You know what would be awesome? If that scene is the final one. Clark already has his job, everything has been wrapped up in a neat little bow, and then...BAM! Some giant alien skullship appears in the sky. The citizens of Metropolis stop in their tracks and look up. Clark stands along with them, his hands reaching for his tie. "This is a job for Superman." Cue shirt rip, followed by credits.

Think of it like the ending of The Incredible.

Yeah, that would really cool, but I highly doubt it. As I believe I pointed out, if you look at Perry and Jenny at the center of the frame, they are BOTH wearing the EXACT SAME clothing they are wearing during the Battle of Metropolis. That makes it pretty clear when this scene takes place.

Well, the fact that you have construction fencing with billboards for the reconstruction of Metropolis, which speak of "Metropolis rising" in future tense, suggests that the film's end will depict Metropolis still in a state of reconstruction. Adding in another scene where the Planet is fully rebuilt seems very clunky and unnecessary.
You could have rebuild fencing on the outside, and still have a semi-working lobby. In fact, it would show the paper's resolve.

Also why do you think Clark will be going back to work before defeating Zod?

I gotta say Jenny Olsen is pretty hot...

She is an absolute cutey. We have Clark's mothers, his future wife and his best friend. All extremely attractive.

That would be sweet.

Would be cool but it's too reminiscent of the Smallville finale. Final scene being shirt rip (just on the Daily Planet rooftop)

The last scene absolutely should be the Daily Planet scene because it has thematic relevance. Throughout the film he is alien, feels alien, and is interpreted as an alien.

At the end, it's the complete opposite; his being given a job, taking the job, and effectively blending in finally makes him one of us.

I’m actually wondering on whether we’ve already seen the final shot of the film within any of the footage that’s been released online thus far since the first two Nolan Batman films had their final shots revealed in footage that was released for their promotion before the film debuted in theaters.

I think Lois' narration in trailer #3 could be the ending monologue of the film, but that's just me.

Once Zod arrives the film is going to occur over a small space of time, where no one at the DP is going to be going home while they write about the first contact with aliens in Earth's history.

@colliderfrosty
looks like the final running time for MAN OF STEEL is 143 minutes. That means for 143 minutes I'll be smiling from ear to ear.

^ awesome

Do you really need me to spell it out for you?

Would The Diary of Anne Frank make sense if Anne Frank were Indian? It's a story about what Anne Frank had to face as a young jewish girl during the holocaust. The actress portraying Anne doesn't have to be jewish, but she has to at least look jewish.

On the other hand, the stories of Annie or of Sue Storm do not have race, culture, or enthnicity being a central - or even minor - theme.

¿Comprende?

The movie should be two hours minimum.

Edit: Serious brainfart...

Excellent. 130mins with credits sounded way off to me.

Now I wonder how all those that said anything over 130mins would mean the film would lag are going to take it. Probably change their stance if this is the true runtime. I knew argument that goes along with whatever the film does. :funny:

First off, based on the destruction (buildings collapsing like Jenga) going on in the Perry and Jenny running scene, I think it is pretty clear that the Planet is located right in the middle of the action. It is probably within the radius of the Gravity Beam's effect. That suggests that the Planet is completely leveled. It would not having a semi-working lobby because the building would need to berebuilt from scratch. Look at how long it is taking to rebuild Ground Zero in NYC. Buildings like that only become habitable towards the very end of their construction.

Second, there are plenty of reasons why Clark might be returning to work after the Battle of Smallville/events on the Black Zero, maybe he needs to meet Lois or someone else covertly to get a plan to get together to stop Zod or research some way to do so. After all, we know Nolan and Goyer like to have multiple parallel plotlines running during the climax to give all the important characters something to do. On the other hand, maybe after the Battle of Smallville and his interactions with Zod and the military's distrust, maybe Clark has a crisis of confidence. Maybe he tries to undo Superman or something. Or maybe, he is just in Metropolis waiting Zod out for some reason.

So why would the scene then take place at the very end of the film after the Daily Planet has been rebuilt? That was my point to counter both you and Compi suggesting that is how the scene could be explained. It would very odd for them BOTH to choose to wear the EXACT SAME clothing on the SAME DAY months later.

There are many reasons the building could be hit. It doesn't need to be in the blast radius of the beam. If it were, wouldn't it be more likely that those around would be caught up in it, including Perry and Jenny?

Second, real world rules don't apply here in terms of a rebuild. For all we know, Superman helps them rebuild.

I have a hard time imagining any of that happening. Especially with the Black Zero escape scene.
