Supergirl All About The Ratings!!!!!! - Part 1

Supergirl has the toughest night of the week, by far, above all....no other night compares.

Yes, LoT is benefiting from their lead in, and they should....they needed that help for sure.

Supergirl held steady on a night where all other shows dropped except a .10 increase for DWTS and The Good Doctor.... not bad, NOT GREAT, but not bad. :)

I think Legends is ONLY doing better because of its new lead in.

Legends was extremely consistent last year despite changing timeslots at midseason, whereas Supergirl was all over the place.

Every Legends of Tomorrow episode except four scored in between a 0.53 and a 0.67 last year. Two scored higher (including the crossover), two scored lower (partially due to being pre-empted by sports).

Supergirl tended to decline for a few episodes at a time, then bounce back big, but not to the level prior to the declines. It was below a 0.65 seven times but also above a 0.90 four times.

Season by season averages don't look very good for Supergirl. I realize the show moved networks, but this is still pretty ugly:
Season 1: 1.68
Season 2: 0.73 (-57%)
Season 3: 0.50 (-32%)

The fact that the show is so far off its season 2 average after only 2 episodes is concerning.

Look at the declines for the other Arrowverse shows by comparison

Legends of Tomorrow
Season 1: 0.80
Season 2: 0.64 (-20%)
Season 3: 0.60 (-6%)

The Flash
Season 1: 1.44
Season 2: 1.37 (-5%)
Season 3: 1.06 (-23%)
Season 4: 1.10 (+4%)

Arrow
Season 1: 1.10
Season 2: 0.90 (-13%)
Season 3: 1.01 (+11%)
Season 4: 0.94 (-7%)
Season 5: 0.62 (-35%)
Season 6: 0.60 (-3%)

Of course all the decline percentages for this season will grow as the shows go along, so Supergirl starting out this far off is not great news.

Besides the lack of promotion for last night's Supergirl episode, they need to get Supergirl out of that ridiculous phase especially one that centers around Mon-El.

I think this has to do with all the backlash entertainment has been getting. And I will not go into the Weinstein detail, but it has been going on before this broke.

People in this country hate media when it disrespects it because things did not go the media or Hollywood or a sports league's way. The more Hollywood, ESPN, the NFL etc continue their whining, the bigger the backlash is going to be. Look at the ratings everywhere.

Not any streaming or on demand services can fix it. No ratings equals no revenue. We in essence when we pay our cable or internet or satellite bill we are in a way paying the industries and their salary. Isolating half the nation as the above mentioned has been doing will just increase this backlash tenfold.

There is no spin about it.

This isn't about Supergirl which I think is now entering the danger zone, but it's about Hollywood in general. Their empire is crumbling.

Legend's time slot was changed to save it.

There's no problem with Supergirl's S2 season average but I agree that S3 is low.

No it wasn't. The show actually had better ratings on Thursdays with no lead in than it did on Tuesdays with Flash last season.

Thursdays: 0.7012
Tuesdays: 0.5811

At no point during its existence has Legends of Tomorrow needed saving.

Pretty sure those folks abandoned Supergirl early in the first season. If it took until this season to realize Supergirl has a very liberal slant they weren't paying attention.

These are the ratings.

For starters, your Thursday's average is inflated by the crossover.

Nevertheless, it was the lowest rated of the comicbook shows, hitting a bunch of 0.6s in the fall so I bet it was put behind the Flash to help its ratings. Which it did and it didn't hit 0.5 (unrounded) till the spring.

Feel free to disagree with it but in my opinion, it was put behind The Flash because they felt its synergy would help keep the ratings afloat.

It's not a matter of opinion. It was moved because they wanted Riverdale to get a compatible lead in, which was Supernatural due to the similar male/female skews for those shows. Legends is heavily male and therefore would not pair well with a teen drama like Riverdale. They are planning on using Riverdale to launch a shared universe ala the Arrowverse, so they really wanted it to do well.

Being the lowest rated fall comic book show isn't relevant when it was still doing much, much better than most of the rest of the schedule.

Yeah, Supergirl is no where near the danger zone. Hell, Valor and Dynasty are still kind of toss ups.

Legends was a lead in on Thursdays as part of their 4-night comic book set up. I doubt it would have been moved if the ratings weren't lower than hoped. No Tomorrow flopped right after The Flash and didn't get the back nine, freeing up a spot. And the Flash lead in had proven unsuccessful in launching new show so it made sense to use it to help Legends as it's part of the Arrowverse and would work better.

But anyway, we don't need to keep arguing about this.

The start of the NBA season and the MLB playoffs last night really hit CW Tuesdays hard.

Flash dropped to a 0.9, Legends of Tomorrow down to a 0.5. Hopefully they can rebound next week.

We'll see how Arrow and Gotham look. Gifted was down, Flash and Legends were down. Only Supergirl and Lucifer stayed flat, and looking at their unrounded preliminary numbers, they were pretty close to dropping to a tenth each too.

I wonder if the CW can't wait to promote the crossover.

Supergirl went slightly up in viewership in the final totals, but stayed at 0.5.

MLB and NBA is still no where near the powerhouses of Monday nights. It would be interesting to see how the other shows would fair on Mondays.

SPN is steady as hell. In a few years when The Flash is pulling in .5's, SPN will be the CW's #1 show pulling in .7's. :cwink:

50 seasons and a movie! lol

Arrow dropped to 0.5 in finals.

Supernatural held onto its 0.7 from last week and was the network's #2 show this week.

Gotham also adjusted up to a 0.9.

Since nobody cares how Inhumans is doing, we can just do this now

This week's comic book broadcast TV scoreboard:
The Gifted: 1.1
The Flash: 0.9
Lucifer: 0.9 (likely a low 0.9 because the preliminary number was 0.8)
Gotham: 0.9 (likely a low 0.9 because the preliminary number was a 0.8)
Riverdale: 0.6
Arrow: 0.5 (likely a high 0.5 since the preliminary number was a 0.6))
Legends of Tomorrow: 0.5
Supergirl: 0.5 (likely a low 0.5 as the preliminary number was in the high .4s unrounded)

Legends was also 0.4 unrounded if I recall.

Supergirl did beat Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow in viewers this week though.
The Flash - 2.536 M
Riverdale - 1.764 M
Supergirl - 1.755 M
LoT - 1.581 M
Arrow - 1.505 M

Last week too. I think it's always going to skew a little older.

But again, I have to give it up for Supernatural. #2 in demo and viewers.

I go by viewership than ratings and I'm glad Supergirl went up this week.

Huge bump for Supergirl in the Live+3rd day.
Live 0.5
+3 0.9
an 80% increase.

I was looking at possibly 0.7 in the L3...this was a nice surprise.
