Supergirl All About The Ratings!!!!!! - Part 1

5x09 ended with 1.9
5x10 came in at 1.6
5x11 went back up to 1.9
everything after that was a 1.6 or below until the finale.

I don't think viewers would suddenly decide to change their viewing habits that fast.

Oh. I'd stopped watching well before that. Did something happen in the plot that upset people?

Well I only watched 5x09-5x11 of that season lol so I wouldn't know to much. Of course 5x09 was after the crossover so thats natural to have some viewers stick around and then 5x10 was Black Sirens introduction into Arrow after the hiatus and 5x11, Dinahs.

It is probably one of the reasons why Pedowitz was toying with moving the crossover to January since their shows lose viewers in the 2nd half of the season for whatever reason.

Oh boy, I hope they don't do that. These crossovers interrupt the momentum of the shows, and that would be made worse if it were placed when the plots were really supposed to be picking up and getting more intense. Best to keep them early on in the seasons, imo. Well, I guess January wouldn't be so bad, but any later than that would be problematic.

I think moving it to the 10th episode wouldnt be so bad, they just woud have to construct their mid season finales to have less "impactful" cliff hangers.

Though last season Supergirl didn't have a cliffhanger in the fall finale. That was the "Medusa" story and everything got neatly wrapped up just in time for Barry and Cisco to take Kara to Earth-1.
Then after the break Kara and Mon-El took an all expenses paid trip to Slaver's Moon. It wasn't until three episodes later that the events in "Medusa" were picked up again in "Luthors"

OR they could have the crossovers on episode 11 and give the shows a chance to wrap up any hiatus cliffhangers. Now that I think about it, there usually is a bit of a lull there in the early part of the back half of the season, so it might not be a bad time for crossover after all. But you'd think they'd want to keep it during a sweeps month, though.

I thought they were all .9 in the ratings?

I would definitely like White Canary there instead of Guardian for sure....

They could switch places.

Legends was .92 something a little higher but I'll take it. At least on the site I was looking at. on the White Canary thing, it would just be nice to have her guest star on Supergirl by herself for episode or two. Legends would definitely not be as fun without her. and lets face it. Sara needs to kick Guardian's butt.

I honestly agree with Stephen when he said that if they are going to continue these events, they need to change the format. Especially since he was the most prominent in the crossover and got the most screen time.

If anything, they should just drop the 4 show crossovers and form a JL miniseries they do once a year with the TV version of the holy trinity. Of course that would be the leads, Supergirl, GA, the Flash. (Any thought of booting off Supergirl in a DCTV JL version is simply ridiculous and a real slap in the face for Melissa who works her heart out for DCTV as do all the leads.)

If the goal is to give the fans an event every year. The best thing is to do that. Form a DCTV JL and combine the budget for a 3 or 4 part miniseries that you kick off the season with. IE. First week of Fall TV. M-T. Gets everyone ramped up for the individual seasons and doesn't interfere with the individual show's momentum.

It also makes financial sense as it's more economical to shoot. Gives WB DCTV the additional JL mini series to monetize for stand alone DVD sales. AND, should the shows end at different times in the future, they can still continue to make the DCTV JL series as long as it's profitable and the stars want to do it.

It doesn't change the shooting schedule except they might even save on shooting days and budget.

So that's my proposal. Start the year off with the DCTV JL in October to kick of the shows. Get the DVD out for purchase soon after. No interference on individual momentum of the shows and a possible cut on shooting days and budget.

Flash adjusted up to a 1.0 and 2.82 million total viewers in the ratings finals for the crossover episode. So:

Supergirl 0.9 / 2.713 million
Arrow 0.9 / 2.521 million
Flash 1.0 / 2.815 million
Legends of Tomorrow 0.9 / 2.797 million

Also Supergirl has moved up to second place in total viewers for the CW with a season average of 1.951 million viewers, passing Supernatural in total viewers.
Still at 4th place in the 18-49 though

Daylight Savings Time is the culprit for ALL SHOWS in the Spring....they all take a pretty drastic drop after that day. Daylight at 7:00/8:00 p.m. means you play, not watch TV.

This cannot be stressed enough.

Other factors include improving weather and increased competition from the start of the MLB season, the NCAA basketball tournament, and the playoff stretches in the NBA and NHL.

So the Flash is back up on top with the adjustments. Glad Supergirl is 2nd place in total viewers. Is the Flash on top with total viewers?

Yes, Supergirl is 3rd behind Flash and LoT in total viewers.

So just on the ratings and viewers...the median (average) rating is 0.925, the millions of viewers median comes in at 2.712 million.

One can imagine the L+3 and L+7...this crossover was massive.

Ratings for the December 4th episode "Reign"

0.5/1.76 million

A bit of a viewer drop from the pre-crossover episode.

It will pick up in +3 and +7 when some viewers realize that that was not the season finale.

That is a big drop from the crossover. There were better ways for last night's episode to be presented.

Probably the only one that won't have a major drop is Flash, and it may very well have a drop as well.

Also, last night, Monday Night Football game, The Voice goes to the final 8 with a 1.9 in ratings....

Supergirl simply went back to its Season average.

Final ratings for the December 4th episode "Reign"

0.5/1.81 million

A slight uptick in viewers from the preliminary number and 0.11 million less viewers than the episode before the crossover.

This is to be expected; crossovers rarely generate a long term bump in the ratings. Especially for the less popular shows. Supergirl will keep chugging along at 0.5, maybe hit some 0.4s towards the end of the year. It doesn't really matter as there is only a 0.08 point difference among Supernatural, Riverdale, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Arrow in the season averages. All of those shows are absolutely going to get renewed, unless one of the Supernatural leads just decides to hang it up (and there are no signs of that happening).
