Didn't know there was a color difference between Reeve's STM and SIII suits. Or is that the lighting?

I believe that's the one that CR used when he was portraying the evil version of Superman in that film.

Yeah that's when he was evil after being effected by that fake Kryptonite. It also says "Evil Superman" on the base piece of the display.

I haven't seen 3 of the 4 movies you just listed but at the very least MOS is definitely the worst movie I've seen in theaters this year. And that's saying something because I thought this was a summer chock full of disappointments.

I'd also like to remind you that Superman is my all time favorite character and that MOS marked the most excited I had ever been for a movie. If there's one person that would have been easy to please, it would have been me. Instead I thought it was a flaming pile.

I love how you equate your high expectations as evidence of why you should have loved the movie. When in fact, It's exactly that you were so stoked for the film which is probably why you were so disappointed. The flame that burns brightest sort of thing. Those who compare mos to green lantern, ghost rider, fantastic four, iron man 2, etc are being insanely hyperbolic. As are you. This movie had faults, but it was a strong effort for sure. Lets get some perspective here.

Anyone else kind of miss the days when this thread was jam packed with posters here posting away about our excitement and reaction to the new bits of info and footage that we got before the film was released, let alone the first set of reviews?lol

Hey guys, was it ever revealed what that "new power" was in MOS, because they said Superman (or Kryptonians in general) were suppose to have an extra power from the film?

Telescopic vision. It happened when he looked up towards the moon and saw the ship obiting it.

300 post... I´ve never presented myself... Hi hypers... glad to be part of this... now...how can I put my avatar... someone could help me?

I found this comment/topic interesting from IMDB.

Why MOS is getting mixed reception
Frothbyte-
From Donner's Superman films to Lois and Clark to Smallville to Superman Returns, all of these have played Superman like a soap opera character. It basically WAS soap opera, just with a superhero. So most of the old timers to baby boomers and even up to the older generation X, they loved their Superman with all that soap operatish drama. Problem is, that kind of character doesn't sit well with the new generation. with So DC/WB took a risk and updated their Superman to fit the new generation, and that made the older generation hate it. If you ask me, DC/WB made the right decision. They might have made the risk now but this Superman will pave the way for it's tone in the future, and that can only mean success for it.

northernlad-
I agree 100%. Because of those earlier installments I think some have gotten it into their heads that this is how Superman should always be and unfortunately that isn't the case. He has to evolve and grow just like any other character. I think they've done the right thing in the long run for Superman.

SturmLiouville-
i definitely agree, a lot of people were used to the soap opera of reeve's superman and superman returns "lois' baby's daddy is superman!" drama
man of steel has much more heart than the other films... i'm sorry, but the one scene where he is clenching his fists slowly, fighting back the beam, risking his life for all of humanity... no other superhero film has any scene that comes CLOSE to that passion, that level of heart, the hope of fighting against something when all the odd's are against you
people were distracted by the action and therefore thought that "this movie only has action"

ugottrollolololol-
It has nothing to do with old superman films, the film falls into generic blockbuster territory like transformers/pirates of the carribbean in the hands of David Goyer & Zach Snyder. The film was not intended to be a masterpiece like the dark knight, it was suppose to be a money maker like Iron Man. What matters, despite the mixed reviews, is it's popularity among audiences that bring in the mega box office.

Granted I believe you all have incredibly low standards and would have loved the movie no matter what pile of dogs*** they would have thrown at you but that's beside the point. Then again, maybe ignorance is bliss.

Not liking the film is one thing...insulting people is something else.

I'm sure you can debate without resorting to insults.

^ I do think there is SOME confirmation bias/denial of the errors of film itself. But I also think there are people out there who have a high view of cinema, and react to the emotional aspects of MOS. I'm not saying their opinion is valid, but I feel like it bears some legitimacy.

But, yes, we shouldn't result to insult.

Believe it or not, someone out there may think Spiderman 3 is the greatest movie ever made. Now if I told that same person he had absolutely no idea what he's talking about... is that a crime?

edit: My bad, I'll stop.

If he was able to write a nice 4 page essay on the qualities of Spider-Man 3, and how it's a reflection of the vast, internal struggle of mankind, and how the use of three unfocused villains parallels our own inability to understand the nature of our inner demons, then I might listen. I still wouldn't agree, though ;)

So what day is the Superman 75th anniversary panel happening ? Tomorrow or Saturday ?

I had the same thing happen when I saw Silent Hill on my friends' Birthday Skrilla31. I hated that film so much I was embarrassed that I recommended it.

I actually apologized to him.

I'm sorry you were disappointed but Superman is my all time favorite hero also and has been for over 40 years and I thought it was the best Superman movie I'd ever seen. I've seen it multiple times in theater and even my wife has seen it twice. I just completely love that film. Opinions even among hard core fans vary.

It damn well should, he's outright calling dozens of people ignorant sheep. You can be honest without being insulting.

Very true but as someone who gave the film an 8/10 I just find it too over the top and crazy an opinion for me to be insulted by it.

Wow, I just realized that RT score wise, MOS shares a similar score on RT with the first Transformers film. Now there's something to laugh at.haha

Guys, lets move back to the discussion and away from the "lets see who can come up with the funniest gif to show how we really feel..."

People have different opinions, give your opinion in a respectful manner.

And some need to check themselves, look in the mirror, if you are here to simply start arguments, then move on now. If the bickering continues infractions will be handed out.

I didn't like the movie myself, but I think it's clear as day why others might like, even love it. You have this amazing cast assembled with possibly this generation's Superman installed (have to see more of Henry as Clark before declaring definitively), an origin story that takes risks (going the really serious route), a story with big themes and quiet, tender moments, and, of course, Superman action on the silver screen the likes of which have never been seen before.

Whether all the above come together and succeed is up to the individual, but make no bones about it, Man of Steel is THE movie event of the year.

Its polarizing because its different. Simple as that. You either accept the first real new take on the big Screen Superman in 35 years, or you dont.

My beef wasn't with the "take". It was with the movie.

So let me guess, the action was repetitive, too long, and numbing. And the romance was forced, and the non-linear storytelling broke up the pace of the film. All of that ruined the film and made it one of the worst of the year. Am I right?

Hey! We are talking about MOS here not Pacific Rim!
