I'm still sort of mystified why Affleck took this role. I mean after years and years, his career had finally recovered. Affleck was seen as this legitimate director and filmmaker now. He said he would never take a role like Daredevil ever again. And then this. Affleck was at a point in his career where he really didn't need to do things like Batman anymore.
He's a casual Batman fan, he wanted to redeem himself for Daredevil, he thought the Snyder take was cool, comic book movies-- Batman in particular-- were/are the biggest things in Hollywood. Plus, however many millions of dollars.
I can see the appeal.
Ben Affleck once made a replica Batcave entrance in his house, director Kevin Smith has revealed.
The filmmaker, who has worked with Ben on six films including Dogma and Jersey Girl, admitted that he was surprised by the Oscar-winning star's love for the caped crusader when he bought his old home.
Kevin told the Hollywood Babble-On podcast: "His house, that I would end up buying, when I first saw it, he was touring me through the place and said, 'Come here, I gotta show you my room'.
"He brings me into the room and goes, 'Look at this'. There's an office room and this beautiful bookcase - he reached under and he clicked something and all of a sudden, the bookcase opened."
He continued: "I was like, 'No! You built a ******* Batcave?' And he was like, 'No, I built a Batcave entrance!' When you went in behind the bookcase, it was a panic room."
The director said that Ben, who previously portrayed superhero Daredevil in the 2003 film, was the ideal actor to portray Batman in the Man Of Steel sequel because of his passion for the comic-book character.
The director - who wrote the Batman: Cacophony and Widening Gyre books for DC Comics - added: "This dude has loved Batman going as far back as I can remember....He'll honour the character. I honestly think the dude's a great actor, it makes absolute sense."

They are waiting for Ben to stop playing To be or Not to be [in the Batman]. He's almost done with plucking out the leaves from the dart.
This is why, If you want to make a shared universe, you need someone at the top like Feige in charge.
I cannot fathom why anyone thought that having an old, veteran Batman was a good idea for a character that surely, you want for a new Batman trilogy and JL trilogy.
It just shuts the door on so many potential stories. Imagine if Thor had started off as King Thor in the first movie. Eye missing,Mjolnir already destroyed.
Start Batman at his most simple and basic. Then you have so much more leeway.
Maybe he saw what was happening over at Marvel and wanted to be part of something similar.
Yeah, except for being part of movies instead of TV.Like Daredevil?t:

Yeah, remember Affleck used to be really good buddies with Kevin Smith and they had some shared interests, one of which I'm pretty sure was comics/superheroes. Back during his Daredevil days, I remember thinking Affleck seemed to be a genuine longtime fan of the source material and Frank Miller in particular, and was really into the darker comics, which meant he was also likely a huge Batfan. I'm guessing he said yes to being Batman because honestly, what fanboy could resist? And he figured CBM's had come a long way since DD so the chances of it working out were much better.
I think based on what else I read here, it's a deep childhood love for Batman, and he probably really thought he could pull it off this time.

It's actually a pretty interesting video. They interviewed Richard Rushfield of "The Ankler" who's an insider apparently.
He basically says that WB is in a flux with the AT&T deal on the horizon and they are all nervous cause the new bosses are likely to clean house when they take over. Also the prospect of the deal falling apart will lead to another new buyer.
Also, all the leaks that we are seeing are because people are unsure about their future and feel unappreciated plus the shoots haven't been pleasant.
He says that Affleck is more than likely not starring in Reeves's Batman.
Also that there are two factions in the DC camp, one that wants the shared universe and the other who doesn't.
He believes that The Batman is far off. If also says that the shared universe really depends on the next few movies.
BUT everything is subject to change depending on the AT&T deal and whether it goes through or not.
So basically WB is just as lost as we are.

It would be good if they could get the shared universe, but it needs to be done right. Whether we like, or dislike the current DCEU, I think everyone can agree that it's been rushed with no clarity as to where they (WB/DC) want to go.[YT]PE2JFvMMbdw[/YT]

Other than Matt Reeves WB has a tendency to draw from within their own talent pool. Gary Ross is directing Ocean's 8 for WB. He was once supposed to be involved with the Spider-Man universe long ago. He has some experiencing directing a franchise film in the Hunger Games. If WB feels good internally about Ocean's 8 I wouldn't be surprised if they look at him.
Because he liked Zack's take on the character. I think it's really that simple.I'm still sort of mystified why Affleck took this role. I mean after years and years, his career had finally recovered.
