Except that organic shooters make no goddamn sense, anatomically speaking. Also, he created a webshooter out of old watches and a microchip. I'd say that showed his genius.
well, the concept of a kid getting spider-like powers doesn't really make much sense, either.

and the signature ability of spiders, the ability to produce webbing, is the one power he fails to get?
and if he's not even going to create the web fluid himself, then why bother?? just make it organic.
I still think the best compromise is for him to develop the ability to produce organic webbing ( maybe even shoot it out ). But, he finds it's hard to aim/control, or that it is taxing on his body to constantly fire the webs.
so, he creates the cartridges to store the webs ( so he doesn't have to constantly produce them ). and a mech shooter to aim and control the webs.
the best of both worlds.
as an alternative, I would have made the web fluid formula something his father was working on, but didn't finish or perfect ( similar to the Ultimate Comics story ). Peter finds the formula in his dad's old briefcase and sets out to complete/perfect formula to create the web fluid himself.
it would have been alot better than him copying/reverse engineering the stuff from Oscorp, or, worse, just ordering them off the internet.....
