So is there a bunch of negative tweets cause all the ones I'm reading so far have been positive .

From the reaction it clearly looks like this will be a 80-95 rotten tomatoes rating. The movie will be successful and audiences will eat up the 3rd act which is 50 minutes or pure unadulterated action and good one at that.

People who won't like it:

People who don't like superman
People who don't like comic book movies
People who will say too much action too less story
People who don't like nolan
People who don't like DC comics
People who don't like Snyder
People who are generally dumb
Feminists

You forgot fanboys who wanted Brainiac as the villain!!

Na not a bunch at all. We've actually had a lot of very positive tweets, it's just the jenn murphy lady, and some guy who heard from another guy that 4 people thought it was abysmal. Take that as you will.

My problem was are they going to turn him into a grim mope factory like Returns did and lucky for me I haven't seen any proof that they have. I think my concern was perfectly legitimate in the aftermath of SR, another film a Donner fan made.

And that's my point about Batman Begins. It has a very hopeful tone to it more along the lines of Superman: The Movie (I really don't understand why people claim BB is "dark" when it really isn't), not a mopey tone like TDK or TDKR. The mopey tone of Superman Returns was surprising coming from a supposed Donner fan.

Yeah, I preferred Holmes.

Despite Katie's poor acting, at least her version of the character felt like someone you could see Bruce Wayne falling in love with/fighting with Dent over. She was a fresh-faced, idealistic public servant with both warmth and spunk. Maggie came off cold and her delivery always seemed off, dare I say wooden? Miscast, poorly written or directed or something.

Imagine if we were waiting over a week for last week's 5 spots to appear in HD. Thank god for those HitFix ads. :awesome:

According to the featurette, the dog's name is Dusty. Not Krypto.

That's it. I give up. This movie is garbage. Hollywood can never do anything right. Boycott.

:cwink:

Why won't feminist like this movie?

Because... it fails the Belched test.... yep......

I would say the tone was more UNEVEN. You had Superman saving the day, you had a LOT of camp with lex, but the darker bits are more effective, and that throws everything off. I want there be humor in MOS, but only used appropriately.

Nope, no new negative tweets as of late, still only at 2 negative tweets atm.

Thanks guys

Tbh I could give two s**ts what Jenny Murphy thinks whoever she is, when I read her tweet I thought that's typical. Not gonna get into the why as I don't wanna bring up the issue but you all know what I mean.

Aslong as the film doesn't get Green Lantern levels of bad reviews then I wouldn't worry.

...it's strange that people forget Batman Begins was heavily influenced by Donner's Superman.

Heavily influenced is a stretch. I think Nolan, as a kid, liked STM. And he did say that he admired its great casting (i.e., accomplished “name” actors in supporting roles). But beyond that similarity…

everytime i see the bechdel test in writting, i see belched instead.

Yes, exactly.

The thing is Singer only homaged the Donner films in superficial ways. The music, dialogue callbacks, the plot, casting a Reeves lookalike etc. The result seems kind of confused in that he wanted to do a modern update but at the same time wanted to make the Superman III that he never got. He couldn't let go.

In actuality Batman Begins is much closer in spirit to STM than Superman Returns. The grand sense of scale, the full hour exploration of the origin, the casting, the sense of an extraordinary figure emerging in an ordinary world. The world of Gotham is much bleaker than Metropolis, but there's still a warmth and optimism to be found in BB. When I heard Nolan and Goyer were taking on Superman, I thought it was kind of funny that they had went full circle in a sense back to the thing that influenced their take on Batman.

That said, I do think Man of Steel will be sufficiently different than Superman. Enough time has passed and every generation gets their version of the story. It seems like they've sought to walk that balance of taking some creative liberties to update the character but making sure the essence of the material is preserved.

I didn't either as I didn't like the character from the start because she isn't a character. And I never loved the idea of Wayne having a childhood love interest anyhow.

You got me there. I should say I want the character to be as good as Hath-Cat even if like that character Lois doesn't get enough screentime.

Hath-cat, lol. Never heard that one before. The character of Lois will be as good as Hath-cat or even better simply because of the actress that will be portraying her. Hold on now, I know that's a bold statement but I have my reasons.

Me neither. Why this board got its panties in a wad over her review I'll never know. If she wants to rate movies according to some Bechdel test that's her business (and it doesn't make her stupid nor does it make her opinion invalid) but that doesn't mean any of us have to feel the same way. I'm more concerned with the guy who said it wasn't on BB's level. I can't fathom how MOS could be as that movie. MOS to me looks as though it's got similar character moments but much better action.

Even if it's a remake, it would be nice to have some stronger visual effects. I love the '78 movie, but the effects just don't hold up today.

I thought I was the only one who preferred Katie to Maggie; and its not only based on looks. Katie's Rachel seemed a little less of a victim and more pro active.

Very true.

Returns was the first Superman movie made in an era where the technology was a point to do Superman's powers justice, but MoS seems like the first one to be made that will actually take full advantage of that.

Here's why I think that the TDK team is an even BETTER fit for superman, on paper anyway. Nolan's attempt to make Batman into a symbol of hope (a misguided one, in my humble opinion) dillutes the character, but couldn't be more appropriate for the original caped superhero.

So while Nolan created a Batman fit for the GA, Superman doesn't have to be simplified, just adapted.

Getting rid of Luthor and bringing in the Kryptonian villains certainly plays a part in that.

I think Batman Begins is criminally overrated so a review saying it isn't as good means nothing to me one way or another. I just don't get the love for that film and never will.
