I wish we could just get confirmation on if Leto is coming back or not. I would imagine that coming back would be embarrassing for him after the response to his performance, and the choice to go with a different actor for the solo Joker film.

Doesn't WB already have their own successful example with Wonder Woman being intro'd into BvS (to favorable reception) before her solo film?

The difference is this time they want the actual movie introducing her to get favorable reception as well.:funny:

But more seriously that is what I'm thinking. Civil War to Black Panther is a more successful example of what they're going for.

I just hope Harley isn't the lead. Let the actual BoP lead this movie.

With SS2 being pushed back, I’m convinced more than ever the Phillips/Joaquin Joker movie is taking precedence and WB will wait it out to see which interpretation audiences cater to.

If I were a betting man, Leto is as likely to return in the role as Affleck is to his.

Or you know, what DC did with Wonder Woman in BVS. But of course we must mention Marvel lol

Scrap SS2, Joker and Harley, and any Jared Leto Joker project.

I'm not really clamoring for a Batgirl movie, a Birds of Prey movie with Harley and Batgirl being the leads would be enough for me. But I'd go see a Batgirl movie for sure.

Well one of them is generally considering to a good movie by most, and the other isn't.

Because in Marvel's case, the example was way more successful. Wonder Woman was considered cool in spite of Batman v. Superman; Black Panther was considered one really cool thing in a movie people already thought was awesome and responded well to.

If you're making a comparison, you'd much rather say "We think Birds of Prey could be the next Civil War" than "We think Birds of Prey will be Batman v. Superman all over again."

I was more up for Gotham City Sirens, but Birds of Prey are cool.

This is such a directionless mess. First we're getting a Harley movie, or a Harley + Joker movie, then Gotham City Sirens, then that's scrapped along with the solo Batgirl film apparently, then Suicide Squad 2 is still going ahead only for it now to not be a priority, now we have this Harley lead Birds of Prey film. WB have no idea what the hell they want to do with Margot Robbie. As for the director, there's a trend in Hollywood now to take indie directors and get them to do bigger budget movies whilst putting them on a very short leash so they do exactly what the studio wants, and this screams that. At this point all you can do is shrug your shoulders.

Honestly, anyone who thought Spielberg would take on a flagship comic-book property was setting themselves up for disappointment. Like I hope people weren't seriously hanging their hat on that idea. This is the same man who's convinced that the CBM genre will fizzle out and go the way of the Western before long.

Blackhawk is a WW2 pulp adventure. It's right in his wheelhouse.

Pulp adventure is definitely Spielberg's playground.

Right. Because YOU don't know their plans, they surely have no idea what they want to do with Margot Robbie.

Right.

Whoever said that Batgirl was scrapped?

The Blackhawks is a pretty perfect concept for Spielberg. And the movie will doubtless provide an opportunity for any number of "era specific" characters to show up. And who knows, maybe their friend Wonder Woman will stop by to wish them luck. Vandal Savage for the villain, methinks.

It’s just annoying that a property no one even remotely cares about gets Steven f’n Spielberg and THE Superhero remains in absolute limbo. Just annoying is all.

I wonder what could ever make one assume WB don't plan things well.

So weird we get a no name for Birds of Prey which features some of DC’s most important characters, and then Spielberg for a movie about Z-listers that no one wants to see

I'm not interested in the past. I'm interested in what it looks like they're doing moving forward. In other words, the current plan.

I don't see how Birds of Prey or its inclusion is remotely directionless in context. Especially when the direction is mentioned in the articles announcing it (help to intro Batgirl prior to a solo).

Aside from the obvious connection to SUICIDE SQUAD with Harley Quinn, there's a clear desire at WB to make films featuring the characters of the Batman mythos. In various stages of development over the last year or two, there's been:

THE BATMAN
BATGIRL
NIGHTWING
THE JOKER
BIRDS OF PREY
GOTHAM CITY SIRENS
HARLEY/JOKER

How is a film that fits RIGHT into that, and maybe even provides an effective launching point for other related films evidence of WB being "directionless"?

What you're talking about is more or less having faith regardless of their previous attempts.

Rather than taking a critical eye on their ability to plan a slate of films that can cohesively work themselves into a larger narrative.

But there's nothing there for us to say whether this new attempt will work or not... so I assume you take the blind faith path--that this will work out in the end.
