WB's ´´marketing`` for this has been...strange, so far. To say the least. I remember back in June I was saying it's weird nothing is being done yet, but there was still a lot of ´´it's a year away, it's too soon`` arguments back then. Well, 4 months later I see the same arguments, it's too soon, supposedly. Well, by the time WB decides to do something, it might be a bit too late.
I am fully aware that they have to ´´build up`` the hype and not peak early, but they aren't even building up to anything, when they should be building awareness and hype. But even the start of the marketing has been weird. An underwhelming teaser, when they had a far more superior one, and an underwhelming teaser poster and almost 3 months since then, NOTHING. Not even a few stills, which all films usually get by the time the first teaser hits.
I guess we won't be getting anything by December because WB will want to keep all the focus on The Hobbit. But by the time WB will finally decide to properly begin the marketing (Im guessing February) they will have a bit of company in the form of Iron Man 3 and quite a few other ´´big`` movies that will be coming out in May/June. So instead of starting a bit early, while the other movies are doing nothing, they do nothing as well.
I also wonder what (if anything) we'll get in December. I have a feeling that due to the very positive reaction that the Comic-Con teaser got, we'll get that but just re-arranged a bit.
WB is either very (overly) confident in their product or they have no clue how to promote or present it. Either way, they are doing a bit of gambling by keeping things TOO secretive, imo. There is a fine line between showing too little and too much and MOS is deep in the too little pool. They can't afford such secrecy when nobody in the GA gives a damn about the character.
Well, I just hope they'll be happy with ´´mediocre`` numbers. I can't see this making more than 450 WW at this point.
