All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 66

Yes, there is a version where Pa Kent's death is not a formative part of Clark's life. Pa Kent's death isn't even the DOMINANT version outside of the Donner/Reeve films. Pre-Crisis, both Kents simply died of old age in the comics and Post-Crisis, they lived on for over 20 years to be there for Superman/Clark when he needed them. New 52 reverted to the Pre-Crisis version, but the death of Pa Kent as a particularly formative and life-changing experience is strictly Donner/Smallville/All-Star/Geoff John's Brainiac. So no, it IS NOT "the Superman story".
So all the relevant ones. :woot:

I was questioning just how powerful this superman would be. I was thinking/afraid that he might be weakened too much, but if he can hit zod and send him flying through a building, and hit him again and send him into a train that knocks it freaking over, then he is plenty powerful enough.

I'm afraid that he's being more weakened by realism rather than in terms of pure power. He may have the strength to punch Zod to Pluto but won't be able to do much with that strength other than punch villains and break things, so he won't be able to handle lifting anything bigger than a school bus or that oil platform tower.

Unless you cross the 49th parallel and then everyone watches it. You have no idea how weird and awkward it can get being a Canadian who doesn't like hockey. Some people act like you are unpatriotic. But I digress...
You are unpatriotic!!

Just kidding, it's like being a Texan and not watching football. So I understand how you feel.

And I'm beyond ready to see these spots in hd now

I'm a Texan and I dont watch football... But either way, this movie is gonna be awesome

That's not entirely true. While it wasn't specifically Jonathan's death but BOTH Jonathan and Martha's death, their deaths were not of natural causes pre-crisis or New 52. Pre-crisis, they were de-aged at one point and later died of a tropical illness. In the New 52, they were in a car accident caused by Vyndyktvx.

almost had it uploaded then youtube stopped responding!! suck

Yeah, I should have been more careful with the wording regarding the New 52, I just meant that they went back to both of them being dead, but I swore there was a version Pre-Crisis where they just died because they were just plain old. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't recall the Kents' deaths ever being portrayed as a pivotal life-changing moment in Clark's life that leads him to becoming Superman in a death of Uncle Ben way as it does in Superman: The Movie. I mean, in the Pre-Crisis comics, he becomes Superboy as a child and is already firmly on the hero path when they pass if I recall correctly.

So Mackenzie Gray apparently has no idea that his role was accidentally revealed!!

ahem....MOS 2? MOS 3?

Remember, this is like Batman Begins here...

It's so refreshing to see an angry, or should i say, agitated Superman.

also, cannot see it in my video (missed first 2 seconds), but the hand shot has lens flare (sun is in the background)
loved the mid-air tackle!

Awesome stuff Notrip, thanks. I shall update the list shortly.

I'm worried that they're putting a size limit rather than a strength limit on Superman to make the physics more realistic, and that anything larger than that tower or the school bus will be deemed ridiculous according to modern sensibilities. I think they believe nobody really cares about lifting feats anymore and are burnt out on them because of Superman Returns(which is sometimes derisively referred to as "Superman Lifts"), so from now on his feats will mostly be based around how far he can punch a supervillain.

looked like Faora.

Obviously I'm not advocating anything here, but I love that Snyder (seems) to have said "Uh what? She's not like really even a woman. She's just another kryptonian trying to beat his a** so she's gonna get hers, too"

Again, obviously, they'red probably be an uproar if he beat the snot out of a human female, but I say if they're close in strength and peeing in his corn flakes, fair - bleeping - game.

I get he doesn't want to fight Diana most of the time because they're friends caught in circumstances, but can you imagine if he just flat refused to fight her (be it that they're friends or she's a woman)? Please, she would end him.
