The Dark Knight Rises Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman V

Anne Hathaway is a better actress than either Rachel Dawes , why are people up in arms over this ? They just assumer she has only been in Princess Diaries and nothing else ? My god . Go rent a few of her films or go to imdb , she has more range than you all give her credit for . She has nothing to prove .

You can't improve on Pfeiffer... :awesome:

In saying that... Anne doesn't need to, because she will be doing her own unique thing under a particular vision.

She did a great job, but you could feel the heavy influence from Burton on the character. I think it worked brilliantly for Batman/Bruce, but I thought that Selina/CW went a bit off the deep end.

My apprehension of her is purely aesthetic, and for a visual medium that'as as good a reason as any. But I'm open for... nay, willing her and Nolan to change my mind.

Really ? She has the height and hair that envision of Selina Kyle If her looks are the biggest worries or flaws of the film , this will be the greatest movie of all time.

Well sure, but I have other worries on the film beyond just hathaway. :cwink:

Don't worry, I'm still as excited as anyone.

Ever since I saw Havoc back in 06' I thought she would be a perfect Catwoman. I have no doubt whatsoever she'll nail it.

I haven't seen all of her movies, but the ones I have, were really bad. Havoc was HORRIBLE, Get Smart was pretty lame, and Love or other Drugs was a snoozefest.

I don't think she's the worst actress I have ever seen, but she definitely hasn't stood out as great, either.

Right. I never understood why Hathaway got so much hate and Hardy almost got no hate. She looks alot more like Catwoman than Hardy looks like Bane, and she has a bigger resume than Hardy has. Plus speaking of accents...

Her being cast was the biggest surprise for me and her involement was the most interesting and welcome news.

Thats because the ones you've seen really are her worst films. In Havoc she exudes sex as well as uses her sexuality as a weapon which are big elements of Selina/CW, the rest of the movie is crap but she did well in it. She is consistently the best part of the films she's in, and thats a testament to her talent. Check out Rachel Getting Married if you want to see why she's widely regarded as a great actress.

Yup. Anne is better than both Gyllenhaal and Holmes combined. Haters just love to hate.

Its sad when you get to the point where you can tell whether or not a movie will be crap based on the voice actor they get to do the narration in the trailers.

LOL! Who's genius idea was it to get American actors to play English people?

Anne was never on my wish list of actresses to play Catwoman but I'm optimistic that she'll rock the role.

Every now and then I see pics of her where I don't find her attractive at all (I think it has something to do with her facial features being too big for her small face) but every actress has some bad pics every now and then so it doesn't matter. She looks gorgeous 99% anyway. Every time I feel doubtful of her, I just think of how worse it could've been *cough*JessicaBielorBlakeLively*cough*

Deadline: Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley, Blake Lively, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts (I crossed out Rachel and Naomi since I'm confident they were being considered for "Miranda Tate")

THR: Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara, Charlotte Riley, Gemma Arterton

When you look at the lists of actresses considered for Catwoman, Anne is really the obvious choice since she checks the most boxes. She has cred as an actress, she has the physique (good height, built and the figure), she brings in some star power to counter Bane being played by a not so known actor (for now) and she's mature enough to not look like Bale's kid sister.

Natalie and Keira checks most of the boxes as well (great actress, has star power, can do mature roles when needed) but IMO they don't have the physique to be a believable Catwoman (they both look too frail) plus Natalie got pregnant so that automatically cancels her out. Jessica has the physique and maturity but those are the only thing goings for her. Kate, Blake, Charlotte and Gemma all look too young to have believable chemistry with Bale and are still unproven in terms of acting.

Plus we have to remember that these actresses screen tested with Bale so I'm hopeful that Anne was the one that has the most chemistry with Bale and that was one of the huge reasons why she was picked.

Having rambled all of that, I can't wait to see official pics of her as either Selina or Catwoman. I'm hoping to see stills of her with Bale as well soon so we can have an idea on how they look like. :awesome:

Romantic comedies are often not my cup of tea in general but I really liked Love and Other Drugs and thought Anne did great in it.

Uh-huh. As far as I know, Selina Kyle's accent was never part of her character and nothing that was ever set in stone. If Miranda Tate was in the comics, would have been treated the same way probably as Catwoman. Meaning the accent would never be mention, and if that was the cast my guess is you would have assumed her accent was american and you would have been against Marion playing that character.
If Miranda Tate had been in the comics, I doubt that she'd have 70 years of history behind her like Selina does.

And I do assume that a character who lives in and grew up in Gotham City, an American city, has an American accent. That is the case with Catwoman. Only Christopher Nolan knows Miranda Tate's background, so I can't comment on that. But in addition to always being played or voiced by an American actress, Selina Kyle has a history that's been covered in the comic books, such as her living in and escaping from a Gotham City orphanage when she's a little girl. If you dislike that history because it doesn't accommodate your preferred actress, so be it, but it is what it is. And I can assure you that I'd be irate if an American actor who's unable to pull off a convincing British accent were chosen to play Alfred. You can say that comic book characters don't have accents, and that is true to a point because comics aren't an aural medium, but with characters like Alfred, Batman, and Catwoman, the accent is implied.

If this weren't an issue that Christopher Nolan considered important, I doubt that he'd have had Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Cillian Murphy, and Gary Oldman putting on American accents for their roles.

Just saw Love And Other Drugs last night. Didn't enjoy the movie as a whole but that wasn't Anne's fault, I thought she was great. I don't like Jake Gyllenhaal, I dunno, never been a fan.

You aren't serious are you?

Why wouldn't he be? He's 100% correct.

Hathaway is a beautiful, tall, caucasian female with brunette hair.

Bane is a musclebound south american. Hardy doesn't resemble him physically at all.

How can you deduce what he looks like? He's dramatically drawn to be bigger than any possible human being and wears a mask.

No one looks like him; it's an unfair comparison

You're talking about their faces? Selina, like any comic character, is drawn differently by different artists. She has no defined face. What is defined is that she's beautiful, tall, white, and a brunette.

Bane looks like a massive musclebound latino. If we were casting Bane for appearences only, someone like Dave Batista would have been a solid choice. But since we don't want a pro wrestler ruining the movie with his lack of talent, they made a choice for relative departure from the traditional appearence. It's a compromise in favor of quality.

How anyone could say with any sort of conviction that Anne looks less like Catwoman than Hardy looks like Bane is beyond me.

Provide me with proof where I said that.

I think it's just a silly comparison. of course she looks more like Catwoman Catwoman isn't obscured by a mask and inhuman features all the time.

His skin is...tan, maybe brown depending on the depiction...big whoop; not really a defining, solid feature.

No one looks like Bane.

Bane is giant with 400 pounds of muscle. Are YOU serious?

Im getting tired of this discussion so i think we should end it. You obviously think its very important that the character is born american and speaks with an american accent, and to me this is such a minor detail and Im clueless how you can find it so important. But different strokes and whatever.
