86th Annual Academy Awards (2014) - Part 2

Yes, when you compare it to their treatment of the other categories. Even down to the shoddy editing in the "popular heroes" montage, compared to the others.

And for a ceremony centered around heroes, dontcha think Superheroes should have special, or rather individual, focus?

I agree that they should have had a better montage for heroes but I think due to being on a superhero message board the bias is a bit strong to think they should have their own montage and not share it with other film heroes.

Yep.

I want to them the benefit of the doubt and say it was just due to time restraints.

However, do to comments made about superheroes and how they treated the montage (lumping popular and super heroes together), I just see as another testament to the fact that the Academy hates superheroes.

Yes a montage including close to a dozen different superheroes proves that the academy hates superheroes .

The "real life heroes" montage is what got me though, including Atticus Finch.

Idina Menzel really was off tonight. Good thing the song awards weren't based off tonight's performances.
If it was based on performances Karen O would've won.I think Happy should of won though.

It probably resulted due to Travolta's complete mispronunciation of her name. :o

Seriously, how did he get "Adele Dazeem" out of Idina Menzel?

I want to see him pronounce M Night Shyamalan

Look, people, I know this is a superhero board and all but it's time to forget about the Academy's attitude towards the genre. It's a genre that's never going to be seen as anything more than popcorn money makers. 6 years ago was the best chance the genre had at being taken seriously. Just live with it and move on.

I get a feeling that Saturday Night Live is going to get one of the Actor winners to host.

Exactly.

Looks like Travolta's ploy to get people to talk about him again worked.

I don't want to come off racist but as soon as I saw Will Smith, I knew it was 12 Years a Slave for BP. Not that it isn't deserving I just didn't think it was the best movie of the year, WOWS for me, I just wish they hadn't channeled it that bluntly.

Before this awards season, June Squibb was one of those actors who fit into the "you recognized their faces in the movies but don't know their names" category.

Because I had seen her before in many other movies before Nebraska.

What's up with his hair?

It's like a wig of Shawn Hunter hair...

Yeah.

But bias or not, it's fishy that film superheroes, film heroes by definition, don't have individual focus. Especially when categories with characters that aren't a traditionally defined hero did.

Yeah, I caught that as well. She was singing too damn fast. That orchestra was probably sweating for a second.

As for Chiwetel, he'll be fine. Heck, he's rumored for SW Episode 7 and is the popular choice for T'Challa.

Ejiofor in the new trilogy would be a dream come true. He deserves it.

:lmao:

haha..seems like a running joke. hope they have Travolta present next year and give him another zinger to pronounce. lol

They honestly should run with it. It will be even more hilarious once people are aware of it.

How would John Travolta pronounce 'John Travolta'?

"....Tom Cruise."

Next year they need to just let viewers vote on a list of names and have Travolta read them all off onstage.
