I hope you're right.

I want to make this plain.....I'm not posting like we see many do on here....I am not hating the movie and posting negative stuff to back that up....I LIKED the movie but posting the negative stuff I saw because it truly worries me about the BO potential.

If that was my theater going experience I'd likely have my concerns as well, but I think the next few days will help shake those fears away. We'll see what negative impact there may be on the box office/WOM, but like I said I'm predicting that any backlash this film might have will be fairly minimal.

But let's define BO potential. The movie is going to be a giant billion dollar film regardless. Even if it has bad legs, like speculated in your example. The movie isn't going to flop. At worst, it would likely do AoU esque numbers on bad legs, and Avengers 4 likely following suit. Now if we're talking will it fall short of Avengers 1 based on it having this type of ending, that could be a conversation once we see the OW vs weekend 2.

Do you think that the general audience spends hours every day reading about upcoming superhero movies? WE know this was PART ONE....WE know things will be reversed....WE know what is going on....THEY see commercials for AVENGERS INFINITY WAR that plays it up as giant triumphant fight of the heroes vs the evil villain.....and see their heroes die.

I've seen several people on here say.....once they read THANOS WILL RETURN at the end they will know what is going on....well, I saw a whole hell of a lot of people leave before that. They hung around for awhile, because you always get a couple of extra scenes during credits.....but when the scenes didn't come right after the end, then didn't come after the acting credits....they left. I will say it again....I'm afraid that Marvel made some big mistakes here....I hope I'm wrong, I won't the movie to make billions and be loved by all....but I'm worried about what I saw with audience reactions.

I just find it completely unimaginable that people would be angry. Like actually, visibly angry. It's a movie. A piece of fiction. Christ there must have been an absolute riot at your cinema when people saw The Lion King. Should they have put a sign up at the door saying "don't get too attached to the Dad"?

Characters die in movies all the time and don't get the chance to come back. At least in this case, they will get that chance and people will become aware of it one way or another and then feel a little bit silly that they were mad over it in the first place.

I mean....look what just happened with the Last Jedi. I think we've seen what happens sometimes when bold upsetting creative choices are made.

Saw it last night. Wanted to wait til today to give yinz my thoughts.

WOW! What a ride. Brutal from start to finish. Thanos will go down in history as one the best cinematic villains of all time. So many emotions. Glad I went into this mostly spoiler free... that Red Skull cameo had me floored! Never would've imagined he'd be in this. And making him the keeper of the Soul Stone was brilliant! Loved everything about that scene.

More things I loved:

Thanos (obviously)
Thors journey with Groot and Rabbit
Red Skull
Tony and Strange's back and fourth banter.
Wanda and Vision.
Every scene with the guardians.
The Iron-Spider suit
Parkers good-bye to Tony at the end... heartbreaking
Thors entrance into Wakanda
Everything in Waknada... including the ending.

Things I didn't like:

Tony and Steve not even talking once. Although I know they must be saving their reunion for A4.
Cap as a whole was pretty useless/unutilized.
Cap should've been killed by Thanos' punch. Would've been a much more dramatic ending if the remaining Wakanda heroes gathered around a lifeless Cap... wondering what they're gonna do next.
I wish Thor used more "lightning" in that final battle, instead of relying on StormBreaker so much.
And Banner not being able to turn into Hulk was stupid. It made zero sense.

But overall, I loved this movie. As of right now, It's my favorite MCU movie, and tied with Logan as my favorite superhero movie.

9/10

ONE LAST THING!!!! Is the gauntlet destroyed now??? If so, why??? Just because he snapped his fingers???

I will say that I was super frustrated with the Hulk. He only showed up once. And didn't want to come out from Banner. Leaving Banner to do a lot of the heavy lifting.

He needs to come out strong in the next film.

Yeah but to be fair, the Hulk is child-like, and he hadn't come across someone who rag-dolled him like he did to Loki. I'd be afraid to come out again too lol.

But there is still a scene at the end of the credits of IW. That's always been a staple of Marvel movies. You stay at the end. If those people walked out right after the movie... then that's on them.

In last bunch of MCU films.....movie ends happily, credits start, extra scene, credits start again, credits play a little bit, extra scene, credits continue to end, extra scene.

In this one....people are absolutely flabbergasted and stunned by the downer ending, credits start, credits continue, credits continue, credits continue, credits continue, credits end, extra scene.

People at my showing walked out before the final scene, because I think after the way it ended and then none of the early extra scenes they were used to, they decided there wouldn't be any.

If it falls short of the Avengers total box office then I think that could be seen as a minor disappointment. They'll still be in the green and have made a ton of money, but the goal was to make the biggest Marvel movie ever this time around.

That said, even if it does fall short of that 1.5 billion number.... I'm still so glad they made it how they did.

I mean he went up against Surtur. And wanted to keep fighting him.

But the way Thanos kicked his ass was akin to seeing a one-sided MMA fight. I wouldn't want to see a rematch of that again.

There's a good chance we've seen Banner/Hulk footage from Avengers 4 movie already. Remember that shot where he's fixing the Hulkbuster suit?

9/10 for me for now, potentially higher. This could be my favorite MCU movie. Thanos was phenomenal. The entire cast was great, I got to see Spidey in an Avengers movie. I can now die a happy man.

Cap vs Thanos fight was a bit letdown. There wasn't much more than we saw in the trailers.

My response to that would be similar to Nick Fury's when he started melting away.

"Motherf--"

I agree. I don't know really what I would have wanted them to change about this one and how it ended. At the end of the day, we're getting Avengers 4! Again, I see this as half a story, not a full one. I honestly don't feel I can properly rate this movie until we see Avengers 4. But, boy was this one hell of a Part 1! So good foundation for Avengers 4 to build on

This movie is gonna make a billion without breaking a sweat.

Even if it suffers because of the dark ending, I feel like Marvel and the creative team just made a calculated bet that pays off big for them.

'Hey what if we sacrifice maybe half a billion by making Avengers 3 the biggest troll move of all time, but that will guarantee us 2 BILLION with Avengers 4?'

I don't think there's anything they could have done better with this movie. I was pretty perfect for me, after just one viewing. Can't wait to see it again.

So is the Gauntlet destroyed??? I'm confused by what happend to it after the finger snap...

I think that's what they were going for, both financially and creatively. The huge heroic payoff will be in A4 (coupled with a few and franchise-impacting permadeaths).

Except she doesn't watch half of her village die. She despises Thanos even with that whole spiel she's aware of or doesn't recall because she was a kid at the time and all of this is after the fact.
I saw a random little girl become his daughter.

The "random little girl" was torn from her mother's arms and had the stones to walk up to Thanos. That's not a random little girl, that's a little girl with gumption. He admired that and took her under his wing. The movie makes that very clear, so is that what you're inquiring about? She also had some idea as to what was going on because she is clearly within earshot of the dying villagers and was, again, violently ripped from her mother's arms.

I would say that they are not equating A character dying in A movie the same as a favorite character they have seen in several movies dying. Someone may "get upset" that a character they have just been introduced to in the movie they are now watching for the first time dying....but will "get angry" that the character they have been watching in multiple movies over several years dies. I keep saying this....the general audience does not spend hours a day reading internet sites about their favorite superheroes. All the general audience knows about the superhero movie they are watching is what was in the last superhero movie they watched.

It's likely very badly damaged from the sheer amount of power used in the act of the finger snap.

Agreed, we don't know if it is just badly damaged or outright done, LOL! I am going with damaged.
