We are in like minds. I hated the prologue too. Especially the chase scene; poorly shot, poorly edited, a rush job. Which is surprising because every other action scene is so good. I guess Whedon excels at the over the top over the grounded.

Yeah, I was nervous watching it because I knew I didn't like what I was seeing. I had people telling me, "If you liked IM1, you'll enjoy this one a lot." Tony isn't in there. Hulk isn't in there. Heck, even Cap wasn't in that scene. I'm sitting there thinking, "This isn't what I signed up for."

Then the movie just kept getting better and better. It's probably the only superhero movie where the third act is better than everything that came before. Usually a good superhero movie (including IM1) will start off great and then fall apart in the climax. Not the case with Avengers. It stumbles in the first 10-15 minutes, then gets better and better.

Hulk was so awesome, especially in the third act. Darn shame that we've had two movies about him that didn't even come close to Avengers' characterization (or special effects for him as well).

I don't think anyone here dare yell at you. You rule us through fear.
:lmao:That's Jamie or Show or C.Lee.

On a serious note, if I don't like this film I'm no longer going to be frequenting this thread after I get the disappointment out of my system (lets be honest, I'm going to be *****ing for months).

You don't understand. It isn't that kind of movie. If you watched it right, you'd understand it is utter perfection brought to us by Odin himself.

I don't agree with Spidey much but this is one of those occasions where I agree with her. The more I watch The Avengers, the more I realize the plot was shallow. Whedon, in my opinion, was more interested in the characters and dialogue.

For instance, the whole turning point for The Avengers [Coulson's death] was weak.

I actually prefer the second act and the assault on the Hellicarrier over the climactic fight. The Heli-siege had tangible stakes, whereas the last battle had the Aliens simply destroy inanimate property like cars.

Just like every Joss Whedon project. :o

My favorite scene is probably in the 2nd act. It's the scene where all the protagonists are squabbling with each other. Love how Whedon handled that aspect of the characters. Nick Fury has been a fairly boring character in the Marvel movies, but he had a great line during the squabble. "Remind me again how you made your fortune, Stark." LOL. Great comeback when Stark asked him why SHIELD was making WMD's.

I didn't give a crap about Coulson dying. That plot point was beyond weak.

Avengers is like the Star Trek reboot in that the emotional climax of the film is thinly scripted in terms of events, with
Phil's injury paralleling Kirk's fight with Spock
and the results are more uniform than realistic.

However, TA basically throws realism out the window, with ordinary people attacking Alien invaders relatively unscathed.

Sam and Scarlett were monotone in Iron Man 2, Whedon, through his great knack for characterization gave them some panache. I loved, loved Widow's reversal on Loki. The entire theater was reeling at that moment.

Best scene in the second act was Thor with his hand out just quietly waitin for his hammer then BAM!

Did anyone see this?!:

We've seen "Man of Steel" promotions for products and businesses of all kinds... so why not "Man of Steel" for your local church?

Warner Bros. and MinistryResources.org have partnered to create a website which contains "Man of Steel" resources for Christian priests, pastors and ministers.
The website site contains Sermon Outlines about "Jesus - The Original Superhero", video downloads, images, and the chance for registered pastors to attend an advance screening of "Man of Steel" in their local city.

That's Whedon though. I don't view him as a good storyteller, but his characters and dialogue always seem to pop.
True, in the wrong hands though that dialogue will pop in the most heinous way (ie Storm's in X-Men).

A bad storyteller can't write Astonishing X-men as it was. I reject that notion. The ending of that story puts every comic book movie to shame. it's also a feminists wet dream of a climax.

TASM board was depressed? I didn't even know that because I rarely visit that snake pit. Well that news doesn't make me unhappy...

Yea I was thinking like regular sized burritos. lol I don't want to blow up before the movie starts. IDK I just love burrittos they're like slices of pizza to me. I'll miss my late class too but I'll be leaving from my first class so It will be impossible for me to sleep in :woot:

lol@ blow up. Gross!

And that's right, you did say you had an early class. Perfect, then.

Don't we all know it. :woot:

I love Coulson, but it just didn't work. I really, really like the Avengers. Some of my favorite fanboy moments. My love for the characters and the actors performances just makes it great. It is so much fun.

But is it a great film? Far from it, and the plot is at the heart of that. Excelsior is right. The final battle is pretty damn neat, but it has no stakes. They cut out all the scenes that gave it stakes, like the waitress scenes, which I think would have added a hell of a lot to it. And personally, I think the middle of the film has a lot of pacing issues.

Very active member on the forums got to see the film early and compared it to Green Lantern... Then the whole place became depressed and sad. Very funny looking back on it.

LOL, that was RIM.

It's messed up how those boards chased him out. Funny, but messed up.

Joss can write character, story and plot all equally well. It is just that sometimes he misses the mark. With the Avengers, I think a lot of it was down to them playing it safe.

Why I am much more excited about Avengers 2, and all the sequels in Phase 2 really. They no longer have to play it safe.

He hasn't been back since, correct?

Yeah how dare I just kinda like a movie instead of adoring it.

If I come back here and give MOS a 7.5 or 8/10 I'm going to get yelled out I know. :(

nope, you wont. we may all feel the same too.
