Yep especilly since most likely Bryan Singer will be directing.
This ain't gonna be an X4. It's gonna be a FC sequel. The overwhelming majority of the screen time will be with the FC characters.
What makes you think that?
Have you read DOFP?
The time traveler is the lead, with both factions in the past and present serving equal screentime.
Because FC takes place in the 60s, the time traveler has to be someone from the present-day faction.
"The overwhelming majority of the screentime" will be given to the time traveler who has to roam both times.
The time traveler is not going to be the lead. That character, who ever it ends up being, will play second fiddle behind ProfX and Magneto. There won't be "equal" screentime between past/present. No way! That makes no sense. Not with the main leads all in the 60's.
I agree that the lead timeline should be the past, but Im afraid Fox pushed for a decent screentime for the x-men on the future, and if Singer ends directing, maybe he would like that too, dont know
in that case, I just hope there is a equal screentime, they can do it, its not that hard. The traveler going to the past and meeting the x-men and all of that will need time too, so lets hope Singer and Simon do a great job with the script.

What makes you think that they will actually follow the original story? As opposed to simply adapting some idea from it?

You're acting as if DOFP is just a sequel to FC. Its not. Its an event movie that combines both factions.
If you read the comic, you'll see the time traveler is the main role. Fassbender, Lawrence & McAvoy are leads, but so is the traveler - and he belongs to the present-day faction.
This isn't going to be exactly like the comic. Like I said, in this movie the time traveler will be playing second fiddle. The time traveler will get his/her share but the "present-day faction"/future sequences won't make up half this movie. The majority of the story will take place with young Magneto/brotherhood and young Charles/X-Men. Those guys are the core. Sure this film isn't just a FC sequel, but it mostly will be.
You're assuming the FC cast is going to lead the picture because you keep thinking this is an FC sequel. Again, its not.
Its an event movie based on DOFP.
The star of DOFP is the time traveler. The two factions will share equal screentime.
If the studio was looking to bastardize the source material, they'd make the time traveler a secondary character. That wouldn't make sense at all though.
If you truly believe Fassbender, Lawrence, McAvoy & the rest of the FC cast will/should be only given half of this movie then I think you're gonna pretty disappointed come July 2014. Because the split in screentime sure as hell ain't gonna be 50/50.
Have you read the screenplay? Or the comic?
Sounds like alot of wishful thinking on your part and not enough basis on source material.
This isn't a sequel to FC. If it were, it wouldn't be called DOFP.
I seriously doubt FOX is going to bastardize DOFP just to make sure the leads of FC get 90% of the screentime.
There's a reason the studio went the event movie route instead of the FC2 route.
Wouldn't it be absolutely crazy if they decide they want to pull a Peter Jackson (or Matrix sequels, or Kill Bill) and extend/split this movie into a two-parter?
With the third Hobbit film trying to bully this film out of its prime mid-July date (Up yours Peter Jackson!) Fox could decide to move this first movie for Holiday 2014 and the second part Summer 2014, mid-July. Just wishful-thinking.
How do you know that? The First Class sequel doesnt need to be called First Class 2 to get that label. DOFP has been called the follow up to FC and only FC actors are confirmed. Until more information and actors are signed no one can make a call. Singer even said things are gonna be changed, only thing to take from the comic is the main idea right now. Everything else is speculation.

I want to see the the Future scenes take up time too man, but the main focus of the plot is probably gonna take place in the past trying to stop the incident that leads to the future. Knowing that the FC crew is returning, I would assume most the time and incident would revolve around them and that time period. Who knows how everythings gonna actually come together, but that seems the most logical to me.The "main idea" doesn't work without both factions.
To make the film about the FC cast alone with 5 minutes of Singer's X-Men would be a bastardization of the comic and another X3.
