Great premier, not very taken with the new characters but I loved the opening in 1945 and overall the production value looks like it's been given a boost.

Where did you get the idea that Cap defeated "most" of Hydra? I didn't get that from TWS at all. He just exposed them and flung them out into the open. I'm fairly certain that just like the comics Hydra is one of those organizations that will never be defeated fully. The Avengers are still fighting them at the start of AoU. That's kind of Hydra's gimmick, even after you think they are defeated they always comeback, hence, cut off one head and two more shall take it's place

Point. I guess I kind of assumed that SHIELD was HYDRA's main thing.

The fact that they supposedly exposed all of HYDRA's secrets, only for then to be far more to HYDRA than even that, is what bugs me.

I mean sure, HYDRA always comes back, but that's usually after a period of defeat. The show made it look like HYDRA's exposure/SHIELD's dissolution is a temporary hurdle rather than a defeat.

Yeah, last season started off really poorly and only picked up once the HYDRA/Captain America aftermath was inserted into the show. This season has started off MUCH better.

Agree completely. I feared the Hydra/cap2 tie in was just a desperate, shark-jumping move to boost ratings. Well, it was that, but it also boosted the dramatic tension and the overall quality (acting, writing, production values) of the show. They hit the ground running with the premiere. In particular, the fitz stuff was very well done.

That's what Talbot thinks, but the point Ward's information provided was that despite what Talbot thinks - there are still pockets/cells of HYDRA hidden all over, and they're still communicating with each other.

Not true. Last season was a disappointment for tons of people and it's why the ratings were cut in half from the series premiere to season finale. It had tons of potential and I know plenty of people who, like myself, WANTED to like the show but it was way off. I continued to watch hoping it got better and it did in ways but I understood why people didn't like it.
Fast forward to this season and I loved this episode. I wouldn't label the people who hated last season and people who loved to hate it. It started out mediocre.

Again, agree completely with this. People really need to stop whining about what is a totally non-controversial opinion: the first half of last season wasnt very good. get over it.

the fact is the vast majority of us (so-called) naysayers were and are rooting for the show to succeed. We werent trolling, we just had higher standards. Its pretty clear that Marvel recognized they needed to up their game, and they did. I applaud them.

Where did Simmons go? Surely she can't just wander off without getting picked up either by her own government or the enemy?

My wild card thought is, maybe we'll find out Simmons was actually Hydra and she bolted. You'll note from last season there was always speculation (even by Fitz) that she might be.

That being said, last night's episode was way too much to process in one viewing. Will definitely be going back through it. My wife (unaware of who Lucy Lawless is) tagged her as a 'red shirt' before the mission. Had to eat crow after telling her that there's no way.

That is a good question and I was wondering that myself. There is no academy for her to go back too and with the zeal that Talbot has been going after Coulson I doubt he would just let one of his team live a normal life. I'm sure it will be explained but it does make you wonder. Maybe Coulson sent her off to do some special work or something?

Probably not STRIKE, since they were the SHIELD special ops team, not a separate organization. Maybe MI:13 then?

I thought that the issue was good with flashes of great.

I never saw a single episode of Xena...so I fully accept that this character's death was used to get her money hungry mercenary friend into the team with a purpose beyond money.

We didn't learn a whole lot about the new members, but whatever...I can wait.

I hope that Ward isn't doing a slow turn to the good side. He's a murderer who threatened to destroy the entire world. I will not accept him as a good person just because he wants to have sex with a girl that I (and many others) want to have sex with.

I have never been a fan of FitzSimmons. I'm not a fan of this current storyline either. However, if they are leading somewhere (like him turning evil) than I'm willing to wait it out. However, we now have two of the male leads from last year who are psychotically obsessed (or whatever) with two of the female leads from last year.

Absorbing Man is great so far. I'm not too cool with the idea that he seems to actually be able to absorb INTO a wall, as opposed to just taking on the wall's properties...but whatever.

So, Absorbing Man is the recurring heavy...Kraken is the background bad guy...and we still have Skye's dad out there waiting to become the A storyline. And there's the Kree stuff (including the obelisk and the Kree writing etc) etc. It's all pretty exciting and I look forward to seeing how it impacts the MCU.

I didn't take it that way at all. He was still in full three-dimensional form, just transparent, and standing pressed up against the wall, so as to avoid moving, and potentially causing an optical distortion that would give him away.
