Yes it does. In the 70 plus years of Marvel comics at some point or another, fans have seen their favorite character dumped on and written poorly for a period of time. From Captain America to Spider-Man to Iceman to tons of others.....and now Thor.

If it makes "zero sense" to you, then try explaining why instead of doing a one line hit and run.

We already had those couple decades where Thor went from an even rival to the Hulk to little more than the Hulk's punching bag. From chasing Galactus away with a god blast to easily being dispatched by Thanos almost every time they met. From the #1 powerhouse of the Avengers to little more than a footnote in their comic. Thor's been s*** on plenty and surprisingly consistently over the years. The last few years, from JMS' relaunch to the present, have been more of an exception than the rule.

I remember Eric Masterson being Thor for a lot of those fights with Thanos. Yeah, he had the power of Thor but was not as experienced. I remember him going through some growing pains especially in issues of the Avengers. It was actually fun to read a guy that looked like Thor experience a learning curve.

I don't ever remember Thor being a footnote in the Avengers, not while Stern, Simonson, Busiek or Johns were writing him, although Thor was absent when Johns was on the book due to what Jurgens was doing in the Thor solo. He was awesome in Standoff.

The only real times I've read a substandard Thor was the Ellis days and recent years.

Busiek used Thor for like 10 issues of his run, total. That was one of the reasons I kind of got bored of Busiek's run at various points--they were the periods where Thor was absent.

It was more like about 40. 40 out of Busiek's like, 50-60 issue run...

Yeah there were a few times he was absent but you're overstating it a little.

No, but I have to admit as a fan, Im loving the push they've gotten, especially Illyana who's hanging with the A-listers and her role as one of the most vital X-man being realized

Okay this is just f***ing ridiculous. I'm starting to think Thor was better off dead in that land of forgotten gods or wherever the Hell he was after Fear Itself.

And this whole stupid event continues to be epic fail.

Rename the event editors vs Thor? I dunno. Thor has lost a few fights--more than a few-- but he has also gotten some great wins! I'm not so down on Thor losing to the P5/4. Not every Thor loss is legitimate, but these are most likely legitimate.

In any case, I think this event should be called Editors vs Emma Frost. She's being drug through the mud hardcore and it looks like issue 9 will make it worse. Thor gets Casaday art and a book that ships 2x a month, plus his own titles (rumor is Gillen will be doing more Asgardian stuff).

I hope Emma makes it out of AvX alive but it seems that her current track is going to basically be a sop to everyone who says "oh she's a villain." As a big Emma booster I can't stand what they are doing to her. What makes it worse is that she is basically being set up as a sacrifice to Cyclops. Really, it's crazy.

Eh, I'm over Thor getting his ass kicked. Honestly, like I said, outside of the past 5 years or so since his relaunch, Thor's gotten his ass kicked a lot. It's just something you have to get used to with any heavyweight character, really; they lose in stupid ways all the time because writers interpret their power levels differently or just plain don't get them.

Again its not the fact that Thor is getting beat by these characters thats the issue. Its that it happens EVERY other week. He's been absolutely useless and pathetic this entire crossover. He's nothing more than Marvel's whipping boy for the duration of the summer

That will change with time. And it isn't like Thor won't get his own books and specials where he will get to do some crazy feats. And who knows what will happen in Uncanny Avengers?

As I've said earlier, what's happening to Thor, from this Thor fan's perspective, is nothing compared to what they are doing to Emma (first and fore-most) and to some of the other P5 characters. They've all been reduced to walking plot devices. Cyclops comes off a little better than the rest-- at least he isn't being run through the mud like Emma-- but even his character development has been washed away in this event to the point where he isn't enjoyable, not because he's evil, but because he's just "there" watching the world fall apart around him.

True, but this is just the latest in a long line of pathetically one-sided fights where Thor loses. Two Phoenix-empowered X-Men, sure. One? It seems like he should at least be able to put up a fight, but no, Emma owned him hard. Rachel without the Phoenix Force owned him in Wolverine and the X-Men. The full Phoenix Force nearly killed him like 3 times before that. It's like watching him run into a wall over and over and over again and never learn from it.
