On an unrelated note, I found myself re-watching the Bruce and Alfred scenes yesterday and enjoyed them once again. Dawn of Justice has its issues, both theatrical and Ultimate Cut, but I think the stuff it did well, it did really well, and I think they did a good job with the Bruce/Alfred dynamic.

Granted, that'd be hard to screw up and I don't see how even Snyder could screw up a dry, sardonic British butler, but the more I watch these scenes, the more I like Jeremy Irons' take on Alfred.

This, by far, is my favorite Bruce/Alfred dynamic. Overall, it just feels more 'real', alive and natural than past portrayals of their relationship.

Wow that's impressive. I've always wished I had that capability, I have the exact opposite of perfect pitch, though, like being able to tell what key a song is in or recognizing notes by ear. Comes naturally to some people

I agree, I love the dynamic as well, I also really appreciated the dynamic between Bale's Bruce and Caine's Alfred. Any other incarnation outside of the comics just hasn't felt authentic to me.



I love seeing an Alfred who is hands on, gets involved, working on Bruce's gadgets, patching him up, being his home base that he communicates with on missions. I think there's a lot that BvS gets right, that they don't get credit for.

My one very small critique is the age difference. If we were going by the actors, Alfred is 68 and Bruce is 44, meaning Alfred was 24 when Bruce was born, and presumably had a close relationship with Thomas Wayne beforehand for a long enough period that Wayne trusted Alfred to be Bruce's caretaker in the event of their deaths, not to mention there's the implication Alfred had some experience in the theater and you would think the military and medical training as well. Just kinda weird that Alfred would be in that position of butler, caretaker, and Bruce's godfather at age 24, and how long had he known Thomas Wayne before that? By contrast, Caine's Alfred would have been 41 when Bruce was born, which fits the role much better.


Very minor nitpick though, and it's not implausible, and much different than any incarnation of the character before. You'd think Alfred would be at least Thomas Wayne's age, if not, older. They could also just add some years to Alfred's character, say he's mid to late 70's, which would at least put him in his 30's when he became Bruce's parent. Im thinking too much about it, I know. Minor nitpick that's worth it for the great casting.

He really has- the man has been in just about everything. Including Dawn of Justice, there's Midnight Special, Elvis and Nixon, Nocturnal Animals...heck, he even had a small appearance in Loving as well near the end of the film.

It's his year.

Has this video been posted already? A very interesting take on Batman's murderous ways in the movie. Doesn't seek so much to come up with a conclusion as to whether it's right or not, just seeks to contextualise it properly. Very good video.

Well, idk, some people would like it, I'm not saying it's a bad film, just that I wasn't a fan, wasn't that big on Michael Shannon's casting as Elvis and he didn't really convince me that he was Elvis, just a caricature, but I guess that may have been the point. It's got a 6.5 on IMDb
