mmmmm...no. The Box Office should be important for the studios, not to you. You should care about the quality of the movie.
Yeah, but I didn't say anything about myself, did I?

considering POTC 2 was terrible, SM3 will own. Also, SM has decades worth of fans, POTC has lots of teenage girls.......

Thats so silly Cyrus for a supposed smart guy,you don't make 1 billion on teenage girls and so far POTC has killed at the BO,your view on it's quality is irrelevant in this debate,we are talking facts and figures.
But POTC is a new craze, whilst SM has built up a massive fanbase over half a century. I think a lot more people wanna see venom and sandman than keith richards.
Also, general opinion on the streets is that SM3 looks to be the best of the trilogy and look how the other did in the box office! Not too mention all the die hard raimi and bruce fans out there.

They want to see Jack Sparrow more than any of those you mentioned
What streets are these ?surely by Bruce you aren't meaning Campbell ?
Just what is the "street" opinion that you use coming from? Have you done polls? Have you done studies? Didn't think so. And Superman has a century worth of fans...look how much good that did it. All the Spider-Man fans and die-hard Sam Raimi fans can see this movie 3 times each and the fact is, it would probably earn it about 10 million at the box office...if its lucky. And believe it or not, Sandman means jack to the public. Venom means a little bit more...but not that much, especially being as he was cut from the trailer, most people aren't even aware he is in it.
Hey Hunter, am I the only one having de ja vu? This all seems so familiar
But seriously guys, I'm not even calling it for Pirates, it is too close call right now...but to write Pirates off is just foolish. Look where it got the Superman fans.
Well I don't know anyone in real life who like POTC 2, and everyone likes SM and knows venom is in it. Spider-man the animated series was basically the best cartoon for children in the 90's and has made a lasting impression on the general public. POTC will be harmed by the poor quality of the second movie, most people on here believe POTC 2 is worse than POTC1 even if they like it. And you have to also consider the trailer for SM3 has been pumped into people quite well and people have reacted massively to it, people clapping etc at a Trailer? WTF??? I don't know! But my best mate work in a cinema, and no-one is talking about POTC even though they have a massive poster, the focus us hugely on SM3.
And sandman doesn't mean that much to people, then they see the trailer, then people go WOW. IT's how things have been going.
Oh yeah man it's like i'm checking my calendar to make sure it's not 2006t:
I don't think any of these movies will "own" each other in fact i see them all making less than their potential but until POTC3 gets it's trailer out there it's to soon to judge and IMO the mainstream only need a couple of months hype and promo to get interested, only fanboys want trailers and such 6 and 7 months ahead of release.
Again, a movie does not make 1 Billion Dollars without good word of mouth. Apparently Pirates found people who liked it...and there were quite a few.
As for clapping to a trailer...in my experience, and I'm not calling you a liar...but in my experience...most people here who claim that (and I have seen quite a few "Trailer reaction" threads in my 7 years on the Hype) are overexaggerating the reaction if not just straight out making it up. I go to movies nearly every weekend and never had an audience who applauded a trailer.
As for your friend who works in a cinema, does that suddenly make him a box-office expert? I don't generally talk to people who work in theaters about movies.![]()
Finally, your cartoon statement is arguable. I can name about 5 cartoons off the top of my head from the early to mid-90s that were much more influential.
Hah, thats the truth...I remember people in the Oscar thread getting worked up because Gwynth Paltrow didn't mention Iron Man when she presented. I'm just like "WTF? Who plugs a movie while presenting at the Oscars, yet alone a movie that comes out in 2 years?"
Well they did clap, and I felt like it was odd, although people clapped at the end of lord of the rings in my cinema, so not sure what sorta feaks live here, lol.
My mate listens to what people say as they leave the cinema, and SM3 seems to be drawing a lot more hype and excitement. Just watch![]()
To be fair, there has been no trailer for AWE. So awareness likely hasnt peaked yet. Its going to be an interesting year to watch. I personally think they should've just dropped the tough guy act and moved one to July where either Spider-Man or Pirates would roll over Transformers.
LOLt:
Honestly right now i am hoping something else wins just so the two sets won't have crowing rights![]()

I can't believe that people are even looking forward to POTC, seeing as DMC was such a let down.

Well SM3's marketing is blowing POTC's out of the water (no pun intended)...if POTC3 has had any marketing at all.
The trailer for "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" will make its worldwide debut during the "Dancing with the Stars" season premiere on March 19 and simultaneously on popular shows in 61 other countries.
It's big-screen/small-screen synergy, said Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Motion Picture Group, which will release "Pirates" in the United States on May 25.
"Broadcasters were anxious to get the trailer because they knew it would be supportive of driving viewership to their particular shows," he said, adding that unveiling the trailer during popular programs will allow it to reach "in excess of 200 million people."
