All Things Superman: An Open Discussion

random question not to be taken seriously: Superman has super strength, sight and hearing...

...but does he also have super taste, smell, and touch??? what about super emotions?

Interesting, he seems to have Super everything else ha ha so maybe

I would assume so, lol.

I remember there was this crappy sitcom called Bob where Bob Newhart played a comic book artist who created a character that had the powers of a dog. He had super-hearing and super-smelling powers. I always figured Superman had super-smelling abilities too but he was probably never vocal about it to anyone because it just sounds stupid.

Still though, imagine how much that would suck. If someone in the room farts, you smell it first and it's 10 times worse for you than everyone else. Actually, if someone in the building across the street from you farts, you probably have to smell it.

Can you imagine the hell he must go through when he has to fly over a garbage dump or a sewage treatment plant? I bet he has to super-puke.

And thus we come back to the age old question that has always been on the minds of people :

Can Superman kill a woman when he's having an orgasm ?

This is a LOADED answer, but see Hancock.

Either way, the term "faster then a speeding bullet " will have lethal consequences

or it could be a disappointment...

Lois: Faster than a speeding bullet huh?
Clark: Sorry, Lois...you just have that effect on me!

Yep, watch the deleted scene in Hancock where he pushes the woman off and shoots holes through the roof when he blows his load.

Hancock's powers were inspired by Superman after all :word:

I'm not sure if there's a thread already made to discuss this, but has it been discussed as to what kind of tone you guys would hope for the new superman film to have?

Should they try to aim for the same tone that the first Iron Man film had where it had a good mixture of humor/seriousness/drama?

I'd say a mix of I.M., B.B., and spider-man 1.

Just finished reading Birthright.

Can't say I didn't tear up at the last page. Beautiful.

Hope we get something like that moment in Snyder's film.

Birthright >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Returns

I personally dont see why so many people complain about Birthright, I was put off from reading it initially due to some bad reports, once I read it though I thought it was brilliant and a perfect way for a modern Superman origina story to be told.

Totally agree about the ending also, my eyes welled up.

Yeah man its a great book.

It truly is.

If we are getting a Superman movie that closely follows it, combined with Snyder's visual's and storytelling, I think we are in for a treat and a half.

Definitely I often have thought instead of making Superman Returns and had they adapted Birthright I think they'd have had more of a hit.

No doubt.

Absolutely. Returns was the definition of unnecessary retread.

Birthright would have been a huge breath of fresh air if adapted instead.

We'd already have our sequel and we'd be waiting for the third film. I'm pretty sure a Birthright adaptation would have been successful enough to start a new trilogy.

Anyway thankfully it looks like this will be there shot for that level of success now albeit WB's last chance as well.

Well I think Birthright could have worked as straight adaptation but I think SR's destroyed the chance of Lex been the only villain in a new movie and thats why they'd have to add a Supervillain to the reboot.

They could integrate Brainiac into the Birthright story very easily. Simply make him a piece of Kryptonian technology that evacuated Krypton, that Lex has gotten hold of and used to help him develop his planned fake invasion, except Brainiac double crosses him and uses the technology to try and take over Metropolis himself.

So instead of just fighting actors in Kryptonian tanks, Superman actually fights a supervillain in the third act.

Birthright COULD work as a straight adaptation, but i'm hoping they take Birthright's core and substitute Lex communicating with past Kryptonians with Lex communicating and conspiring with Brainiac to launch a mock invasion. i also wouldn't mind seeing some Secret Origin injected into the script either. i'm not sure i like that Superman's heritage is revealed to him by his arch-rival. it would be like the Joker revealing that he killed Bruce's parents...

....wait a minute.

Oh yeah definitely that would be awesome

Well this is all assuming of course if Snyder's film is even a origin story or not.

Personally, I hope it is since I want Superman's origins to be reestablished in a modern way and allow it to breathe from the constraints of the Donner film.

Diane Lane as Martha Kent...

...i think it's safe to say that we're getting an origin tale. even if it's not a full fledged origin tale, it will definitely deal with Clark before he decides to be Superman.

I would hope so, but just because the Kents (Martha confirmed only for now) are in it, it doesn't necessarily mean that it may deal with Clark before he became Superman.

I mean I know that SR is a sore topic here, but look at that for an example. It had Martha, and yet it wasn't an origin tale.

I mean I could see it being Superman's early days since Diane Lane is relatively young along with Cavill for that matter.
