BvS All Things Batman v Superman: An Open Discussion (TAG SPOILERS) - - - - - Part 306

I couldn't agree more with every one of these comments. Some people really try to defend aspects of this movie that are objectively bad.

I mean, critics prove it. BO proves it. Fans' reactions prove it, general audiences' reactions prove it.

The thing that will always puzzle me is how come there was so much hype for this even after all the negative aspects of MoS. People forgot about MoS and instantly hyped BvS as the next best thing ever? Even though Snyder was known to be the director for the very beginning?

And I can't believe how much attention the movie still gets, nearly a year after release. Until recently there were still BTS photos released. I mean what?

I really liked the film and was also blind by hype when I went to see it, but after 3 viewings at the cinema (in the very first week) and one viewing of the UC, I've grown to dislike some aspects of it throughout the months. And the negatives outweight the positives for me, unfortunately.

Well said.

People saying a cyborg Batvoice is more Batman-ish than a growly one? :funny:

Depends on how growly.
After Bale pretty much lost his voice, CollegeHumor cemented that ridicule.

Bale's voice is like sweet music compared to robot Bat voice.

Best not to rely on those because their consensus is it's "ok" and contributed to some remarkably high video sales.

Money is not indicative of quality.

Transformers 2, 3, and 4 made boatloads of money, Smurfs, Grownups, POTC4 made boatloads as well. :loco:

That's why I said you shouldn't rely on those.
BvS not only made money, it also made some of the highest gains in video sales comparable to Star Wars, apparently.
The sampled audience rating going off whichever aggregate site gave it a passable average or a divisive score depending on how those algorithms work.

Possibly because the reviews were so bad that many people like me decided to wait until it came out on video at before seeing it.

Yeah, you had ~$200 mil in presold tickets + the actual run + and then 2 straight months of topping the charts

Which could be attributed to literally nothing else noteworthy coming out, and that this is the first time we see the two on screen together. Money was never going to be a problem.

Maybe people wanted the Ultimate Cut in the desperate hope it delivered some semblance of a good movie. Sadly it didn't.

Why buy it when you could watch it on TV and not waste money? If the UC sold well, then maybe it had legs, as they say, because of some of the new praise it garnered and word of mouth from those who saw it.

The UC hasn't been put on tv, as far as I know.

That is not what I said. I made two separate comments. First, why buy (and I'll be explicit) the TC if it's on TV? And second, healthy sales of the DVD (TC/UC) can be attributed to several factors some of which could include enjoyment of the film in theaters or praise (word of mouth) for the UC. To brush it off as merely curiosity doesn't seem fair.

The UC fixes a bit of Superman's narrative and improves the flow of the movie, but it doesn't fix its fundamental flaws.

The Martha scene is still there, the weird editing and cuts are still there, Superman's needless sacrifice is still there, Granny's Peach Tea is still there, the convenient plot aspects are still there, Eisenberg's abysmal acting is still there and the LOTR Cave Troll/Big Boss CGI Battle is still there.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion even if people forget as such in threads like this.

BvS Ultimate Cut is an amazing movie, it gets better and better on each viewing. It's not my favourite of the DCEU thus far (Man of Steel is) but in terms of my top ten CBMs from the modern era it's in the top 5 of that. The UC even at 30 mins longer flows better than the theatrical edition and the additional material really boosts the movie.

Ghost dad, 'no-one stays good in this world', nonsensical Knightmare, Flash time-travel dream/not dream, Jimmy's murder, lack of establishing shots (we have no idea what The Planet looks like), individual moments instead of an actual story, murderery Batman...

...the list goes on and on. Time will not be kind to this movie.

Yeah, totally had forgotten about those. Knightmare was so cool when i watched it, but then i re-thought.. what was the point of this scene beside setting up JL? No context, nothing... e-mail JL footage also comes to mind...

But yeah... #darkcolors #deepness #dingdingding #philosophicalmeaning #BTSphotos so it's all good.

Seeing as how the entire film is about Bruce worrying about Superman going unchecked, the Knightmare sequence, while jarring and awkwardly inserted into the film, isn't exactly irrelevant to the film.

Yep, it's placement is the only real problem for me, it should have been just before Bruce goes to fight/kill Superman to take away any doubts Bruce has about what he is going to do.

I still find the Martha part of the movie to be great. Like, I don't understand the hate. Like, Snyder just wanted a funny moment in the movie, is all. not like he was trying for it to be serious. Right? RIGHT???!?!?

I hadn't thought of that, but I think you're right.
