Supergirl All About The Ratings!!!!!! - Part 1

I've just never found the Legends cast particularly interesting or watchable, outside of Sarah and Mick, and sometimes Stein. The team just doesn't gel to me and the writers try to force them to with all the excessive quips. For me it's just a show where they throw all their scraps at the wall to see what sticks, and so much of it doesn't. Supergirl has usurped Flash as my favorite this season, as I feel it's the only show that's improved with every season and the chemistry among the cast (minus Olsen and Mon-El) has really popped. Plus they finally have a compelling villain plot with momentum and stakes. But I agree about the worst seasons of the franchise being those Arrow seasons, though. Yikes.

For me, off the top of my head

Flash S1 > Flash S2 > Arrow S5 > Arrow S2 > Flash S3 > Arrow S1 > Legends S2 > Vixen webseries > The Flash (1990) > Supergirl S2 > Constantine > Supergirl S1 > Legends S1 > Arrow S3 > Arrow S4

So far this season it's
Black Lightning > Flash > Arrow > Freedom Fighters > Legends > Supergirl

I have high hopes for the animated Constantine continuation. Matt Ryan is great in the role; the problem with the last show was bad producers. Goyer and Cerone.

For some reason I wasn't even counting Black Lightning since it's not official Arrowverse (yet), but I agree that's easily the best this season.

Anyway, of the past seasons, I'd go:

Flash S1 > Flash S2 > Flash S3 > Supergirl S2 > Arrow S5 > Arrow S2 > Arrow S1 > Legends S2 > Supergirl S1 > Legends S1 > Arrow S3 > Arrow S4

I didn't watch Constantine, Vixen or the original Flash show. I agree about Matt Ryan, though. David Goyer was what kept me away from Constantine.

But this season so far it's:

Black Lightning > Supergirl > Flash > Arrow > Freedom Fighters > Legends

I liked the Family Vibe of Black Lightning, it's just not my cup of tea...as far Flash, Arrow and Legends....I watch those in the summer. So I can't really say.

Should be interesting to see how Legends does in Supergirl's timeslot. Legends has been moved all over the schedule.

And it seems to hold it's fanbase....they are a quiet bunch, but they are loyal.

Vixen is an easy watch. I recommend Vixen: the Movie as they edited together both seasons of the webseries and added 15 minutes of new content. Well worth it.

Constantine has a lot going for it but just as many issues. John and Chas are cast perfectly, the show looks great, the music is great, and there are three or four standalone episodes out of the 13 that are fantastic. But Zed's actress is bad, the overarching plot never really comes together, the pilot was god awful, and it ends on something of a cliffhanger. I'd love to see them resolve said cliffhanger on Legends, even if they just mention how it turned out without necessarily showing it.

1990 Flash was a pretty forward thinking show, but also heavily influenced by Burton's Batman. Early episodes have Flash dealing with more grounded threats like motor cycle gangs, corrupt politicians, drug dealers, mobsters, etc. But about halfway through it becomes much more of a Flash show. Parts of it haven't aged well but John Wesley Shipp is great in the lead role and Mark Hamill's performance as the Trickster is what landed him his iconic Joker role. There are also some appearances by actors who would later become huge, like Bryan Cranston. So far six characters from the show have been on Flash as a doppelganger (Flash, Trickster, Tina McGee, Julio Mendez, Tony Bellows, and most recently Prank). If you're a big fan of the modern show it's worth checking out. I bought the complete series on DVD for $10.

0.5 for Legends last night in the new timeslot.

Considering the Olympics did a massive 5.2 rating and Legends is the most male-skewing drama on all of network television, this is a very good result.

Thanks for the recs, I'd definitely rather see Vixen as a movie than in super short increments, so it's nice to know that's an option. And I just saw an ad about Constantine being on CW Seed now, too.

.5 is indeed a great number for Legends considering the time slot move and competition.

Real test for Legends is to see if they can withstand March Madness. I wonder come next season if they're going to pair up Supergirl with Legends on Mondays.

March Madness is not a bigger test than the Olympics. Not by a longshot.

Anyway, Black Lightning hit a 0.5 too last night, also against the Olympics, but with a repeat episode of The Flash (0.3 rating) as its lead in. That's a fantastic result.

As for next season, if they are going to pair any other Arrowverse show with Supergirl the most likely candidate would be Arrow. It has demographics much closer to Supergirl's since it skews older and slightly less male than Flash, Legends, or Black Lightning.

I have a feeling that Black Lightning is quickly moving to the norm of 5 - 6 in ratings like the other Superhero shows....

So far, Supergirl seems to have avoided the season 3 curse of the Arrow-verse shows.

I'm not too invested into Legends. It is something I will binge once it is on Netflix.

LoT was easily the weakest of the Arrowverse shows. At least initially. But it started to find its footing by going more comedic. And the last episode was actually quite good - though much of the credit must go to a special appearance by John Constantine.

I find the comedy too forced a lot of the time so it going more comedic hasn’t really helped it for me. I agree Monday’s ep was one of their better ones thanks to Constantine, though.

I really don't think the genre is capable of more on CW anymore without an A-lister like The Flash.

As for Legends, I think the thing that made it better was when they just embraced the fact that the show is ridiculous and stupid. It's dumb fun and that's the way it should be.

With the Olympics, Black Lightning beat the Flash? that is really different to say the least.

Holy crap, I missed the news but CW just dropped a bombshell. They're expanding regular programming to Sunday nights next year, meaning they will air 12 hours of programming per week instead of 10.

So there's your answer about how the hell they're going to fit all these DC shows on the schedule next year.

EDIT

Sunday could be a really good place to put female-skewing shows in the fall. Maybe leave Fridays with Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex alone, then move Riverdale and Dynasty to Sunday nights. That way all the dudes watching football don't tank the network's ratings.

Whoa....I guess they were able to work out a deal with the different regional programming peeps. Cool....thanks for sharing that with us, it will be interesting to see what shows hit Sunday nights. I agree I think Dynasty and Riverdale would work nicely on Sundays.

I think what this really means is that Supernatural is going to run for 754 seasons and the Arrowverse shows are all going to get renewed indefinitely, until the lead(s) decide not to sign new deals (they're all signed for seven season contracts, so that's probably the minimum at this point)

I agree, I think they can start fairly high but will probably settle in that rating. I don't the CW is worried about that, they have such a niche audience and they know their audience and the advertising shows that.....the advertisers know probably more specifically who is watching these shows than any of the other networks.....so they know their ads are hitting exactly the audience they want.

I'm a horrible DC fan, I binge all of them on Netflix except for Supergirl....HOWEVER, I don't have a Nielsen Box, so my waiting doesn't matter...lol

What's cool about binge watching is you can actually watch them in a proper order (see here: http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=538707 ) and treat them like one big show. The crossovers end up feeling much more organic when you do it that way in my opinion.

Often times even when the shows air in the same week, the smaller non-event crossovers don't line up. Stuff that happens in episode 10 of one show will connect directly to episode 13 of another because of the different production schedules and what-not.

I use Blu Rays but streaming is easy too. Between CW Seed, Youtube, and Netflix you can watch literally the entire Arrowverse besides the tangentially-related 90s Flash show for free.

I love binge watching.....in the summers I can usually get anywhere from 7 to 10 episodes a day in...so I can have a season of a show done in 2 - 3 days easy.

Hmmm...LoT's pulling a .4, both last week against Olympics and now this week against SG's usual competition. Hopefully they advertise the hell outta SG's return and it does better, but there's a part of me that thinks the CW may have hurt both shows with this weird scheduling.
