Arrow Arrow General Discussion Thread - Part 6

I just started watching this show (via netflix) and I'm loving what I've been seeing so far. But am I the only one that finds the women on this show a bit snide and self-righteous? The guy came back after being thought dead for five years, and both his sister and Dinah...eeerr Laurel..constantly whine and nag him to death about matters that, I feel, he has a right to indulge in after whatever tropical holocaust he suffered. Laurel's getting a little better as the show progresses, but his sister just seems inherently *****y....all the time. She nags him about letting him in, then when the guy says he just needs some time she nags him AGAIN about giving him time to let peoople in. He finds her at a club, and she, in a drunken fit of whatever the hell she turned into, she blabs about a relationship Laurel had with (generic best friend, forget dude's name.) It's like watching Lana Lang all over again..except turned all the way up. Am I the ONLY person here who feels this way? Anyone? ANYONE?

I feel the same way, bro. I understand why some people think this show is "soap opera-ish". There's always some poorly developed teenage drama that doesn't add **** to the plot/characters (usually revolving around Laurel or Thea). That's my only big issue with Arrow.

All superhero comics have a lot of soap opera elements to them, so using that term as a complaint has always puzzled me.

I quite like the costume actually, he doesn't exactly want to stand out too much. Just please, if you cant give him an actual mask at least give him sun/night vision glasses.

Yeah I don't get that either the B-story/ love story is apart of every formula in story telling. Which extends to comic books just as much as any other genre.

Thea actually is a teenager, though, so even though she can be annoying, I feel like it's kind of justified.

Honestly can't see him being called 'Green Arrow' this season... I suspect they'll just label him 'Arrow'

Yeah I think he'll go with Arrow as well given that's the name of the show.

I agree, it's weird.

To me there's a difference between "Superhero" soap and generic/CW soap.

The stuff with Thea trying to "hurt" her mom (which has happened, what 3 times already?) or Ollie & Laurel's constant off and on butting heads over his cheating with Sarah and her subsequent death,is more the latter.

The Ollie,Laurel,Tommy triangle or Thea's constant efforts to keep Roy from risking his life as a crime-fighter is more standard Superhero fare.I expect it,and have an easier time with it,I suppose.

Well I imagine when Ollie is wracking his brains to come up with a new name, somehow the most obvious one "Arrow" just won't come to him. Instead he'll see all these other things first and might call himself "Quiver" or "Sheath"... until Felicity tells him these sound like names of condoms.
:lmao: That would be a HORRIBLE name, makes it sound like he's scared and shaking uncontrollably
I'd be fine with it, if he doesn't change his costume at all. Except for the added mask. But if he changes it, I wouldn't mind if he moves a teensy bit into this direction.

Not an archer so, is there a reason for the quilted material? Reminds me of the Shocker except his excuse was that it absorbs the impact of his weapons

Most likely based on medieval quilted armor, a light armor archers and sometimes the lower class men-at-arms wore. Not all that preotective against swords and the like, but the idea was it was cheap, had some more protection than regular clothing, and allowed for freedom of movement and speed, pretty much archers were not meant to enter into close combat, where this type of armor wasn't that great.

I wonder if we'll ever get the mask and Robin Hood facial hair

Some people always have to whine about something, specially in the internet. Anyway, sometimes comics are even more ridiculous with their drama, so nothing new.

I just don't like the way it's written in this TV series. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying it.

I'm not whining. No one is obliged to like everything about Arrow. Constructive criticism is good.

Didn't he have something resembling that in the pilot when he was just about to get off the island (which they also used in Season 1 for the intro which began "My name is Michael Weston... I used to be a spy" "My name is Oliver Queen... for five years I was stranded on an island.")

No, the Thea stuff is "my mom was involved with something that destroyed a large part of the city and killed/maimed God knows how many people, and she knew who killed my father the whole time." I'd say her reaction is perfectly understandable.

I'm just glad they got that over with in the first Episode. She knew the reason her mother did what she did. It was to keep the family safe. But of course she had to try to hate her first, so we got the standard amount of drama out of the situation.

But they already played that card with Thea before. It felt like a giant step backward to go through it again. They need to keep moving her character forward. All the characters (but her) are moving forward.(At least from what can be seen in one episode)

I can't wait till we get to see the Flash, that's going to be awesome. I wonder how his super speed will look, probably like the Blur from Smallville I would imagine

Maybe they won't call him The Flash, but somehow the unimaginative people of Starling City will also come up with the name "The Blur." After all, they came up with "The Hood" instead of "Arrow" or "Green Arrow." :hehe:

On the subject of Ollie's suit, I for one would like for him to get a new one.

At the very least, something more sophisticated.

The suit he currently has is very crude, and it incorporates the hood on the island.

Great for sentimental reasons, but it gives the whole suit, literally, a stitched together look. And not in a good way.

Something more sophisticated and streamlined, while adhering to that basic design, wood be fine.

Maybe they'll give him Justin Hartley's suit from Smallville. :hehe:

I don't think it was terrible, but that stupid cup/thing thing they had on it was dreadful.

Besides that, the Smallville design was decent.

Blame Oliver...when he was kidnapped he told the police a man in a hood saved him. Since no one had arrows in them they kept with the hood as an identifying name.

In every interview I've read they said he'd be called the flash
