Do anyone know why some of the arrow writer left in season 2? budget cuts? or some other reason? I

wonder if Arrow would benefit in some new writers because they have to share with The Flash and LOT This season, we got one in Speed Weed. Episode 16 is also having two new writers so I guess that good? But these new writer episode 16 has zero to no writing credit...

I think a major change was the trinity splitting up. AK/GB/MG, they seemed to compliment each other well enough and S1-2 was when all 3 were still with the show full time.

I'm still waiting for an explanation on his ties with the Russian mob.

Taiana's Russian, yeah?

My guess is that when she dies, her dying request is that she take...something...back to her family, even if it's just word of her and Vlad's death. While there he runs into Anatoly, and this sets up the Russian mob ties for the S5 plotline. Maybe he even gets thrown in the bratva and a lot of time passes, explaining his hair and beard growth. Then, he determines it's time to return to Starling, so he goes back to the island to wait for a passing boat.

This is pretty much how I feel. It seems to me that Berlanti and Kreisberg "held back" Guggenheim's more, how do I put this, radical storytelling? They were also involved in the decision-making for each episode alongside Marc in Seasons 1 and 2... Season 3 and this season they only get involved for the big moments... which is one reason why, if it does end up being Laurel in the grave, I might just be able to buy it since I would assume that is something they all decided on and not just MG.....

In regards to the Russian mob: the thing I find crazy is there has been no retaliation against Oliver since he burned those bridges in Season 2.

Watching the first season again, on episode 2. I still love this show, but it used to feel so much more focused. They still nail out their stories and character stuff, but back then it felt like they just put more time into the fights and scenes in general. Mapping out the best way for a character to enter the scene, framing things differently as opposed to just pointing and shooting. Guess it's because of their heavier workload.

I agree completely with what you are saying. I have been re-watching the older seasons recently too, and in season 3, you notice a difference. The writing becomes more careless and sloppy. There are a lot of moments where a character says something that contradicts something that happened in an earlier episode (sometimes in the episode right before it, and it stands out a lot more when you are watching episodes back to back). Characters at times, seem all over the place. Ra's is barely in the season too. They do not have him in the season until it is too late IMO. I still enjoyed season 3 and I think there was more good than bad in that season, but it is a shame that Ra's and the LOA did not feature in a season of better quality. Villains of their stature should have done IMO.

Anyone think that Arrow now feels like the odd one out of all the shows (Flash, Legends and Supergirl)? They all deal with other worlds, time and space travel, while Arrow is the most street level?

If you just came in now without having watched any of them before, it could be hard to believe that Arrow inhabits the same universe if you didn't see any crossover elements.

Also, Arrow seems to have the darkest tone out of all 4.

I still think season 4 is much better than season 3, but I probably wouldn't be watching anymore if it weren't for the Flash/Legends/Vixen/Constantine crossovers.

Most of these events in Arrow eps also seem to correlate with a bump in ratings, likely meaning that non-regular viewers tune in for these events. So yeah, I can see where someone who has been watching all along but is not as invested as he/she used to be, might still hang in there, with the thought that they have some "highlights" to look forward to as incentive.

I agree that it is the odd one out, but I think it is good that these shows are all different, in terms of tone and the type of threat the hero has to deal with. You could say the same about Batman, when it comes to other JL members. He is the odd one out in a way. Green Arrow is the Batman of this universe.

The DC universe is like the Greek pantheon, and what adds to Batman's mystique as well as the other human heroes is them hanging with the Gods.

To me, that's just comics. They should embrace a variety of styles. If anything, my complaint is the similarities of the other shows - particularly Supergirl and Flash, I think LoT has a different enough tone through the team dynamic and timetravel to set itself apart.

You get the occasional metahuman like Double Down that shows Arrow can embrace the fantastical. Hell, you have magic to do the same. Keep in mind that Vixen didn't show up on Flash, she showed up on Arrow. I'd also argue the Vixen cartoon was closer to Arrow's tone than Flash's tone.

I like that Arrow separates itself from those other shows. If I wanted that stuff, I'd watch that stuff.

anyone notice they got rid of two magical element? The lazarus pit and destroy the magical idol. Without those, the show kinda returning to season 2 where it more realistic/grounded territory.

The genie is out of the bottle they can never really go back to that tone they did in the first season.

I don't know if any of you guys follow him, but Charlie a.k.a. Emergency Awesome, offered his thoughts on who is in the grave.

Everything he says makes sense, and it's the direction I expect them to go. But you never know with the current showrunners.

Yeah I follow Charlie on YouTube he's real good, he fills in a lot of the gaps for Game of Thrones for me.

The first season of this show was excellent, the second season was also very good. It's a shame to see what has become of this show. I'm still hopeful they can turn things around somehow.

Emergency Awesome is awesome. I am a fan of him and his channel. He is very rational, speaks a lot of sense in his videos and does not come out with the usual fanboy drivel, which is not common for us nerds.

Well, not that I've had time to cool down I'll just look forward to the positives. I'm curious to see what Genesis will be all about,it's a shame Arrow doesn't devote much time to this stuff.

Wise decisions imo,I was always against the pit because I knew it would be just a plot device and that's exactly what it was. The magic thing with Darhk atleast wasn't working at all(jury is still out on Reiter),his abilities are just weird and undefined, frankly not even appealing or exciting to look at in combat situations.
Time to go back to the gritty street level stuff, none of this mumbo jumbo gimmick.

We need more fans like Emergency Awesome who is neutral instead of too positive or too negative.

Yep. Remember the days when Ollie could fight a room full of dudes? Now he doesn't shoot arrows and he just spins around in choreography that looks like it was leftovers from Power Rangers/Putty fights.

The format of each episode is the same now.

"Thea, check the crime scene!"
"Laurel, check with the SCPD and your dad!"
"Diggle, check with Lyla and ARGUS!"

*cue Olicity melodrama*
