8.15 - Infamous - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I wonder why he's late. Probably out saving people...

OK so then I guess the $67,000 question then becomes how does it all get undone?

Is Clark dreaming/hallucinating it?
Does Jor El pull a Cher again and "turn back time?"

as someone said..legion ring maybe? he could go back in time and make a different choice.

Yea i was just watching it myself man it looks great. So far seems much better then power and most of requiem. Cant wait to see how the episode unfolds and ends seeing if its alternate universe, time travel reveasal, etc.......

If he does change the events, I do hope he remembers how Lois reacted to his secret and think it's possible for them to have a relationship.

yea i really cant wait to see how this episode does play out. And i cant see the events staying like what we saw no way they would do that for the rest of the season/series. Plus with the spoilers from episode 16 sounds like something had to been changed.

Sadly, this is probably the closest we get to having Welling as Superman. :(

Another thing. I really hope Martha's name is mentioned. Think about the biggest story in history...An alien lives in Kansas. And his mother is a US Senator.

lol true, but I assume Infamous is shortly after Lana leaves and Clark has been hung up on Lana for 7 1/2 years. This is the whole problem with the Lana arc, the fact Clark isn't shown to put in any effort into finding a cure other then going on Dr Grohl's words opens up alot of questioning to that arc.

But hey the last time Clark's gf died he didn't even seem to care the next episode

As I've said, is just the same old lazy inconsistent writing.

Kiss or no kiss, this is ridiculous. If TPTB are trying to make Lois look like Clark's rebound, they are doing a great job with that.
Some viewers who choose to ship won't give a crap just as long as their ship gets their moment which is great for them. Meanwhile, many Superman fans will have to watch how PS3 continue screwing up Clark's integrity even further, turning him into an emo man****e. :whatever:

How hard is to keep continuity and progressively develop a relationship so in the end is not another contrived lightswitch... is not, but TPTB could care less.

I get what you're saying. Just busting your chops a bit. Thsi ep does seem to pick up where we left off with Bride, which isnt necessarily a bad thing.

It does look that way and that being the case it seems like the send off for Lana arc was a bad decision.

UPDATED 2/13/09: - Lois thinks she's the first person Clark has told, before he reveals that he told Chloe and Lana before her.

That's not true. Clark never told Chloe or Lana. They found out without Clark's consent.

^^ Yes, but Clark told them the details about his Kryptonian origins. ;)

yeah, before he told them about his origins, they just thought he was another meteor freak...

It's funny, that preview did give me the feeling of the show picking up right after Bride & Legion... making Power and Requiem feel all the more out of place (and, for me, Bulletproof feeling all the more... forgettable).

UPDATED 2/13/09: Clark picks Lois up at the airport upon her return to Metropolis. When he shows up a bit late, Lois starts to feel that remembering her isn't very high on his priority list.... of course once she learns the secret, it all will start to make sense.
- When Clark tells Lois about his abilities, she at first thinks he is joking.
- Lois thinks she's the first person Clark has told, before he reveals that he told Chloe and Lana before her.
- Davis is curious about how much of the recent weeks that Chloe actually remembers.
- There is a chance Lois and Clark might be doing something they were interrupted from doing back in "Bride."

:wow::woot: LOVING the spoilers

I honestly don't think of Lois as a rebound girl. They put that relationship into play since the season started. Clark had pretty much accepted that Lana left and looked like he was ready to move on. It would have been nice if the Clark and Lana story got a better ending, but it didn't. Still doesn't ruin what Clark and Lois had during the first 10 episodes, IMO.

Well, not exactly. They both found out he had abilities without him telling them (Chloe, because of Alicia; and Lana, through her own suspicions), but the reveal about his true alien origins, his BIG secret was something he willingly told them.

The distinction, as I see it, is that he told Chloe after he knew she had found out already and had seen the FOS.

He made a decision to finally tell Lana everything before he knew that she had seen him use his abilities and had assumed he was meteor-infected. Actually, he voluntarily told her twice - first in Reckoning, when he also proposed; and again in Phantom.

But why put the brakes on in the first place? With Lana gone by choice at the end of last season, it seemed very natural to see Clark moving on with his life, slowly falling for another woman, and aspiring to fulfill his destiny. Instead, we were asked to hit pause while the writers showed us that Clark hadn't moved on and that he would still choose Lana over Lois if given the choice. Furthermore, the arc left fans with no reason to doubt Clark wouldn't do it again if Lana was ever cured in the future. Ouch. No, really, OUCH! In SV continuity, Lois and Clark are destined to be with each other because Clark couldn't be with Lana.

Now I know there's opposition to this opinion, particularly between those who phrase their displeasure as "Lois will forever be 'sloppy seconds'" and those who feel the former must never have had more than one serious relationship in their lives to understand that, but this is fiction folks. The relationships are crafted by writers who have the ability to manipulate the outcome of the story anyway they choose. They can make it uplifting, mature and positive just as easily as they can make it ironic, tragic and depressing. SV often takes the latter route, unfortunately.

I went back and re-read some of my early comments based on spoilers for unaired episodes and it appears that some predictions did come true, despite the wait and see attitude I and others had taken:

Power:
All I see with those sides is a great big break being applied to the forward progression of this season, not to mention a retcon of Lana's goodbye video letter to Clark.
Retconning the faux circumstances for Lana's departure last season - as dumb as it was - means they have to go through yet another break-up/separation, All. Over. Again. Lets just pause for about five episodes as that plays out, 'cause you know they're gonna play that angle like a drum.

...I had hoped Lana's return would be less.... over-the-top. Oh well. Guess I should have known better.

Requiem:
I don't mind Lois not being in some episodes. With episodes like Bulletproof, it's obvious Clark will be taking some mighty big steps (leaps? LOL) forward with or without her, which is how it should be really. That said, I miss their playful banters when she's not around. And I'm not sure why the writers felt they needed to have Lana back for five episodes just to close out her story, but I'm trying to keep an open mind on that until I have reason to judge otherwise. :D
^ This in a nutshell is why I'm looking forward to Infamous. I just want to get back to the fun and enjoyment I was having as a fan of this show at the beginning of the season.

I think when Infamous airs, we will all forget the past few episodes and it will feel like we picked up where Bride or Legion left off. I for one would like to forget Power and Requiem just like how I would like to forget Batman and Robin and Superman IV...

Not all. Despite deceiving appearances to the contrary, not "all" hated the past few episodes.

And "all" are not dreading the upcoming ones.

:facepalm

Should we forget the plot holes, poor continuity and emoman Clark too?

BTW, after "Infamous",
episodes 8.16-8.19 seem kind of filler and lame, with plenty of the Choomy depressing triangle crap, dark!Chloe, etc.

He made a decision to finally tell Lana everything before he knew that she had seen him use his abilities and had assumed he was meteor-infected.

Yes, and maybe he should have known what exactly Lana did to find out.

Yes, and maybe he should have known what exactly Lana did to find out.

Well, this is the wrong place for dredging that argument up, so I won't, other than pointing out that a little personal investigation to confirm suspicions is normally applauded on this show - unless it's Lana, of course.

Yes, and maybe he should have known what exactly Lana did to find out.

Actually he knew Lana was snooping around to find out, he saw photos of her in his barn, and at the end of that episode (i saw it recently on HDnet) he hinted that he knew what she was up to, so i guess he understood. And no its not right to do that at all, but no one on the show is in the position to throw stones at anyone.
