Agreed. And honestly, if TDKR had come after BB, I don't think there would be these mixed feelings. It's just because TDK really really blew people's expectations up.

It was so well recieved critically, and considered so 'intelligent/serious' that when TDKR went back to a more similar tone to BB (especially in terms of allowing for silly comic book movie stuff), SOME people reacted like that was taking a step back in quality...

Whereas people like myself, preffered BB's tone in the first place, and where incredibly happy it brought back more of that sense of fun but on a bigger scale

It's a huge part of why I'm so excited for MoS, if Goyer and co strike gold like that again, but tailored towards Superman? I'm glad the cinema will be dark and loud because I'm going to be an emotional wreck in my seat t:

Begins first half is so good, but the second half just pulls it down below TDK for me. Sometimes. I change my mind about the order of these films a lot. TBH, if I can I just refer to them as TDK trilogy rather than splitting them up

I feel like we can almost make a mini documentary chronicling the LONG PERIOD that we've had to wait (and that we're still waiting upon) for the stuff that Warner Bros. releases regarding this film....

Begins for me was definitely the best of the series. His introduction as Batman at the docks is incredible and the scenes in the narrows look beautiful and stylish. I think its a perfect origin story.

The Dark Knight is excellent but I felt the ending dragged the film out (could have just gotten rid of the boats scene). I also think Batman isn't as intimidating as he was in the first film. The film is stolen by Heath Ledgers portrayal as the Joker though and in this one Bale's voice went abit OTT at times whereas it was more controlled in Begins.

The Dark Knight Rises was again a wonderful film but too many things bothered me. I thought it pretty much negated the end of the Dark Knight where Batman is on the run from the law. I would have loved to have seen an entire film based on Batman dealing with a villain and trying to keep the police at bay. Also I hated Bane's voice whoever made that decision needs a slap. I also don't like how Batman is barely in the film but the ending is very uplifting and as much as I didn't want it to end that way it was a great way to cap off a trilogy.

Knowing that Goyer wrote the script for MOS (with touch up work done by others) I can say I honestly feel Superman is in the safest hands. We have a perfect mix of Snyder, Goyer and Nolan on what is (in my opinion) the greatest superhero origin story there is.

I really want to see a documentary on all the unproduced Superman films. I mean I'm glad that guy is doing one on Superman Lives but there's so much more to the development hell on Superman films. Heck I'd even take a Crystal Lake Memories type book on the Superman films (inc unproduced)

Considering the wait for info, it is easy to believe for me. Every time I try to get into this, to get into the hype, it just goes dead.

Really? I freaking love that scene. I'd say it is one of the most optimistic (in terms of human character) moments in any superhero film. I mean, i'm a pessemistic person, so the whole thing felt totally unrealistic to me (I just wonder in reality if not one of those people on the boat would press the button) - but that's the point. It took a situation like that, and decided to show a world in which people are deep down good and moral.

And isn't that the point of a superhero film? To fill us with that childlike sense of optimism?

Yeah, that's pretty much the only thing I hate about it. Such a shame, cause Hardy using Hardy's voice (or even just a bit of an accent) would been just fine...

I hope we get a few OMG!! moments..kinda like we saw in S:TM, the scene where supes saves lois and the helicopter ( stills gives me chills),
or in SII when zod is in the DP, all looks lost, and the jw theme slowly starts to play, newspapers start to fly away in the wind, then we see supes fly in and land on the flagpole and asks zod,'' General, care to step outside''....I can remember just about breaking the armrests in the seat at the theater I was in when I saw that scene...I was that excited lol.

Everything I've seen and heard about the portrayal of Superman so far in the movie is that it's awesome and he kicks ass and it's the first time he's been done "true justice" on film. "This is Superman" people have said, and that it captures the awesomeness of the Superman of the comics but puts it in movie language. That's been pretty consistent in every "review" or footage description we've heard so far, and I think that's awesome and truly hope that that is the case.`

I don't need a Superman that can sneeze and blow out a solar system but the one with power levels in the current comics would be great. Even as he was portrayed in JLU. Tas/JL season 1 was okay but I felt like they let him get "hurt" too "easily". Used to really bug me as a kid despite how much I loved those shows.

I think the blowing out Solar Systems is not a terrific image for the character..and to not have that makes a lot of sense.

But to make a character that is iconically powerful and one of the most powerful characters in the universe..does make sense.

Superman should not be God..or god..or even close. He is an individual..
But perhaps he is on the level of a supernatural being..I can wrap my mind around that quite readily.

In fact there have been the science of Superman analysis done and each one that I have read clarifies that Superman defies scientific understanding.

So, why try to conform him into it..let's just have an awesome..beyond the natural..or supernatural character as he is meant to be.

The original intention of Superman was just that he was a Super Man, stronger, faster and more agile than even the best human. His power levels over the years did get ridiculous but you can do something interesting with that like they did in All Star Superman. Unfortunatly though you can't do a lot with it and I do think Superman needs to be more relatable in the films. I think a depowered version is the best way to go. I'm not saying depower him to a level where he can die quite easilly or anything. But he doesn't have to be god like, I think Superman TAS got it pretty spot on. We know on that show from episodes like Legacy that when he is pushed he can reach extreme levels of power, kind of like how we can run faster than normal when our adrenaline is pumping. So I hope of course he's not too powered down but I don't think its a bad thing if a huge explosion could knock him unconscious at all. It would kill a normal human but only knock out a Superman. I think that level is fine and if he's pushed in the film he should be able to do more.

This is always expected out of a Superman movie (and all DC movies.)

Snyder working on a A-lister with a solid script for once(his weakest area).
Expect to keep hearing positive feedback, it's forgone conclusion imo.

Everything in Begins was pretty great on paper. Watching how the amazing Bruce Wayne actually took out that ninja school on the other hand...it would be like watching snake eyes stumble through a scene and having the place blow up before he is outclassed. This just kept happening throughout the movie.

I'm hoping the power and execution of what superman is and can do survives the adaptation from script to screen in this outing.

Bane's voice was awesome, in my opinion. Hardy, instead of going the conventional route, chooses an aristocratic accent. It was unexpected, and I loved it.

Agreed. My friends and I always mimic his voice. It's one of the memorable things from that movie. Bane was like a beefed up James Bond villain IMO lol.

I don't think that was it, or that it had much to do with the CBM tone. It's just that TDKR allowed itself much too often the kind of stuff that had people scratching their heads. Still, I think its third act pretty much redeems it all around, and the conclusion is amazing and poignant. That's why I don't want Bale in JL. Why untie that neat bow? Just ecause they need a recognizable face for JL to open well? Eff no.
