I felt this was an important point, so I have made a thread for this. Merge if necessary.

I actually love the new suit, I think it's a modern and fresh update while still being classic. But I'm not happy with the hair or the loss of the undies.

But that aside, apparently the logo Superman wears is that of the Earth 2 Superman, a Superman in an alternate reality where things are slightly different.

So does this mean the film will be based in Earth 2, or have they just drawn inspiration from that design. Which seems weird because it's closely associated with another dimension. Remember, WB did say they were looking at this as a one movie deal - to begin with.

And due to the lawsuit, is this how they may try and get away with not including certain things - by saying it's an alternate Universe?

Snyder was quoted saying that they're making this movie as if there had been no Superman movies prior to this one. plus, this is WB's last chance at a successful Superman franchise. so no this isn't an alternate reality.....or if it is, then it's as alternate of a reality as Batman Begins was.

It's just a stylistic choice. I find the Earth-Two \S/ easier to draw, myself. I can't draw the standard \S/ unless I draw the negative spaces like Byrne says he does. Not that I am any sort of artist at all, but I'm sure most of us have doodled the \S/...hopefully not when we're supposed to be taking notes in class, however....

I had a guy tell me that he though Superman "Red Son" would have made a good feature film. I don't necessarily agree with him, but I do think they could make that a good animated feature........

Yeah me too. Warner Bros. handling of the DC animated films is just spectacular. I still need to see All-Star Superman.

I'd also like to see some kind of adaptation for Earth One in the future. That was a really well told story.

Well, simply by virtue of it being a new version it is already automatically in an "alternate reality" from any other version of Superman, be it comics, live-action, or animation. Now as far as it drawing some inspiration from the Earth-2 continuity beyond just the symbol, probably not too much if any. I imagine we'll have the Daily Planet rather than the Daily Star. We KNOW we're getting Perry White rather than George Taylor. I'm sure if Lex Luthor shows up he'll be a bald corporate tycoon rather than a mad scientist-type with a full head of red hair. Although I will say that just the look on Superman's face in the pic kinda makes me wonder if his personality will be portrayed a little closer to his sorta "two-fisted champion for the little guy" self of the early Golden-Age. He really looks "no-nonsense", like he's ready to seriously kick some ass.

I cannot help but shake this feeling this movie will end up like TIH.

I hope not. I want this movie to be great and really it with me as a fan and the audience.

Granted, I don't want anything as cheesy or campy like films such as Spiderman 3, GL, or the Fantastic Four Series, but I don't want MOS to be as dark and grim like Snyder's previous films (Watchmen, 300).

If anything, I'd say that the perfect tone for this film would be something similar to the likes of Captain America, where it has a good balance of everything.

If Superman is presented as being too dark of a person, then what's the point of calling him as that beacon of hope that he's been known to be?

Not so much the same case on our side I'm afraid. Films like Captain America has proven that critics and GA's wouldn't mind seeing heroes who aren't Anti-Hero like, or are inspired by angst or some other type of drama to be heroic.
Superman was THAT hero that was the type of person who did good things simply because he had a compassionate heart. In fact, that's what makes Superman one of the rare heroes in not only DC Comics, but out of a lot of fictional heroes.

I really hope that in their process to "modernize" Superman, that they don't take away that from him.

I'm hoping that Cavill's words of Superman being presented in the film as who the character really is was accurate.
