day and was disapointed, whilst enjoyable, and a good movie, it fails to be a 'great' movie, although the awards are notoriously rigged, for example, tom hanks beating nigel hawthorne for best actor??? Did they even watch the madness of king george, or did they just say "we can't have another brit winning again!"

The Proposition will surely get a nod for Best Movie.

I'm pretty sure that Babel will win Best Picture just because it seemed to have been made for winning awards.

i always feel like a jerk when i read these threads because i end up wanting to shoot everyone in the forehead. :csad::o
