All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - - Part 11

Hello everyone! It's nice to meet you all here. Been a Superman fan ever since I was about 4 or 5 years old. I'm a long time reader of the The SuperHeroHype Forums but I finally caved and decided to join the forums! I've seen most of the Superman incarnations. Christopher Reeve and George Reeves are the best IMHO. I tried to get into Smallville, but it wasn't meant to be. Superman Returns ranks as a big disappointment. Definitely looking forward to Man of Steel! Well, that's about all that might be of moderate interest. I look forward to making some new friends and having some great discussions about the greatest Superhero!
Cheers, Bran

Hey man. Glad you decided to join. Welcome to the Hype!

Welcome Bran, hope you find it good here

Which was based on this Alex Ross painting. So in all likelihood WB marketing/Snyder were using this as a reference.

Yeah, even the body type and hair they went for for Superman this time around screams Alex Ross.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I like the teaser poster a lot.

I really dig the poster, I remember when this awesome manip showed up and I wanted the official one to be just like that.

Are we getting a different poster with the trailer since that was a ComicCon poster?

They really need to move beyond the backlit Superman stuff. Show some Zod/Krypton and Superman/Earth style posters.

Yahoo home page ran an article about the MOS footage

after TDKR's buzz wears down in the coming weeks, i expect WB marketing to fire on all cylinders with MOS stuff

Totally agreed and is definitely an attention grabber for GA audiences if this baby is put up in theaters.

Definitely, I was abit worried about the film been called Man of Steel with the GA not knowing what it was but that poster says it all.

Meh, I think most people know who you're talking about when you say the Man of Steel, at least in the U.S. I'd say it's a much more well-known nickname for Superman than the Dark Knight is for Batman, and people had no problem there.

I know what you mean but it has to be promoted to show exactly what it is alot of people I know when I say Man of Steel ask what it is.

Yeah, I don't think the general audience know that nickname that well.

The last time it was used outside comics was what? The Fleischer cartoons?

"Mild-mannered newspaper reporter" is probably more well known.

Man of steel was always a description for supes even in the previous movies. mild mannered reporter not so much

I'm on about the GA though they're not as tuned up as we are

one thing i do truly like about the new suit: there aren't a barrage of "S"s on the pattern of the suit :)

Really? The vast majority of people I associate with know both nicknames, and none of them are Superman or comicbook fans.

I'm not saying all the GA but a majority of them won't know what Man of Steel is by the title alone.

I agree. They might think Man of Steel is about a robot or something until they see the S logo.

That might be one of those factoids they know because of you.

Like I'm not a sports fan but my brother is so I kind of absorbed a bunch of facts and knowledge just by being around him.

The people I associate with are the ones who will say David Banner is the Hulk so I know that they know the tv show even though I know they've seen all of the modern Hulk apperances and he's not referenced as that.

I think after this weekend that won't be a problem. And by June 2013 everyone will know exactly who the Man Of Steel movie is about. :cwink:
