love it. but the hulk has done it somehow... :(

The difference between the Hulk and Superman's approaches towards handling the military is that Superman is smart and strong enough to control his powers when dealing with the military so that his actions towards them would not end up fatally or critically injuring any of them.

Plus, unlike the hulk, the military turning on Superman would effect him mentally and emotionally as well since one of Superman's fears has been being rejected/feared by humanity.

I think there needs to be a reason they're attacking him. I can understand the Hulk, even as well meaning as he really is, he causes a lot of damage when he's around. But Superman for the most part doesn't break the law. He saves lives and averts disasters which I can't really see being construed as vigilantism. Now if this were the early golden age Superman, who often took the law into his own hands, yeah, the military would be after him.

Overall, I don't want Superman's world to be like Marvel, where everyone hates and fears him. When he makes his first public save, I want people to cheer and be amazed. There can eventually be conflict, but I don't want it to be the status quo.

People could cheer but I think countries should react the same.

I can guarantee you the United States would totally deploy their highest form of artillery against such a "specimen".

So its not really a Marvel way at looking at it but a realistic one and thats what everything is indicating towards based on everything we've heard from Snyder & Nolan.

We'll see. It'll be interesting to find out more as this develops.

I dont know,it looks like it was taking off before it even had a chance. They never usually gone that quick.
I found the quote-it was moved to another website. Its just a rumor and I doubt its the Plot but here it is.

hi guys superkal here and have i got a doozy for you! just got and email from my source, well just call him Lionel Luthor and hes provided me with a possible character list for all the characters and villains that appear in Zack snyder's Man of Steel and thank RAO NONE OF THEM IS ZOD! and there are some spoiler plot points as well so if u dont wanna be Spoiled you HAVE BEEN WARNED LOOK NO FURTHER!"Superman villains are Brainiac, Lex Luthor and Bruno Manheim. Lex and Bruno in like the first act and mid way through the second which is when Brainiac arrives to Earth and causes hell. Brainiac destroyed Krypton (Superman's homeworld) and offers him knowledge of his origin and that says he has saved Krypton. General Sam Lane leads Earth's human defence against Brainiac unsure of Superman's intentions but everybody soon comes to love Superman after he defeats Brainiac in a battle in Metropolis. Brainiac survives and uses Lex Luthor and LexCorp to rebuild himself a new stronger body and re-engages Superman in an epic battle for the Earth. and lionel also has given me a list of characters in the movie of significant importance:

Kal-El / Clark Kent / Superman (Alien who crash landed on Earth, grew up to realise that his super powers should be shared with the world)
Brainiac (Alien android from the planet Colu built to collect information. went on to destroying numerous planets including Krypton, Superman's homeworld)
Lois Lane (Sluggish reporter for the Daily Planet, the arrival of Superman changes Lois' fortunes for the better)
Lex Luthor (Multi billionaire owner of LexCorp, a conglomate company that has illegal connections that help the company grow)
Mercy Graves (Personal Assistant and bodyguard to Lex Luthor, she is fiercely loyal)
Bruno Manheim (Leader of Intergang, a criminal organization funded by Lex Luthor to help his company)
General Sam Lane (4 star General who leads the USA's attack on the hostile alien android Brainiac)
Jonathan Kent (The adoptive father of Superman who lives in Smallville, KA)
Martha Kent (The adoptive mother of Superman who lives in Smallville, KA)
Jimmy Olsen (A low level photographer for the Daily Planet who's fortune changes after becoming the first photographer of the alien Superman)
Perry White (Editor in Chief of the Daily Planet who pushes his reporters to get the best stories out there)
John Corben (Top reporter for the Daily Planet who has connections with Lex Luthor who keeps his public image clean)
Cat Grant (Showbiz reporter for the Daily Planet and arch rival of Lois Lane, whom she graduate college with). this Sounds Excellent to me and Not a Zod anywhere in the Mix! this Sounds like the Superman movie FANS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR! fingers crossed Superkal out!

I could see Lex convincing the military that Superman may be a threat..convincing them that it's better to shoot first and ask questions later.
I say that because I expect Lex to have a close relationship with the military, very similar to what T.S. had with them in I.M. The difference being, Lex will be a cold blooded bastard.

I would LOVE to see LexCorp and have them be a military weapons provider

Nobody can really say what would happen if a superman showed up one day. I can't see them automatically attacking him if he didn't do anything to deserve it.

I just don't want the movie taking such a pessimistic tone. I like depth and realism to an extent, but I also like the classic image of a hero saving the day and people cheering him/her on. Superman embodies that I think, he's the quintessential good guy hero that everyone loves, you can't mess with that too much.

I saw someone say that the Reeve movies have an upbeat marching band theme because of the campy nature of them, but I don't think it's just because of the tone of those particular movies, but because that's what Superman is about. Superman is the upbeat, triumphant marching band no matter what. Even if Superman were swooping in to stop the Holocaust, once he saves the day, no matter how grim things were, Superman made everything right and that's the kindof music that would rightfully play to signify his victory.

I can't wait until 12 :01 am.

i honestly feel the military is gonna be helping against whoever the enemy is, but who knows i guess.

I reckon the public and military will fear him, even though he does good deeds. But I think it will be Lois's interview with him that helps him win the trust.

I may bee way behind on this, but did anybody notice one of the extras on the Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology was this...

Deleted Scenes including the never-before-seen original opening to Superman Returns

Yup. There's a "The Complete Superman Collection Blu-ray" thread in the Misc. Superman Films section and a "The Superman Anthology on Blu Ray" thread in the Superman Returns section. I think you're the first to mention it in this thread though. I've already pre-ordered the set! Here's the trailer for those that haven't seen it.

and here's a clip I posted in the Looney Tunes thread the other day. :oldrazz:

surely, the public will cheer for him / hero saving innocent life. but the government might not.

Honest to God,if you saw an Alien, wouldnt it mess with your sanity? Even human-looking like Superman, also giving the fact he can fly, etc?

I think a realistic way,is to make some members of the public OK with it,but others have different views on Superman.

Now,what is the best way to make Lex regarding his views on Superman? Fearful or jealous?

I think the above posters suggesting Superman will be seen as a threat by the military are correct.
It's not about pessimism, it's about realism.

Imagine for a second that a flying man appears over Manhattan and starts putting out fires, rescuing planes, etc.
The reaction of the American government will be to see Superman as a threat to national security. Even if he is only doing apparently good and noble deeds, one would have to swallow a huge pill of suspension of disbelief to think that he would not be seen as a threat; it would actually be irresponsible of the government to just let Superman be Superman.
From a national security perspective, Superman may be doing good and noble deeds now, but what if he turns? That is a risk that no responsible government can take.
Imagine the reaction of other countries around the world; they may see Superman as an American threat and may want to capture him to put him down or use him as an asset, again there is another reason the American government would need to capture Superman, it is too risky to have him around out there.
I don't think the military will want to outright kill him, instead they will want to study him (perhaps to duplicate his abilities a la Captain America), understand him completely, and most importantly, know exactly how to put him down if the need does arise.
I'm sure this Superman will not allow himself to be put on any governments leash (like in the Dark Knight Returns) and there will be at best a constant tension between Superman and the governments of the world.
Big blue will be seen as a threat.
Yes, this happened in the Incredible Hulk to a certain degree but it is a completely different angle, and really, how many people (not fanboys, I mean real people) even saw and remember that under performing movie?

I think the plot is Superman vs the military.
If this were so, it takes little to imagine Lexcorp ( John Byrne's billionaire genius, Lex Luthor) assisting the military both by providing weapons to take down the man of steel as well as using leverage to portray Superman as a huge threat.

Lex could create Bizarro or Metallo to help the military fight Supes and then maybe even don the infamous battle suit for a final battle like in Avatar.

Who knows?
I just think that the opinion that the nations and governments of the world would embrace a flying god with open arms is unrealistic at best, and Snyder said this would be most realistic take on Superman ever.

Indeed if an Alien did land on earth or was discovered here on earth the militay would straight go after it. I loved Secret Origins take on Superman vs the Military

I agree. The public would love Superman I think. But the Governments of the world would definitely fear him. Lex is a bastard to stir things if he felt threatened by Supes for any reason.

MovieNewz.com says the villains/antagonists are General Sam Lane and Metallo. I don't know how to link to a website so my apologies.

Exclusive Superman Reboot Plot Details! Find out who the Man of Steel will be battling in the new Superman movie. A lot of plot rumors have been flying (no pun intended) around director Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel. Warner Bros. recently announced that Amy Adams will star in the coveted role of Lois Lane opposite Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. She joins Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, as Martha and Jonathan Kent. So far the studio hasn’t announced the antagonist(s). Every character from Superman’s rouge gallery, including a revamped Lex Luthor to ‘Superman II’ Kryptonian criminals General Zod and Ursa, have been rumored to be the next villains. Our source has provided us with new details that reveal Superman’s next opponent will be both human and superhuman. Here’s what I’ve been told:
General Sam Lane, the father of Lois Lane, is a central figure in director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. This really is as Zack described in several interviews about the film, a “real world” Superman. I’m told that when Superman arrives on the scene; people don’t know what to think. He’s an alien from another planet. What are his real intentions? He’s not human and that scares a lot of people. Here’s a guy who can fly, see through walls, is bullet proof and can lift a tank. The military views him as a potential threat to national security. They find kryptonite, pieces of his home planet, and discover its radioactive elements can be harnessed as a near unlimited source of power, both literally and figuratively. It’s a brand new form of energy that is secretly developed by the government. The military, under the direction of General Sam Lane, uses kryptonite to power an experimental cyborg super solider named Metallo. He’s ultimately exploited as a weapon against Superman.
Metallo is longtime supervillain from the Superman comic books who has appeared in several TV incarnations but never on film. I’ve also been told that (sorry fans) this will be an origin story but it will bare little resemblance to Richard Donner’s 1978 ‘Superman: The Movie’ and its sequels.
Here’s a brief synopsis:
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves..
