All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 4

I just finished Look up to the Sky! ;)
Yes, Cavill does have big BOOTS to fill!

I can see how Meloni's character's title can change especially if he's just a supporting character. And I for one would love to see the US military vs Superman at first, as in they aren't sure they can trust him but then by the end of the movie or close to the end they know that he is there to protect us, not harm us

I think that at best the US military and Superman will tolerate each other by the end.
It would be irresponsible of any military to be fine with a flying god over airspace, even if he is a good guy. The top brass would have to have a plan in place for unlikely scenarios such as what if Superman decided to turn against humanity one day if someone were to control him?
IMO the US military and Superman will tolerate each other by the end of the movie.
Remember, Dan Goyer wrote the U.S. Citizenship story in Action #900, and even in that context, were Superman is well established as the greatest of all heroes, there were U.S. Military sharpshooters with kryptonite bullets ready to take him down, if necessary.

Don't hate the Routh.
He did put on the costume and fill the boots.
He continues to carry himself like a Superman to present day.

I am thinking Meloni if really a general is Kryptonian general not a earth gen.

I think of Superman Returns as a closure of Donner Superman Universe, and Routh was reasonably good in that movie, now we are ready to move in a different direction, I am sure Cavill will be successful as Superman in MOS as well.

When mentioning Routh, it is a shame that he did great with what he was given, but the movie was a stinker. The plane scene as well as some cool homages to the comics were about all it had going for it. Spacey was decent as Luthor, but the real estate gag has been beaten to death.

I believe Routh was a good Superman, but they could have chosen a better one and made a better film altogether.

This suit-reveal has really divided this board and brought out the fanatics. It's become the TDKR-board and is somewhat slowly turning into IMDB's MOS-board.
I miss the good ol' "boring" days.

I agree. It's nothing like the SR suit reveal was. Back then it was about a 50/50 split.
Its not near as divided this time, and the majority seem pleased.
The Front page here has a poll, and nearly 70 percent rate it an 8 out of 10 or higher. Other sites have a similar reaction, most like it.

Remember when it was, "Don't doubt the Routh" and this entire site was debating whether it would be a sequel or a reboot? Every little scrap of information was thoroughly examined for even a scrap of a hint as to what the new movie would be. And slowly people went from believing in a Superman Returns sequel to hoping for a Superman Returns sequel to hoping for a Superman movie that still had Routh in it to just plain giving up and getting in with the reboot.

It doesn't seem like five years, does it?

There are many reasons for this, there were certain vocal supporters of Tom Welling and they felt that only he could do any justice to the role they even thought that Chris Reeve had passed on the mantle of Superman to TW.
So, because of Smallville, fan base was already divided.

then there were some who opposed Routh from the start because he was chosen as he looked like Chris Reeve, and they wanted the franchise to move in a new and different direction, away from Donnerverse.

The traditional fans who wanted classic suit were upset when the first pic. of Routh was released. the pic itself was very mediocre looking and many disliked the suit.

Even then there were Cavill supporters who wanted Henry Cavill as Superman.

Are you guys actually going onto other sites and checking the comments section for opinions?
I've looked at articles about the suit reveal on at least a 12-13 sites and the majority of comments are actually quite negative, not overly impressed, or are poking fun at certain elements of the costume or stars or Snyder.
I keep hearing people say it's going down well with the general audience but I've yet to find a site besides maybe 2 or 3 where that's the case.

Maybe he'll wear special glasses?

Its lens that turn darker when exposed to bright light. More realistic than regular glasses...damn Nolan and is realism, rubbing off on me :p

That's every comment section about everything.

Divided??

Most seem to like the new suit from what I can tell. I guess you weren't here when the SR suit was revealed?

Now that is when this forum was "divided", if you can call it that.

Because they like the suit and want it to go over well with the general audience.

I personally think there's been less adverse reaction because what we see of the costume looks so great, and the controversial part-the trunks or lack thereof-is conveniently hidden. Once there's a full reveal and Superman is in silly looking full body unitard pj's with no trunks to break it up, the jokes from the GA will be even more neverending.

I think the material will help with the crotch, to an extent.

What matters is. we require new photographs.so we can pick over it and stop staring at cavills crotch. Unless you enjoy it of course. If so have fun.

Did one of you guys design this?

Not sure how legit this is, but it is credited to Warner Bros.

Check out a reported "early poster" for the new Superman movie reboot, the Man of Steel.

About.com has this movie poster up with the title: Early Poster - 'Man of Steel.'

Warner Bros. did just release an image of Henry Cavill in the Superman costume, so I suppose this could be possible. And seeing how it is an early version, could explain the lower quality image.

No, that's from here. I remember seeing that making the rounds in here a couple months ago. I'm sure somebody will remember exactly where eventually.
