Um, no it won't. Iron Man 3 looks to have a smashing concept, smashing cast, smashing writer/director, smashing villain and a smashworthy lead actress. It ain't close to over.

I was refering to it being 2012. But no, IM3 doesnt look the least impressive to me, but I was never an IM-buff anyway.

You're not impressed by Shane Black as the writer/director, Guy Pierce and Ben Kingsley as the villains, and Jessica Chastain as the love interest? Not to mention the story being based on Extremis?

That sounds as great as the Avengers.

Yep, sounds like more of the same thing. How about giving us something new? Well, what can yo do. It's Marvel.

Yes. Man of Steel = Iron Man

Too obvious :oldrazz:

Not to feed the argument, but The Avengers is absolutely something new in every sense of the word. I expect Iron Man 3 to take similar risks.

It's new being an ensemble-concept, which is fine. Still looks and feels like the solo-movies it was born from, only bigger and possible better put together.

I disagree. I just saw it, and it certainly felt like something new to me.

In terms of MOS though, I just don't think it matters because it's not the same kind of film IMO.

It's like people trying to compare TDK and The Avengers. I couldn't possibly say one was a better superhero movie than the other... they were both completely different in both intention and execution.

I had the option of seeing it via advanced screening tonight or Tuesday, I'm going Tuesday.

That being said I'm not sure what could possibly be so different in terms of what Avengers is to the superhero genre.

Agreed. I completely loved The Avengers (probably my new favorite superhero flick), but I certainly don't expect MoS to follow its lead or anything like that, just like I didn't expect Avengers to follow TDK's (my other favorite superhero flick) lead. They're completely different animals.

I'm the same way. My favorite comparison for both flicks, at the moment anyways, is basically Return of the King vs A New Hope. Both are instant classics, but both films are completely dissimilar and operate on divergent formats.

Exactly. The only thing different is they are "assembling".

Yay. For me Loki being the main baddie is rather weak.

havent seen it but putting 4 heroes from 4 different universes who all had solo movies together is something i would call new and fresh and something we haven't seen before

Like I said, that's the only thing that is different. They are "assembling".

Other than that, the story and effects will not be much different than Battleship or Transformers for that matter.

Loki is a weak main baddie IMO.

probably wait till you see it to call it transformers/battleship story wise since alot of reviews have been praising avengers

I was just on MOS wikipedia page and according that that now Thomas Newman is doing the score for MOS, yet I cannot find a source, so far. Anybody know anything about this? Also what are your thoughts on this possibility? I definitely didn't expect him to do the score. I was thinking Howard Shore or something.

Avengers a new concept? Come on now...
In film.

You say that the only thing new that Avengers brings to the table is the "assembling" of heroes, and shrug it off like it's not a big deal. It's a HUGE deal. This has not been done before in cinema.

I really, really hope Avengers knocks the socks off everybody an their mothers. Maybe then WB/DCE will wake up and throw some Easter eggs into TMOS.

Thankyou! I was just going to say that.

Strange. I wonder where they pulled that from?

I've thought about Newman for MOS before, because he's just so damn heartfelt. Not sure he could do action though. His stuff is usually VERY mellow.

But strange indeed.

Yeah I only know him from American Beauty and most of Mendes other stuff, and I certainly like his music, but he's very subtle and like you said mellow. He definitely hasn't done anything I would call "Epic". Not saying he can't because I don't know but I just can't feel it. Yeah I haven't seen any sources for it though and I know Newman is busy with Skyfall but that doesn't mean he couldn't do that too. It seems like his name was posted from out of no where and is probably some idiot making a mistake, but we should find out one way or another soon enough.

A short Thomas Newman action cue (the action part doesn't start until about :50 seconds in):

Of course, that's an action cue without a "hero theme" or anything like that built into it. Still, I don't think he'd have a problem with the action. I would actually LOVE it if Thomas Newman was scoring this, partially because I had resigned myself to the likelihood that Tyler Bates would end up doing it. But Newman seems pretty unlikely to me, so I'm not holding my breath.

Agreed, that's a good comparison. Or if you want to stick to the same genre like this (though those could arguably be considered in the same genre as well), it's like comparing E.T. with Alien. Two pristine examples of alien-based sci-fi, but two VERY different approaches to the genre with very different stories to tell.

You're wasting your time, that guy has been trolling Marvel Studios films for quite some time now.

I'm not just saying that because he dislikes Marvel films, I'm saying that because he's ACTUALLY trolled the THOR and CA:TFA threads.
