BvS All Things Batman v Superman: An Open Discussion (TAG SPOILERS) - Part 302

So I just found a wickedly good quality torrent so I'm re-doing my edit of the film (I know..some frown upon making edits and torrenting just...okay?) What do are your thoughts on having the film end on the "seek his monument, look around you" shot of the grave? Then end credits is the Batman/Lex prison scene, but I've ended the scene when Bats punches the wall.
is this a yay or nay?

 

My re-edit is going to be the best re-edit in the world.

It's going to make your head spin.

 

I'm removing it completely. But as an end credits scene, that would totally work.

What are your bigger changes? Mine is I've cut the whole African subplot, I know people won't like that but I know some will.

 

I'm keeping it. I hate keeping it, but Lois was just so hands on with everything that it wouldn't make sense with what happens when Lex kidnaps her.

But I am still cutting a bunch in terms of that particular subplot.

My big one, and I hate to do this because I love it so much, but I am removing the opening credits sequence. I loved the opening credits sequence, but I have better place for it.

I am intercutting it with Martha revelation after the big fight so it mirrors the shooter with Bruce. It's going to be tricky with the titles and all, but I'm trying. Imagine seeing that highly-stylized origin being told for the first time in THAT scene. I think it would've been powerful.

And don't get me wrong. I'm a big "Martha" defender. It totally worked for me when I saw it, but I want to experiment.

 

And I was just kidding about mine being better! hahaa Oh god. Mine is for my indulgence sake.

Didn't get a chance to respond to a comment about my finding the voice over while Superman was doing his "good acts" (some being pretty clunky) to be dumb... It was dumb because it was an inappropriate time for such a thing. But, it makes sense since Snyder clearly thinks that very single thing Superman does must be criticized and that he just can't win. If you don't see it, that's your problem.

 

Yeah I had to cut some of Lois and Lex dialogue on the rooftop but it still works because Lex says that the easiest way to get to Superman is Lois.

I cut the opening sequence too, it's such an awesome scene, up until the bats lift Bruce, I know it's a dream but it still feels cheesy to me. And you see enough of it in that Martha scene to get what happens but I'm keen to see you pull that off! Especially with the credits.
I tried cutting the opening with the scene where Bruce preps with the fight but it didn't really work.

I've cut the film down to 1hr58 minutes btw, so I can't wait for the Ultimate Cut!

 

I think two hours is good cap.

 

What software do you use for movie editing ?

Edit: Bats punching the wall is important, to show his character progression.

 

Opening scene of Bruce's parents getting shot ? It's important to connect the dots to Martha scene.

 

But we see the nearly the whole scene plus her grave in that scene.

I'd want to see your version for sure. As soon as I walked out of the theatre, I thought to myself, if they just cut out the Africa stuff and some of the dream sequences it would have been a stronger narrative...

 

Don't say that. He can still be salvaged.

 

I don't see how, at this point. No amount of storytelling wizardry could bring Clark Kent back to life in a justifiable way, so half of the character's appeal is gone (unless they jump into a new continuity).

Superman has been mostly mute by now as well, so I don't see his personality evolving very far beyond what it was in MoS and BvS.

 

Not by Snyder and certainly not by WB, lol. We'll see, though. Maybe WB will have learned their lesson the next time the reboot Supes, but I'm not holding my breath.

 

The Cavill version of Superman has stench attached to it and I doubt they'll be able to really get it off with Cavill and Snyder being attached.

Imo, you would basically need a new actor and a reboot of the Superman universe . There's no "starting fresh" with the Snyder version imo.

If it were up to me ,I would prefer they reboot Superman in his own universe and continuity with a new actor, separate from whatever DCCU is trying to do and just

leave the Cavill version dead

in the DCCU.

Alot of fanboys wouldn't like it ,and WB is in too deep to do that, but that's what I think would be best for the character and his stories going forward.

 

Something I just thought of with the Batmobile chase. The people Batman killed were not in the act of harming someone or even committing some serious crime.

That's disturbing. But you know "this is a lost Batman who's lost his way so bad that he kills innocent people and Superman will show Batman the light".

 

yeah I have this copy and have some thoughts on a re-edit but I'm going to wait on the 3 hour cut before I go to any trouble of editing my version.

 

What? They had guns and RPG launchers. They weren't innocents. These were the same mercs who killed those people in Africa.

 

But they were just transporting cargo. We have no idea if they are or aren't the same mercs in Africa. Nothing confirms that other than they work for Lex but Bats doesn't know they are the mercs.
