I'm chalking it up to the writer of the article's unfamiliarity with the games. Granted, Desmond kinda of does "time-travel" so it isn't off the mark. Though if they do get rid of the DNA-memory, I can only assume that Desmond would take on the role of his ancestor in some way, as opposed to just being Desmond trying to blend in. From a character standpoint, I can see why they might want to go that route - wanting to be able to see Desmond's reactions to the world around him, being our "eyes" and "ears" in that world as opposed to just being a guy who sits in a chair for the whole movie (which would be a waste of the Fass' talent). I would prefer the original way, but would not be up in arms if they chose the more traditional sci-fi time-travel route. It would explain a fundamental flaw in the games' logic: If Desmond is merely reliving (ie: watching) Ezio's memories, how is it that "we" (Desmond) are able to control Ezio? Hell, even the other characters tell Desmond to "do" stuff within Ezio's memories, but if they're just memories, there's NO way for you/Desmond to have any control over Ezio's actions."Plot revolves around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins after he is kidnapped by a secret org with ties to the Knights Templar, and sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts."

If time travel is involved, then it's already been ruined.
This makes me wonder, though...Since both Altiar and Ezio look just like Desmond, will Fassbender play dual roles (if they remain true to the DNA memory of the games)? Or would they get different actors?
