All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 4

At least we're not hearing any of the ''teh red is brown'' debates.
These hair and Are-the-trunks-there-or-arent-they debates are downright classic. I'm impressed at the lengths some have gone to, to prove their point about the trunks.

I know! It's like being in a courtroom and bringing in proffesionals with evidence.

Jury's still out for me :p

You know what would make Superman unique? A pink outfit. That would sure make him stand out from other superheroes.

Unique=/=good. If Superman does not keep up with the times, he becomes an anachronism. We can't treat today's audience as if they still had the tastes of 1938.

Being unique isn't the only thing it takes to make something good, but it's an important ingredient.

Why can't this Superman be unique because he is the first modern interpretation of the character? Because he will be, to the general audience.

I've gott ask, is General Zod really played out in the eyes of the general public?

Maybe he is to comic book fans but the main audience really hasn't seen him since Superman II. You can count his time on Smallville I suppose but he wasn't on there long and I question how many people were watching the show when he made his appearances.

At this point, Zod is less played out than the Joker. Just sayin'.

When mentioning Routh, it is a shame that he did great with what he was given, but the movie was a stinker. The plane scene as well as some cool homages to the comics were about all it had going for it. Spacey was decent as Luthor, but the real estate gag has been beaten to death.

I believe Routh was a good Superman, but they could have chosen a better one and made a better film altogether.

I posted this in the Dylan Dog thread but it's probably more appropriate here -

I was a bit of a Routh apologist when SR first came out - I maintained the film's script and storyline (with an emo-like Superman) were the problem, and if Routh had been given a decent vehicle to star in he would have really shone. Unfortunately, having watched him in a few things now, I've come to the conclusion he just doesn't have the range and charm that a successful actor needs. He looks absolutely fine, he can do the action, he has a certain screen presence - but his line deliveries are monotone and his acting dull. He just sounds semi-depressed in everything. He got away with this in Scott Pilgrim as it suited his character and it was a minor role. But he can't get away with it if he's carrying a film in a lead role.

Dylan Dog did nothing to change my opinion on that, in fact it cemented it. I want to like the guy's acting as he's a likeable guy, but it's just not happening.

so....is the movie going to be called Superman: Man of Steel or just Man of Steel?

it seems whenever the media report on the movie, they refer to it as Superman: Man of Steel.

I think that's kind of like 'Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' or 'Smallville: Superman the Early Years'.

Just something that some people add on because they think it clearer for the GA.

personally, I think it should be called Superman: Man of Steel.......

but most people will probably refer to it as that new Superman movie when it comes out.......:oldrazz:

Trunks still are a better fit and they still look better.

Okay. Imagine Superman never existed. Imagine that the designers had nothing to go with when designing the movie's costume. Explain to me why he would wear underwear on the outside. Why would they do that? Why would a person now design a costume like that?

There is a reason that, in both of the DCnU titles, Superman has no underwear on the outside. They came up with a reason for every single other bit of the costume but that. So its gone. Which makes sense.

People call TDK Batman so they'll more than likely just call it Superman anyways, yeah.

I hope they don't amend the title closer to the release date because they think people won't know it's Superman. I mean come on. When you say "The Man of Steel," I don't think there's anyone who doesn't know who you're talking about. It's a much more well-known nickname for Supes than The Dark Knight is for Batman.

The last thing I want to see is something like...
Superman: Rise of the Man of Steel
Man of Steel: Superman Rises
Man of Steel: Superman United
Superman Origins: Man of Steel
Rise of the Man of Steel of the Apes

Stylistic choice, like most elements of any superhero costume.

You forgot my personal favourite.

"Man of Steel: Evolution"

Man of Steel: Dark ot the Krypton

LOL

But I think we should use the title from another Pink Floyd album and omit a word to make it sound stupid...

Man of Steel: Wish You Here

or

Man of Steel: A Momentary of Reason
