The writers are to blame. They should have had Laurel learn about Oliver's secret after Betrayal and started her on the BC path then. If they wanted Tommy could have still died while she was off doing something to help Oliver in the finale. They wasted the 5 month gap between seasons when she could have been training with somebody even if they didn't reveal the secret. And the whole giving her a sister for Oliver to sleep with in the first place was a stupid idea.

I agree that was the first major misstep.

But,you guys have to remember, this is a show we're hoping will last 5+ seasons. You've got to give them time to do storylines.I think they're afraid to push the "Laurel becomes BC" story until they get a few seasons under their belt.

I mean once the two leads are finally together, that's usually the kiss of death for a series and I'm sure they know that.

No need to push Laurel into becoming the Canary too fast. Heck, they shouldn't even have introduced Laurel in Season 1 to begin with. I don't mind them taking it slow with specific story lines. But when Laurel is supposed to become the ultimate love interest and heroine, why start out by making her the least likable character on the show?

Well wasn't Tommy meant to become the ultimate villain of the series, but he died and died a tragic hero. Why is it absolutely imperative that KC becomes the heroine and love interest in the end? When the end is already decided, it makes everything else a bit pointless. They should just have it open ended and see where it goes. That way it can actually grow naturally instead of shoe-horning certain characters into certain roles or situations, especially when KC isn't even likeable.

So, I've never been one much to worry when a creative team - be it on comics, books, shows, etc, has things evolve. Even if it goes back on something previously said - my personal opinion is, that as long as it improves the FEEL of the story, or the world, then go for it. Ideas evolve as time and fan feedback occurs.

Want to add super powers now? Do it.

Want to change BC? Do it.

I've been wondering if Sara won't be Dinah Drake. Especially now that we know the synopsis of League of Assassins.

Maybe, in BC's case, it's a pseudonym. Dinah for her sister (who she realizes she royally screwed over and betrayed). She could then be Dinah Lance, or didn't they say their mother's maiden name was Drake? Been awhile...

As for why she hasn't been back home...well, plenty of reasons. If they go with facial reconstructive surgery to explain a difference in appearance, and several years gone - well, that's part of her old life. Oliver desperately wanted that back (or at least at times seemed to) Who said she does? Maybe she did it to keep them safe, and after what happened in the Glades things she can do it better in person.

Either way, as long as the character has the FEEL of Canary, it should be good. I don't care if it's Laurel, or Sara, or their Mom...or anyone. She has to be a A kick ass martial artist/tough chick who can (and should) kick Ollie's green-hooded-behind in a hand to hand fight and in a conersation. Just like Dinah would in the comics.

They already changed so much as they went along. Added more Felicity, killed Tommy, changed Deathstroke into Billy Wintergreen and introduced the real Slade, Yao Fei got killed early and didn't end up as Ollie's teacher, the Book became irrelevant 2/3 into the first season I think.

When they realize that their goal that they set themselves isn't optimal anymore, they should just change it.

Netflix released this on their instant cue finally and I watched the first two episodes of Season 1 last night. I have to say, I like it so far. I'm not a huge DC fan other then Batman, but it's starting to make me want to read some Green Arrow comics.
Ditto. There's only a handful of DC characters I like & most of them are Batman related. I enjoy this show & can tolerate it's CWness :)
I just read on a Facebook page that Nightwing has been confirmed to be making an appearance this season. Not sure if its true or not
Quite possibly my fave DC character. I hope his mask doesn't look too silly in live action.
I just don't understand why a fighter like Canary would wear fishnets. They are simply not practical. They would rip all the time. And they don't protect your legs when you have to slide across the ground.
Nah. I saw some chick fighting in fishnets do that last week & she was fine. Legs bled a lil bit & she went to the hospital afterwards but she was cool. :) Seriously tho. We don't need the fishnets
Loved the different trick arrows tonight that was a delight. I hope there is more to bronze tiger than him just wanting a fight.
Ditto. Wasn't expecting him to be a villain. What was the motivation for the bad guys to keep hijacking the meds?

Loved this week's ep and the "Oh no!" type ending. Interactions between Ollie and Roy were great as well as Bronze Tiger. Hope we see him again. Two episodes in and this season's been solid, can't wait for Canary next week.

The show trended worldwide on Twitter on Tuesday and rose a big 22% in the key demo and 10% in the overall ratings for 3mill viewers. Well deserved too. Show keeps getting better.

Bronze Tiger needs to get himself a bronze costume... or maybe more orange, with some brown, and tiger stripes. And he could have a pointy mask too and mutton chops.

Great episode. Love Bronze Tiger and really loving Roy Harper

When was it stated that Tommy was supposed to be the main villain initially? Malcolm gave off the "he was ALWAYS supposed to be the bad guy" vibe.

I think people were basing that off Smallville and the Luthors.

I remember when Tommy was announced as being Ollie's best friend people originally thought he'd later turn on Ollie and go by Merlyn.

Well they haven't taken that route with a former girlfriend in one of these shows yet. So maybe they'll do that with Katie Cassidy. Make her the villain so that it's different from the hero's best friend turning bad. That's the only way I can even see her character become more popular, by being the person everyone loves to hate as one of the big bads of the series.

Laurel turning into a full fledged villain is the only thing I can see actually working quite well for the show. And it'd be so ironic. The best friend who had all reason to turn to the dark side, stayed a decent guy until the very end. But the love of his life, distraught over Tommy's death, turns into one of his biggest adversaries.

Well she would be able to play a villain better than she can play Black Canary. She can be the heartless ***** who will act maliciously against Ollie and his friends. Maybe he might think he'll see glimpses of Season 1 Laurel occasionally, but it could all be an act because she's too far gone. I hope the writers go this route with her. How often have they ever done that in a show - turning the love interest into the big bad?

People were still speculating that up until about 45 minutes into the finale.

Did I read that earlier post correctly, Nightwing is going to appear in this season? :wow:

just found this picture...
as far as fashion tips from the Canary are concerned, I'd like to see this interaction between her and Gustin's Flash ;)

Of course the irony with that is he actually has hi tech police scanners built into them....one of the multiple purposes they serve. True story. Canary's heels? Not so much.

;) :D

And Mark Waid knows this I'm sure....but nevertheless, it was still a funny scene.

In the current BOP comic, Christy Marx TRIES to explain the fishnets by saying that they're some super-advanced, lightweight fiber that also incredible strong and durable. It doesn't work, but at least she made an ATTEMPT to explain them, which is more than most writers bother to do.

I agree that was the first major misstep.
The first major misstep is that they made Laurel Rachel Dawes. Laurel as Rachel Dawes is the rot that starts in the roots and poisons every other part of the plant. The existence of Sara and the fact that Ollie was banging her is less important (although a cynical me would say that it's clever of the showrunners to have built in a backup Lance girl) because Laurel as Rachel Dawes just doesn't work as a character. And this can be seen by how poorly she was integrated into the larger plot last season (she wasn't) and how this season she's included in the fun by becoming a full on (stupid) antagonist for Team Arrow.

Of course, Oliver having cheated on Laurel with her sister should have deep sixed the Oliver/Laurel relationship, but given a better character design Laurel could still have worked as a character.

I like this idea of making Laurel the villain, twisting the original perceptions of the show's progression. Plus it makes it easier for the Oliver/Felicity pairing we all want to actually happen.

On another note, I just had this random thought. Do any of you think the show has room for:

Question.png

I for one want to see him on the show, does anyone agree with the question? :p(pun intended)

The Question would be awesome on the show. Maybe they could repeat the Question/Huntress pairing from JLU.

That's what I was thinking, she obviously had to change her name. Since Sara Lance is dead. So she could be going by the last name Drake. Making her the Black Canary from the comics.

With what they released about Canary's back story, I don't even see how it's possible for Laurel to even reach her level without disappearing for awhile to train. Safe contained training in gym doesn't compare to hard core secret society of assassins training.

And the biggest factor for me with keeping Sara as the Canary is the hired an actress with martial arts skills. I know Stephen trained to play Arrow before the show started. But Caity Lotz has been training a lot longer so she probably is better than him at hand to hand combat (like the Canary is supposed to be) She's known for her b-girl and tricking skills. Their aren't many girl trickers out there and she is one of them.
