Yeah I am a big fan of Amy in concept as Lois. I mean we could always go for the amazonian hot looking actress like Olivia Wilde but, ultimately I think Lois needs to be played by someone who is a sweet tough person who has alot of gumption as well as natural innocence and optimism. Having a very optimistic actress lets it be easier to slip into the guise of a hard edged buisness woman, because it's being tougher than she really is. Then letting her natural innocence and optimism shine through when it needs to, then we know it's genuine because Amy has pretty genuine innocence.
That's something I've found with all the Lois Lane actresses. There isn't a single hard edge to them. Well perhaps not Margot Kidder. But even she is a warm, funny, hardworking woman.
There's something about Olivia Wilde that's just, yeah she's hot but she's not the natural sweetness that Amy is. I think it makes sense when it's shown on-screen because they suddenly seem so very in-character then you wonder why you ever doubted them in the first place. It's like, Olivia might fit the bill in terms of the hot, striking amazonian princess like she is drawn in the comics but she wouldn't be able to bring the personality to the screen that is needed. I suppose everyone was just expecting her because they thought Zack Synder casts on looks.
But I still wish she had darker hair. I don't see why she particulary needs light ginger hair. Especially since it takes away a huge aspect of Lois Lane's personality. She's just not that girl who was created way back in 1938 and was fantastically drawn by Joe Shuster. That particular image of Lois Lane is going to stay with me forever and I like to see when actresses try to fit that image as much as they possibly can. Not having dark hair is a major downfall for me not accepting her fully as the classic Lois Lane IMO.
Agree with everything you said

If you've grown up knowing Lois as a dark haired woman you're entire life, how is discovering she was a red head in the sunday comic strips going to change how you feel?
It's still going to be difficult for you as an individual to see Lois Lane in Amy, because you've never known her as a redhead.
Sure, maybe if I'd grown up reading the Sunday comic strips, or watching the George Reeves show, I'd be like 'oh cool, they're going back to ginger like they had her when I was growing up'.
But I didn't grow up with those images of Lois. In fact, most people were barely even aware of them before Amy was cast and all of a sudden they became some sort of defence.
I've grown up knowing Lois as a dark haired woman. It's just a part of how I see her. And it's quite difficult to let go of that image, because to me it is iconic.
I mean, I died my hair from blonde to brunette because I wanted to be her
