86th Annual Academy Awards (2014) - Part 2

McQueen definitely always rubs me the wrong way in interviews, I checked out both director's roundtables from Hollywood Reporter with him, and he just comes across as awkward, defensive, often pretentious.

Wouldn't be surprised if he was a total *****e in everyday life.

Damn it does look like that way...McQueen does appear like a snobby prick at times in his interviews.

Ridley is a stern serious guy who probably did not like what McQueen was playing at. Good for Ridley. I am very happy Cuaron won the oscar too for Best Director

There was no director who deserved the award more than Cuarón. We all knew that back in October. He was the driving force, the heart, and the soul of Gravity. The fact that he edited the film and won an Oscar for it was icing on the cake.

I wonder if Interstellar can replicate the same success for Nolan next year?

McQueen...what a childish , smug azz that guy is. Wow....just wow!

Good to see WB's dominating Oscar night....again. Looking at you WB's haters:

There's always going to be a "can't you people get over it" crowd that's going to always have an automatic negative visceral reaction to any movie about a historically oppressed people, sadly.

After Sean Penn won the Oscar for Milk, people talking about the "gay agenda" behind it was disturbing.

How does saying that you feel a movie won because of its subject matter translate into being part of the "can't you people get over it" crowd? Just about any time a movie that deals with any number of sensitive subjects wins I almost always feel the academy acknowledges it based more on said subject matter or a particular portrayal than the actual artistic merits of the film. I've always felt this way, I don't see how that translates to being racist though which your statement clearly implies with the whole "can't you people get over it" thing.

so for those who watched the whole show and watched all the Best Song performances......

were any of the other song performances shortened/sped up like Let It Go was?

were they sung/performed at their original length and tempo?

just curious.

Best Songs are usually shortened at the Oscars, it's pretty rare that a song is sung in its entirety unless it's pretty short to begin with.

Love the song but Menzel gave a poor performance last night. All of the other performers were better.

So in Travolta speak Godzilla and Gojira are both Gabriella interesting.

Haha, ok. It was a gross generalization. Let me rephrase: I believe there is sometimes more to an Oscar winner than merely the quality of said movie, in particular movies with sociopolitical themes.

Except that they got everything right this year.

He's gonna produce his own bio-pic about never getting the Oscars...and would STILL lose.

43 million viewers tuned into the #Oscars, the most-watched entertainment telecast since the 'Friends' finale in 2004.

Wow!

Travolta's not gonna live that one down for a while.

But seriously, "Dazeem"? How the hell do you get that out of "Menzel"?

I can see mispronouncing "Idina", but Menzel seems pretty straightforward.

I think it might be a dyslexia issue or some other kind of cognitive thing. Because unless the teleprompter guy really screwed up, there's no logical explanation for that error.
