All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 3

I'd have been very very relieved if both the Nolan brothers had contributed to this script on a more active basis.

Touch up the dialogue, keep things well intertwined and have a slightly more riveting plot than the previous Superman films.

I like Goyer's work, but he's an idea man. His dialogue is erratic at best. Works well when mixed with other people's dialogue. Balances it out.

Hmmm, but if Jonathan Nolan already contributed why are they getting yet another writer? Do I smell a troublesome script?

I hope not, because the script is the aspect I'm worried about.

Things are never simple.

Lets just hope its like Batman 89. That had a bunch of rewrites and different writers, but it turned out for the best.

Yeah, I imagine the script is fine more or less, but maybe they just wanna be sure and that's why Johnstad is going through it, for possible polishing. And Johnstad has worked with Snyder before, so maybe he's doing some 300-similar stuff.
In any case, I doubt it's major rewrites.

Probably because Goyer has moved on to Godzilla now. He won't be around during production to handle rewrites, which happen all the time all the way through production.

Don't think there's anything to worry about.

I was thinking more why Johnstad was hired when Nolan already contributed. I'm guessing Nolan did that after Goyer had moved on.
It also kinda pisses me off that Goyer, who started the whole thing, would leave before finishing/nailing the script just to write friggin Godzilla! WTF!

But I'll stop worrying then.

isnt godzilla a wb film? if so, doesnt that say something about the confidence they have in the superman script, they wouldnt blindely hire him again.

isnt that how it always works. i cant imagine writers putting a stop to every script they have until their current script is made into a movie. Im sure he'll be available if they really need him but he pretty much did his part.

Well, not if they hire others to finish the script.

Maybe they're just being extra careful after what happened with GL.

Goyer totally needs to put Godzooky in the film lol.

He'll probably be there if Snyder decides a line doesn't sound right coming out of one of the actors, or something they do doesn't seem to fit. Most movies have writers there during production. It doesn't mean anything bad about the movie. Hell, Iron Man was filming and didn't even have a completed script at that point.

Ok, I'll sleep better then. :yay:

Btw, that sig... :woot:

Such a shame though.

I still loved Green Lantern. It's a shame there won't be a sequel, there's still one more Green Lantern movie than I ever thought I'd see though. So there's that.

But anyway, I'm getting off topic. Still excited as ever for Man of Steel!

Ditto. I'm not sure I've ever been this exited about a film before. It's ridiculous. I think it might be because I also had huge expectations about SR and got somewhat burned by it, so maybe that's why I'm that much more stoked about it this time. I'm expecting the movie we never got with SR. That and the fact I got my favorite man for the main-part.

I'm a big fan of everyone involved: Snyder, Nolan, Goyer, Cavill, the rest of the cast and the characters themselves. But if I had to choose one reason to be excited, one reason I want this movie in my life, one reason my ass will be in that seat at midnight:

i am also excited for him. thank good he is a good actor.

Ok, I wasnt expecting that, hehe. I was expecting Superman actually.

Have never seen Shannon in anything, so I'm pretty exited to see his performance, especially in this movie.

Look's like Zack has brought in his own writer Kurt Johnstad (his writing partner from 300), to rewrite the script:

Now that Goyer’s is off The Man of Steel and on to Godzilla, Snyder got Kurt Johnstad (whose his regular, go-to writer, including 300, that Last Photograph project that Bale’s attached to now originating from Snyder’s noggin and that 300 spin-off) to take over for rewrites. Jonah Nolan took a pass on it too.

Sounds like something I said.

He's not the only one who had a hand in the script. Christopher Nolan had heavy influence on the story early on and other writers took a pass on it. You'll hear who eventually unless they are "ghosting".

Awesome!!!

From the sounds of it, we're getting Birthright, mixed with a little Superman For All Seasons. They built a gas station in Plano, so I am assuming he will save the owner of the gas station as we saw in Superman For All Seasons.

I also personally think we are getting some influence from "Last Son" as well.

Man show....this is so exciting, but im tryna hold back from watching any set pics, i feel like it kind of ruins the experience, cause i wanna believe its real...dont you feel that way?
