I really don't get the logic behind any of the changes.

Why would Superman need knee pads? Why would Superman need what looks like a utility belt? And what the hell difference do pronounced seems and a high collar make anyway?

I'm not against change altogether, but this is just weird IMO.

it's not weird...it's stupid

Not weird, not stupid... just pointless... :cwink:

Why would he wear underwear over his pants? Why does he really need a cape?

Look, I'm not defending the new costume - I don't think it's necessary but it's really not that bad either - I'm just saying that superhero costumes typically have superfluous features. I'm just glad they didn't change it to the point where he's almost unrecognizable (like when he was Superman Blue) or eschew a cape in favor of a "Kick Me" sign like they did with Superboy.

My mom said that's not Superman...and my mom is never wrong and my lady friend just saw the photo and asked what it was...obviously this isn't flying with most people...

See, this is the biggest problem with Superman. People are always calling him old and dated and boring and yet if you change ONE thing like the costume, the fans unleash a tirade.

Maybe fans complained like this when they were updating the X-Men costumes every five minutes in the 90s, I don't know. Or maybe they WOULD have if the Internet was used as it is today. But regardless... it's just a costume, people. And I highly doubt ANYONE would look at that and not know it's Superman, unless it was someone completely unfamiliar with the character.

I don't like the new suit......hope it isn't used in the movie.

The design is not that bad. It's not great, but it's not horrible either. Still, i'd like to see the other ones that I know were created as well.
I'm kinda having the same reaction to this that I did to the SR suit, which was ''Meh, i'll take it I guess.''

people who complain about the suit dont read his comics

no one complained about the X-men costumes because they were always changing them...there are whole websites dedicated to the x-costumes

I agree.

First off, few people read ANY comics. Period. Second, I think that no one who complains about the suit reads Superman comics is a mighty big assumption to make without actual evidence to back it up.

1) Ask two people's opinions.

2) Assume that means everyone thinks the same way.

3) ???

4) Profit!

You know, I would have thought the whole, "The costumes must always be the same" argument for any superhero movie ever would have died in 2000 when X-Men came out and was fine despite having only black leather. Are we all still in that same mindset? Really? They can't try to improve on the costume after other movies have changed the costumes and been fine? Can someone really give me a reason why they can't do it that isn't some variation of, "But its Superman!"

those aren't the only people I showed...just the only women. All of my friends think it looks weird and they don't care for it. And if you call this monstrosity of a horse turd we got as improvement....wow. A blind monkey could do better I think

I don't like the new suit, though I'm not against change. But the changes here are just stupid... especially adding blue trunks.... what's the point?

I LOVE the Ultimate Superman costume. I wish they used this:

Looks iconic.

The new Jim Lee costume just looks like a 90s Superboy variation.

Also, it looks like Superman's eyes are now fixed red like Cyclops. I noticed this in the JL cover too.

I agree. I know I will get a lot of flak for this, but I love the Nolan Batsuits. Are they 100% faithful adaptations of the (typical) Batsuit from the comics? Hell no. Does it work as a Batsuit? Hell yes.

I'd much rather deviate from the comics and end up with something like this:

Than be faithful to the comics and end up with something like this:

Note: I am not saying that being faithful to the comics is automatically equal to a bad looking costume, I am just saying if I have to choose, I will go with a less than 100% faithful (but recognizable) costume that looks good.

As much as I rather not, I can accept a costume redesign. I just find this one to be pretty bad.

With that said I don't think the movie suit will look just like the comics relaunch suit, but I do kinda expect the trunks to be gone now.

Someone asked Jim Lee on Twitter why Superman needs knee pads.

Jim Lee answer was: "Read Action Comics and find out!"

Rumor is that Grant Morrison is the new writer of Action Comics, and they will probably confirm that this Friday.

It's far from being a great picture. Costume design may look better when we see a higher quality piece of art later on.

The only issue I have with it is that the belt looks a little cheap. But it might just be the picture, I don't know. Really, I think it just needs some yellow in there somewhere.

You know, I would have thought the whole, "The costumes can't work on screen" argument for any superhero movie ever would have died in 2002 when Spider-Man came out and was fine despite looking exactly like the comics. Are we still in that same mindset? Really? They can't try to adapt the costume after other movies have done so and been fine? Can someone really give me a reason why they can't do it that isn't some variation of, "What works in comics doesn't work on film"?

Oh, and by the way;

These beat black leather any day.

If there was a screenshot of Magneto in his classic comic costume from FC (at the end of the film) that we could use to show here, it would just be another example to prove this point, since from what I've read, there were MANY who thought that it was translated well and better received than the previous look.
