All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 2

wonder woman, flash, and captain marvel need to happen.

I don't think it was weak but I definitely agree on the whole montage thing, felt like a long trailer for a good portion of the film.
If McAvoy and Fassbender weren't in it, it would've been pretty weak though.

mcavoy and fassbender were both good. so was the kid that played banshee, he was great. the dude that played beast was also quite good (though, he was at a loss once he mutated...there was no acting through that crap ass costume/makeup).

Here's the difference between Superman Returns and Transformers. In Superman Returns, even if they wanted to make a sequel, and even if the money was there, I think they would find it hard to make something out of the situation the last movie left the characters in. More specifically, the whole kid and Lois' family situation. That's a bad situation for Superman to be in, as in any resolution he ends up screwed in some way.

Well, I could say the same for The Dark Knight. Pretty bad situation. Batman can either be fugitive forever or to admit he lied to everybody and break Gotham's spirit when they know Dent was corrupted into a cold-blooded killer. It's a lose-lose situation. So it's pretty hard to imagine a good resolution, does that mean they can't do a sequel?

Compare that with Transformers. Two of the worst things about the last one were the Twins. They were annoying side characters. You know what happened to the Twins? They were cut out. No more Twins.

That's the difference between stupid movies like Transformers and stupid movies like Superman Returns. With Transformers its the little details, but audiences liked the overall picture. So cut out the bad little details and things are fine.

With Transformers are little details, yes. Little details like script, acting, dialogues, story, character development, etc. You can fix that in a jiffy.

But, as you say, people liked it, that means money, that means sequel. Wasn't that my original point? That it didn't make enough money?

Its also why I think Fox went after X-Men prequels after X3. How do you make a sequel after all the heroes except Halley Berry and Wolverine are dead?

Bring on some of those dozens of characters that haven't been used before?

Similarly, how do you make a sequel to Superman Returns that fixes the problems people saw in the first movie when you have to have some of those same problems in the sequel to maintain continuity?

It'd be tiresome to try and imagine how many opossibilities are. Buyt come on, good stories are about poutting our hero in difficult situations. Again, TDK. The notion that if the situation is too difficult it should be dropped is absurd.

I hate to say it because I did like SR. But they would have had to have Lois leave her fiance, kill Jason and get a new actress to play Lois give him a new suit(or update it) and give the movie a different feel.

Well, Lois was never in love with Richard to start with. That was stated even before we saw Lois in the movie. I'm not sure why you say Jason has to be killed. And well, they re-cast Rachel Dawes after BB.

At least with transformers the cgi is flawless cant say that for SR. I did love this movie but I cant stand up for it at all cost.

Can't think of one example where good CGI alone has made a good movie.

The new suit!!

I find that cover rather... forgettable. Really, just... forgettable.

And maybe it's just the presentation here, but the suit looks worse than what I'd hoped for. It looks like a weird mash-up of Superman and a Superman knock-off. Also, call me crazy, but the costume looks more retro to me than the ol' Classic threads, as if it were yet another attempt at a "Superman in the future" concept circa 1996.

The new suit!!

Looks like Tony Stark had a hand in creating the suit.
Let's call him Iron-Superman!

Nolan seems to like armor. How many fanboys want to bet that this is the suit (or something very close to it) that Cavill will wear?

Think it over...do you really believe that at the moment when Nolan, Snyder and co. are nearing the time to release a pic of the suit they will use that DC is going to create a totally different suit independently?
I don't think so.
IMO, THIS is the new suit in the comics and the movie.

kudos to bleedingcool.com, that's quite a scoop!

No but I think it gives a bad story a new life at a sequel. And I like Transformers 2 and SR. But I don't think CGI was the only problem with SR. For whatever reason there is a 50/50 split on who likes it and who doesn't. That's why no sequel.

that looks teeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiibbbbbbbbbbllllllllllllllllllle!!!!!! are you kidding me???

I think they rushed it too much!
They could have come up with something better for the cover of the first issue. Why is the suit different from the one in Justice League #1?

The new suit looks like Robo-Superman. :p

I knew I had seen something like this suit before,

I don't know man...maybe he is pulling a Batman and has multiple suits. But I do know that he's drawn by two different artists so that may account for something

That cover art sucks, but the suit looks fantastic.

I see nothing fantastic about that suit or the cover art...it's all bad news bears

im totally cool with the art. george perez still rules. but that suit is AWFUL!

Suit is a pile of sh.. hope its not the movie suit or anything resembling the movie suit.

It's the old suit with some lines on it, no trunks, a weird looking belt and a collar. It doesn't modernise it and it doesn't look any better either. What was the point?

I love the new suit

say it ain't so!!!!???? For them to be trying to modernize Superman that looks like something drawn in the 90's and I don't like all the pointless seams...they stick out too much. Not a fan here my friend

seriously, if this movie is titled MAN OF STEEL and they have him wearing god damn knee pads and armored boots....

dont even get me started on the pointless seams and stupid collar.

Dial it back a few notches with those kind of remarks.

For some reason, the lack of the red trunks draws even more attention to his crotch.

I love the new suit too. Especially the seams. He needed an update.

that's not even really that much of an update...like it was said before, it's the classic suit with lines on it, a high collar, a stupid looking belt, and ugly boots. This is a disaster that I hope is short lived. Bring back the old suit...

The new suit!!

I really don't get the logic behind any of the changes.

Why would Superman need knee pads? Why would Superman need what looks like a utility belt? And what the hell difference do pronounced seems and a high collar make anyway?

I'm not against change altogether, but this is just weird IMO.

Those don't look remotely the same...

Anyway, about the kneepads and the "Superman doesn't need kneepads!" thing. If they don't change the origin of the suit, it's based on fabric from Krypton, where Kryptonians can still be injured.
