All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 4

I think the Superman promo shot has left more questions of what to expect than anything else, in terms of look and tone.

I haven't really talked to anyone who is an average movie goer/casual fan in regards to the shot to guage what people outside of the hardcore nerd fans think.

Everyone I have talked to that isn't a hardcore Superman/Superhero nerd like myself and generally go and see a movie once maybe twice a month have loved the image. From a few people "Finally a Superman that actually means business!" or along those lines.

That's good to hear. I know the people I talked to a few months back that were casuals about Cavill did not have positive things to say when he was on the cover in EW. So if there are casuals who liked the photo that is good. I'm curious to see what people around my area have to say

I'm all up and ready for a portrayal of Superman where he's able to let loose on screen; my only worry is that the people in charge of the film lose sight of who he is as a character in order for Superman to become "modernized".

Case in point, if the general consensus goes on after the film is released that Captain America is more of a original goodwill hero than Snyder's Superman, then we're ****ed.

man how I miss 80's and 90's movie promotions...some of those old commercials were awesome...I miss them

It almost seems to me like using the golden age inspired logo instead of something ultra jagged or sleek is their way of saying they aren't obsessed with modernizing for the sake of modernizing and understand the character's roots.

Yeah, I LOVE that they went extremely retro with the symbol while updating the look of it to sort of cover it up.

Well as long as this film has some heart to it, then I'm good. I want something more than a 2 hour film that features nothing but cliche moments, shameless promotion, overdramatized situations, and mindless action sequences...so in other words, I don't want a Superman film that looks like it was directed by Michael Bay.lol

This film HAS to get the GA to root for Superman again in order for a franchise to even be possible.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh........ 2 years are to long to wait!!!!!!!! :D

seriously... wow can't believe it's really happening...

My daughter, who just turned 17, was passing by the monitor while I was on the hype. I was curious, so I showed her the pic of cavill in the new suit. Her reaction is she walked off was ''Kool''.
Thats High praise.

Is this movie going to be filming on location!?

Since there is no Smallville, Metropolis, or Krypton in reality...they will not be filming on location. :oldrazz:

So I thought I'd ask this since its been on my mind for a while.

I never watched Smallville much while it was on the air, just the occasional episode here or there and I always caught it somewhere in the middle so it never made sense. I've always felt guilty about never watching all of it and I'd like to start.

Should I start on any particular season? I think I got a good handle on the first season, but I don't know much after that. Is there a particular season to avoid for that matter?

If you've seen the first season, then I suggest you skip seasons 2-4, you could probably skip 5 as well, also, just forget about seasons 8 and 9, oh and 7 too. For season 10, just look at the screen caps from the finale, and that should be enough.
And, when you're finished skipping all those, start season one over again.

lol. Pretty much what I expected. Admittedly the only season that ever caught my eye was the Justice League stuff. I think I caught one episode with Hawkman dying in it. If it's not worth it then I'm definitely not gonna waste my time searching for the episodes.

What if the suit will actually be Jor-El's kryptonian suit that he puts in the escape-pod with Kal-El. Which could mean we might see Crowe in it.
Would be a nice touch IMO and an easy and obvious explanation.

It is psychological. That shadow covering the trunks area achieves the same effect the trunks did, breaking up the blue form. It still remains to be seen how this suit will be accepted once we see what is there instead.

I would love if we see Clark wearing red underwear properly for once. :awesome:

Smallville was good and entertaining (mostly) till about season 7. The last three seasons weren't good, they just annoyed me for the most part, although there were some good episodes every now and then. IMO they failed miserably at doing the adult years.
The second half of the finale was quite good, the first half made me wanna kill myself.

See, I wouldn't say the reactions i've seen to the pic have been overly positive.

But no one has laughed. No one has said anything negative.

Every single person i've shown it to has had to look at it intensly, and half of them actually get a look of confusion on their face. Then I get a reaction like 'Oh right', as though it's completely not what they were expecting.

I have to take that as a really good thing though.

I ask 'normal' people if they wanna see a picture of the new Superman, and they are so expecting to see a smiling man in bright colours, posing with his arms at his sides, that when they see this new picture, they actually don't know what to say :)

It's almost like... 'Oh, what... Superman can be cool?!' :D
