Like someone said aboive in Birthright theres a fake Kryptonian invasion maybe in this there's a real Kryptonian invasion but they could just be using elements of Birthright.
Its obvious we will deal with anAlien invasion in the story. My question though is how this invasion with Zod will take place. Will he break out of the Phantom Zone with troops?did zod come to earth with Kal-el etc

who knows exciting isnt it? :D

I don't think i've ever seen a cold or mechanical Nolan film. Every single film the man has made has at it's core an emotional resonance, a richness of feeling hardwired into the story.

I feel that, having never been impressed by snyder, there is still plenty reason for optimism. The cast so far is stellar, and the inclusion of zod points at the possibility of exploring Clarks ideological journey as it develops throughout the narrative.
The do have an emotional resonance, but they re somewhat mechanical in achieving that. I dont know...

Jak and Project862006, i might have exaggerated a bit but i dont think i'm that far off.

What worries me is if the Phantom Zone is used again then people will say even more that it is a rehash of Superman II. But would Zod and Faora have just left (or escaped) Krypton before the explosion? Or would they have been imprisoned in the Phantom Zone, since they had criminal histories on Krypton. It's really hard to tell. There's also a question of how many Kryptonians left before it exploded, or if space travel was a big part of Kryptonian life at that point.

Yeah and headracking.:woot:
Part of me is diappionted we arent going with the earth one approach though:csad:

I didnt care for earth one myself so I'm happy they aren't using that but at the same time they will probably use elements of all the origins.

It won't necessarily follow Birthright entirely, and that story could mainly be used for the earlier parts of the story, since that's all that synopsis gives away (the beginning.)

It does sound pretty good though, and sounds right- that he is forced to use his powers, and then returning to Smallville gives a chance to view his backstory, in what sounds like will be in flashback, and then can move on to the main plot.

He's not forced to use his powers. He has been using them to help people, minus the costume and public appearance. He just use them when ppl don't notice. It's just in Africa, it's where he made the decision to go public.

But yeah, it would be pretty good if they took the Africa part of Birthright. Always loved the idea of him inspired to honor his Birthright. Just don't put in all the vegetarian thing.

We have ZERO evidence to point out that we aren't going with the earth one approach, until you see official WB confirmation or see a rumor being reported as news on a respectable site (like SHH or deadline), it's 99.9% sure to be total ********!
We know the villain is Zod. We know its an origin story. We know nothing more. Everything else is fanboy conjecture!

Well, I meant "forced" in that he has no other choice but to use his powers if he wants to help people.

********!
Bleedingcool.com, what happened, you didn't want **************.com to be sole ******** generator of fake Man of Steel news for the week?

This is the original text from the Feature Film Audition Casting Call a few months back:

Story:

Clark Kent is a freelance reporter in his early 20's, traveling all around the world covering various news stories. However, Kent is forced to fly back into action to attain a fleeing assassin instead of covering an ethnic conflict between the Ghuri and Turaaba clans in West Africa. Upon his return to form, Kent returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and become the hero he was born to be.

There is a lot similar and it is from 'Birthright', but really, it doesn't give too much away but could be a standard brief synopsis for industry people wanting some info.

Have you even read the article?

Yeap. That's pretty much it.

hopefully not. That goes with the character.

But it was you who said "Superman's powers are going to work under the laws of physic and all" and "Realism means verosimilitude."

So why all of a sudden the glasses can't be explained and everything else about Superman can? Super-powers go with the character too.

It's weird how BR gets almost universal love now, and yet at the time of its release it really divided the fanbase. Now it's not even official canon. Ah well.

Any inspiration from that story is great to see. That was a modern Superman if I'd ever seen it.

Very true. people just like to moan and complain. I really hate that, looks like everyone wants to say bad things no matter what. That was definitely the case.

Now, almost 10 years after, with enough distance, we have much better notion about Waid work and all the stuffs he introduced.

As myself, I always enjoyed Birthright a lot.

I can see what Snyder means saying that this is going to be the most realistic of his movies.

He just means that the world around Superman is going to be very realistic. Not over-stylized as hes previous works. And I think thats the right direction to go for.

A realistic world, like ours, makes Superman more.. well.. Super. We see a world we are very familiar with, and this amazing person with incredible abilities. Its easier relates with.

In an stylized world, everything would just looks fake. "Oh, sure, someone so powerful in a fantastic world" kind of thing. But grounded in reality, it makes Superman shines.

How are people not getting this?

wtf.gif

you just confirmed never to take your opinion to merit ever again LOL

:pal: That's a funny gif!

this hardly makes it based on birthright. the idea of clark traveling the world pre-superman was only a small portion of birthright and had been referenced in the comics before.

I'm not saying it'll be 100% Birthright.

It may be that the first act is inspired by Birthright and the rest is new stuff, replacing the whole alien invasion thing with Zod.
The West Africa crisis thing does sounds something out of Birthright. It's just an assumption on my part.

That sounds pretty much perfect to me
Abso-friggin-lutely.

Young Clark, struggling with being an alien, roams the other observing human behavior, while hiding/avoiding his powers as he associates them with being an alien. An event forces him to use his powers for good, which leads to an internal debate about his role in society and his powers. Along comes Zod and he realizes his role as Superman.

Basically Birthright, yes. But an absolutely perfect story for a movie.

That's fantastic and all.

Now, what could that possibly have to do with what I said?

I just said that in this effort to be realistic I'd like to see the glasses issue consistently addressed in a convincing way. Not just "Er... that comes with the character, period. But the rest is very realistic."

How are people not getting this?

People get it.

what do you want them to do make his glasses come from krypton or something to blind the common man to his appereance

Hopefully something better than that.

I don't know if you've read Birthright, but I think they handled all these types of issues better than I've ever seen them handled.
He wore glasses to make the bright blue of his eyes duller so they don't stand out so much, he wears clothes that are a little big to make him seem scrawnier, and he get's a book on method acting to create a different persona in body language and voice etc.

I thought it was a very realistic, believable way of addressing it so I'd love to see that incorporated into the film.
