B/O Forecast: Pirates 3 Vs. Spider-Man 3

in retrospect, sadly Pirates will take it... ONE BILLION at the global box office, no spidey movie has come close to achieving that... Spidey will be the far better film but in terms of BO, more girls and families will flock to Pirates so it will categorically win...

on a domestic run, Spidey will be around 280 million tops... Pirates will get around 330 mill.

Ehh...Spider-Man 3 will definitely take it. This isn't "Superman Returns". This isn't a movie about an overrated superhero returning after over 20 years.

This is one of the biggest American franchises of the 21st century. Plus, the fact that all the trailers have kicked ass and POTC 3 hasn't shown anything. (Dancing With The Stars...psshh)

There wasn't really anything good going against POTC 2, thus giving it the chance to make a billion dollars. We've got two huge QUALITY franchises going against it in ONE month. I'm sorry to say...DMC is gonna be the only Pirates movie closest to ever beating Spider-Man 3.

I can't believe anyone that liked the first Pirates of the first Spider Man could view DMC as a let down.

When I saw the DMC trailer I thought it looked great (and going by the fact it broke Spidey's record, so did a lot of other people) but the movie itself was a complete bore. The CGI was fantastic, but that's about it. My friend rented the first POTC and I watched it begrudgingly, but we both ended up liking it. And while I didn't really like DMC, he actually feel asleep during it. (I think during one of the action scenes.)

So yeah, just because DMC has giant mutant Octopus doesn't mean it's better.

In a month it will be totally different.

Spiderman 3 is going for the long distance race, whereas Pirates 3 is going for the short sprint. There will be only one way to see which is most effective.

This is one of Pirates marketing strategies...

Fair enough, though I'm not sold on a marketing strategy with no teaser. But that's just one of the reason's I think Spider-Man will beat it at the box office.

SM3 has 2 weeks to itself while POTC3 is being released only a week after Shrek 3 comes out. Also, POTC3 is less than a year away from the last Pirates, and that didn't go so well with the Matrix series.

Reason, after Spiderman 3 comes it it has one week alone, and then Sherk 3 comes out followed by Pirate, pretty suffocating after that week

I think you misread it

The trailer for "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" will make its worldwide debut during the "Dancing with the Stars" season premiere on March 19 and simultaneously on popular shows in 61 other countries.

Thats what makes the 200 million people

Spider-Man's been around for a long time, and it's been seen by countless Americans.

"Pirates" is NOT bigger than Spider-Man in America. Just a lot of people went to see Pirates because it peaked their interest and the first film was good...

Well that's a bit different. The LOTR series was meant to be a trilogy from the beginning, so everyone knew there would be 3 films. And all 3 of them, not just 2, came stimultamesly within a year of the last film.

Spider-man 3 win this year.

There's a lot of mystery surrounding Pirates 3 (aside from the fans who know everything about it). As posters have mentioned, there hasn't even been a teaser/trailer for it yet.

I know Spider-man 3 has gotten a lot of exposure, but it's going to help. You have to remember that there's been around a 3-year gap bewteen Spidey 2 and 3. Sony is trying to keep Spidey in everyone's minds up until the release, and it's working. The film has so much buzz, and everyone's so excited to get a glimpse of Venom. I went to see 300 last night and when the new Spidey trailer started, there were a few "OH YEAH"s shouted out. But once the trailer was over, the whole audience of the sold-out showing was applauding and cheering.

Also, Spider-man 2 was a better sequel than Pirates 2 in many people's eyes. While Pirates has a ton of fans and the film was a smash hit, Spidey 2 was one of the best reviewed films of its year and was a step up from the original film of the series. Whereas as Pirates 2 received mediocre reviews (and some pretty bad ones), and I know that some people were turned off after seeing the film (like myself).

I just think that Spidey has the edge the year and I'm pulling for it to win.

Actually it was in past. Now such dark summer blockbusters as ROTS and LOTR take everything.

ROTS is Star Wars. It would have made money regardless. And LOTR wasn't really a kids movie. Movies like Spider-Man 3 need the kid audience. Even if fanboys don't want to admit it.

Yet that still didn't help it any more in the boxoffice, it took a considerable drop in the box office from the first Spidey. Whilst Pirates 2 had mediocre reviews yet made alot more than the first Pirates. So don't bring critics into this, they really mean nothing to the general audience.

exactly.. pirates was carrying the ferver of the opening WITHOUT a promotion you cant tell me ppl are gettin more excited now(people that dont have the time nor resources to do the research we do) about pirates now then they were in the beginning of the year ..if anything they probably FORGOT it was comn oout this year.. i talk to alot of people at work and at home.. and all of them watch tv.... and all saw those special on the news of this years "blockbusters" and all heard that pirates is due this year and were waiting for it after the second movie... but NOW today yesterday and tomorrow.. i talk and am like man im a be in the theatre all summer.. and now folx are like i know... i wana see transformers... spidey and to a lesser extent TMNT... then i say yeah pirates 3 too..and they are like OH YEAH i forgot.... and now that 300 has come out.. NOONE is talkin about much besides that.. in fact i doubt spidey and defintly not pirates will come close to being that great a movie... only thing that keep people talkin about spidey and this is the killer... it showed the birth of venom BEFORE 300.. very smart move... and though i got out of a great movie and have many intentions of seeing it over and over again and am fully convinced i just witnessed the BEST movie of the year(which in turn lowers my interests in any other movie)... i still came out with the vision of venom.. so compared to when i first heard about POTC3 coming out to now.. yeah interest is at an ALL TIME LOW.. now it WILL defintly change once promotion starts... but man you gotta get to people NOW... its 92 degrees in california.. the sun is stayin out an hour later already... in many peopleseyes its summer NOW....and the only thing i can look forward to right now the only thing left in my mind besides how beautiful 300 is ..is seeing venom kick spideys arse...
